Sons and Daughters of My Parish Flock,

A

biblical father’s sin of greed is a reminder to us that we must trust and obey God’s directions and not charge for God’s gift to us.

Therefore, it is biblically accurate when “Blending Ancient African History with Biblical History,” concerns me a great deal that modern Americans of African descent who are members of the Christian family are not aware of the quantitative and superlative quality of contributions made by biblical characters who were “Black Peoples” and ‘Americans’ of African Descent fore parents. From the dawn of human biblical history, throughout the total development of Theology and Christology, we see the presence of people created from the earth by God, and they resemble the earth from whence they were created. The word earth is Eaetz in Greek, meaning ground. When Jesus says, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32); the truth is the truth of factual knowledge of people of color in the Holy Bible and their connection to the development of the Christian Faith. Black People’s knowledge of the truth and positive stance will service to increase their self-image, self-worth, and self-esteem of present day “People of Color” and to dispel the myth of being cursed “Black” in skin pigmentation. Pay attention to the fact that this case, dealing with the sins of a man which also fell on his offspring’s will easily be seen forever. It was a curse that the skin would be as “white as snow” forever on Gehazi’s descendants changing their pigmentation forever. Just think, one sin of stealing from the “Healing Blessings of God” on a man named “Naaman” (Genesis 5:20-27; Leviticus 13:1-59). Gehazi was a Black man, a descendant of Noah through his son HAM; through Canaan; and through Sidon of the Tribe of the Phoenicians through Ar’vad of the Arva’dites (Genesis 10:6 -18). Gehazi’s plight (judgment) is full of interest, weighty, and worth students’ investigation to ascertain why you have not heard much about this Bible message. The next time you are overcome with a spirit of greed, let this Bible drama of this “Black Man” come into your mind of how dangerous it is to try to take payment for God’s healing blessings. Amen. Until He Comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully

Born Twice, Die Once “The Reverend Al Green”

H

is first birth was April 13, 1946, born in Dansby, Arkansas as Albert Green. Al Green started singing at a young age, performing

gospel music with his family as part of the Green Brothers.

He was forbidden to listen to secular music, but after getting caught listening to Jackie Wilson, he had to leave the group. Green started his own group called the “Creations,” which later became Al Green and the Soul Mates. Green’s successful hit “Back Up Train” got the group an appearance at the famous Apollo Theater in 1970. In 1971, he went solo with a song he wrote “Let’s Stay Together.” All of this happened during his first birth. In 1973, Al Green had a second birth. He became a born-again Christian. Despite his revived faith, Mr. Green continued touring and releasing secular music as usual. However, he would deliver a sermon to his audience during performances. But Green’s lifestyle was not always represented by his second birth, “a born-again Christian,” because on October 18, 1974, a woman who had left her family to be with Mr. Green attacked him with a pan of hot grits. The woman committed suicide after leaving Reverend Green with third degree burns over half of his body. During his long recovery, Mr. Green devoted himself to his faith and purchased a church, the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Memphis, Tennessee and became the pastor. The album “Belle” in which Reverend Green self-produced was evident of his commitment to his faith and love for the Lord. He had been given a second chance and devoted himself to his church and the work of the Lord. After trying to serve two masters, Reverend Green has settled comfortably into his ministry. He is quoted as saying, “I am happy singing and serving the Lord.” Amen

A

t the end of Isaiah 49: 23b those who but their hope in

the Lord will not be disappointed.

The hope I continue to have is that Jesus is Lord! There are so many really bad things going on in the world today that if your faith is not in Jesus Christ where in the world is it? I’ve never seen a presidential campaign so non-presidential (on the Republican side) in all my days! I believe the point of all that is to bring to the forefront the prejudices that are still in the hearts of many people, even many Christians. But for those of us who truly want to do what’s right in the eyes of God will love them anyhow; the Lord can deal with them a lot better than we can. So let’s keep our eyes to the hills from which comes our help; our help comes from the Lord, the Lord who made heaven and earth. The Lord sees all and knows all, even what’s in the hearts of man. God bless you,

A Love Explosion “Mommy, if Jesus comes to live inside my heart, will I explode?” One of missionary Katie Davis’ adopted daughters surprised her with that question as they headed to the Nile River for some baptisms. Although Davis immediately replied, “No!” she later realized: “That is exactly what we should do if Jesus comes to live inside our hearts. We will explode with love, with compassion, with hurt for those who are hurting, and with joy for those who rejoice. We will explode with a desire to be more, to be better, to be close to the One who made us.” —adapted from Kisses From Katie

ollywood power couple DeVon Franklin and Meagan Good candidly share about their courtship and marriage, and the key to their success—waiting.

President/CEO of Franklin Entertainment and former Sony Pictures executive DeVon Franklin and award-winning actress Meagan Good have learned sometimes all we can do is wait for “the one” to come into our lives. They spent years crossing paths but it wasn’t until they were thrown together while working on the film Jumping the Broom that their storybook romance began. Faced with starting a new relationship and wanting to avoid potentially devastating relationship pitfalls, DeVon and Meagan chose to abstain from sex until they were married. In The Wait, DeVon and Meagan share the life-changing message that waiting—rather than rushing a relationship—can help you find the person you’re meant to be with. Filled with candid his-and-hers accounts of the most important moments of their relationship, and practical advice on how waiting for everything—from dating to sex—can transform relationships, allowing you to find a deep connection based on patience, trust, and faith.

n epic tale about holding on to who we are and what we love in a country that forces us to fight battles we would not have chosen for ourselves, Father Comes Home From The Wars is a devastatingly beautiful dramatic work filled with music, wit, and great lyricism. Winner of the 2015 Kennedy Prize for Drama, this explosively powerful play set throughout the Civil War from Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks reveals the burden of history and its effect on an individual’s ability to transform.

Awareness and management of blood pressure are two of our most important jobs as adults. Although many of us are aware of our blood pressure, the control rate in the U.S. is dismally poor. While you can't always control whether you get high blood pressure, there are healthy lifestyle habits you can develop to help prevent hypertension and reduce your risk of high blood pressure-related health problems in the future. High blood pressure, or hypertension as it is known, increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure. Approximately 30 percent of the American adult population – 65 million – has high blood pressure. Estimates are that 90 percent of all American adults are at risk for elevated blood pressure during their lifetime. According to the American Heart Association, more than 40 percent of non-Hispanic Blacks have high blood pressure. High blood pressure is called a “silent killer” because there are generally no advance symptoms, even when your blood pressure is high and uncontrolled. To avoid a hypertension diagnosis, make these healthy lifestyle choices: 1. Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight increases your risk for hypertension. Conquer small goals, such as limiting portion sizes and snacking on fruit and vegetables instead of junk food. 2. Eat heart healthfully. Follow an eating plan that emphasizes fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy products and is moderate in total fat and low in saturated fat and cholesterol. 3. Reduce salt and sodium intake. Read food labels to choose canned, processed and convenience foods that are lower in sodium. Limit sodium intake to no more than 2400mg. or about 1 teaspoon's worth, of salt each day. Avoid fast foods that are high in salt and sodium. 4. Become more physically active. Work up to at least 30 minutes of a moderatelevel activity, such as brisk walking or bicycling, each day. Moderate exercise for about 30 minutes three times a week is a good start. 5. If you drink alcoholic beverages, do so in moderation. For men, that means a maximum of 2 drinks a day, for women a maximum of 1. 6. Quit smoking. Smoking increases your risk of developing heart disease. 7. Monitor your blood pressure. Make sure that you have your blood pressure measured regularly, either at your doctor's office or at home. Only blood pressure readings will tell you if your blood pressure is on the rise. Talk with your health care professional. Ask what your blood pressure numbers are and what they mean.

A Better Resurrection I have no wit, I have no words, no tears; My heart within me like a stone Is numbed too much for hopes or fears; Look right, look left, I dwell alone; A lift mine eyes, but dimmed with grief No everlasting hills I see; My life is like the falling leaf; O Jesus, quicken me.
