THE RECOVERING OF INTIMACY IN REDEMPTION! (I John 1:5-10) Brothers and Sisters of my flock, God’s Grace to You!

T

oday marks a very special day in my Christian pilgrimage. On this day, May 6, 1956, I was Spirit-Baptized into the Family of God, at a revival meeting in Victorville, California, during my Air Force career. That Sunday is still fresh in my mind. At the age of twenty, I said ‘YES!’ to God and He transformed my life.

From that day forward, it has been an exciting pilgrimage with the Lord for me. I have learned more about Him and His desire for my life and for my growth in His Grace.

Moreover, I refuse to let the flame of my intimate relationship with Him dwindle. God says: “If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” (I John 1:6NKJV) Christians were created for an intimate relationship with God and one another. Few words are as misused and misunderstood as intimacy. It implies so much more than just romance or sex. An intimate relationship is one which is distinguished by close association, contact, and familiarity of personal interest. Intimacy implies an intrinsic encounter, the essential nature and inner being of two persons.

I have spent my whole life with people in the Christian Church. Most of the people who are dead-locked in problems have not discovered that our Lord Christ is able to take any problem we will entrust to Him and transform it into a potential. We say we have fellowship with God, but all the crucial commitments and concerns of our lives have never been surrendered to Him. Honesty with God means constantly inviting Him to take charge of all our relationships and responsibilities. If our family, sex life, career, money, self-image, hopes and dreams have never been opened to Him sincerely, our Christianity and churchmanship are an eloquent lie.

That’s the reason for the lack of intimacy in so many Christians in the church today with dull lives and dying relationships. I encourage you to break the chain in your family and churchmanship. Start by allowing God’s light to infiltrate your memories, hidden thoughts, and secret desires.

The darkness of your soul needs the exposing light of the Spirit’s judgment, healing, and rededications. Walking in the light begins in our intricate heart. Ask the Lord Jesus Christ to restore your intimacy with Him and those in your life whom you care about and love.
