January 3, 2016 THE BISHOP’S ANNUAL EPISTLE FOR 2016 THEME: ABSTAIN FROM EVERY FORM OF EVIL! BUT HOW? (Romans 12:1-2, 9, 21) Sons and Daughters of My Flock, Have a Joyful and Blessed New Year, 2016! God’s Grace to you! Just how are the Saints to abstain from every form of evil? In as much as we are still sinners saved by grace, but may I say that the secret of abstaining from every form of evil is taught in Romans 12:21, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” Praise the name of the Lord, because Saints are free to spontaneously overcome the negative by doing a specific good. How else can we consistently “abstain from every form of evil? The message in Romans 12:1, 2, speaks of the mercies of God, which have been described as our reasonable service. Our service should involve all of our rational powers. Evil, for most of us, is simply a distortion of the good. It is anything which, when done, separates us from fellowship with God through Jesus Christ our Lord, His parish church, other people, and ourselves. Satan is constantly trying to lead the Saints astray, or beguile us with treason of the right reason. Evil is fundamentally rebellion. It is using the gifts of God to run our own, or others’ lives. Repent today! The Ten Commandments have not gone out of style. Jesus’ Great Commandment to love is as irrevocable today as it was 1,985 years ago. We do not break these commandments; we break ourselves over them. What better description could there be for overcoming evil than what Jesus taught in (Matthew 5:44-45). Matthew 5: 44 is a new teaching found nowhere in the Old Testament. “But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you…” Let us obey God’s Law of love. Amen. Until He Comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully,

Bishop Dr. Wm. La Rue Dillard Parish Under-Shepherd
