hat a leader we have in Bishop Wm. LaRue Dillard. I just read the booklet he published, since surgery, “Miracle of Healed Bodies in This Life and The Next!” The book is a testimony of Bishop’s test of going through the major surgery of a heart transplant. Just think, we watched the whole process like a movie. The book takes us through the step by step process of Bishop on the path God had set forth for him. What an example to follow; the way to act and carry yourself in this type of situation. He breaks down the four types of divine healing and supports it all with scripture, just like he teaches us on any given Sunday. His miracle gift was a blessed one of which I am sure we were all glad to know existed especially for a deserving leader such as Bishop Wm. LaRue Dillard. God is good, all the time.

THE MISSING INGREDIENT IN MOST CHRISTIANS IS WISDOM!

epistle comes out of Solomon’s experience, and highlights our need today in our journey with the Lord. When Solomon ascended to the throne, succeeding his father, David, he asked for one gift from God---an understanding heart.
“Now, O Lord God, let Your promise to David my father be established, for You have made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?” (II Chronicles 1:9-10). And God blessed the young king with special wisdom then, and all through his life. He was able to make righteous decisions, build a kingdom, unravel knotty problems, and set a clear course because he was willing to depend on God for wisdom. The secret of Solomon’s wisdom is given in Proverbs 1:7. He says, pointedly, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Here fear means awe and wonder, dependence and praise. The first three chapters of Proverbs eloquently describe the wonderful gift of wisdom. The way to wisdom is found in Proverbs 3:5-7: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways
acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the lord and depart from evil.” In the New Testament, wisdom is sublimely focused in Jesus Christ. He is described as the incarnate wisdom of God; “Christ the power and wisdom of God” (I Corinthians 1:24). “But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us the wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—” (I Corinthians 1:30). The more we know Him, the more we will be able to find answers to our questions and resolutions of doubts. Added to that, it is the power of His indwelling Spirit in us. From within, He infuses the tissues of our brains with the gift of wisdom. We will be given profound insight and understanding previously impossible with our human capacities. With this wisdom will also come the patience to endure trials in the sure confidence that nothing can ultimately hurt us now or for eternity? Amen Until He Comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully

Blast From The Past By Mercedese Hervey
J
anuary 6 marks the day of Epiphany, the arrival of the three kings or wise men. The three kings were the Gentiles who “came from afar” to offer gifts to the Christ child. The meaning of the event is that Jesus came as Lord not only for Jews, but for Gentiles as well. Christ is the Savior of the world — the whole world. Three Kings Day — or Dia de los Reyes in Spanish — is celebrated in many places around the world on January 6. Last year in Phoenix alone, more than 25,000 Latinos and others celebrated Three Kings Day. During the festivities, there are parades with camels bearing the “kings,” toys are given to children, food is shared and folk dancers perform. Many women bake bread with a miniature plastic Jesus inside each loaf. The person who ends up with the figurine is obliged to host a party for others on February 2, Candlemas Day.

Footprints from the desert… Happy New Year! Before I say anything, let me say; WELCOME BACK BISHOP DILLARD!!!! The way the Lord works is magnificently awesome….
I
n Ephesians 2:10 it says that God created us new in Christ Jesus so we could do His good works. (Paraphrasing). When we think about the miracles we see in our lives and the lives of others, how can anyone not know there is a God? I know people that have many concepts of whom or what God is; or if there is a God? Those are the people we have to show God is real by the way we, as born again believers, live our lives. Not that we are perfect, but through His grace, we are forgiven. So there is no need for “New Year’s resolutions” just live each day as if the Lord is coming back (because His is), be kind to strangers, help someone when you can, love your enemies; What? YES, God will deal with their issues; I just need to treat them with love and respect. I know it seems like the Lord is asking us to do a lot; but it’s our dress rehearsal for the grand finale. Until we meet again,

Live Life Healthy
H
ere we stand, with 2014 behind us and 2015 before us!!! However it is just another day in your life. Remember, taking care of you health is a daily pursuit, so chose a healthy lifestyle daily.
There’s more to leading a healthy lifestyle than following an eating and exercise plan. Finding happiness in your everyday life can also make a positive impact on your overall health. According to a study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, happiness has a positive effect in lowering cortisol levels, the stress hormone that is related to health conditions like type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and autoimmune diseases. Some things to remember: Enjoy comfort foods, but try a lower-calorie version. Use lower-calorie ingredients or prepare meals differently. Learn more at Eat More Weigh Less, or check out healthy recipes from Million Hearts. Fruits and Veggies: keep it simple! Most fruits and veggies are low-calorie and will fill you up, but the way you prepare them can change that. Enjoy the natural sweetness of raw fruit. Learn more at How to Use Fruits and Veggies to Manage Your Weight. Eat smaller food portions. When eating out, save some of your meal and take it home to make another meal or split one meal between two people. At home, try putting only the amount you want to eat in a small bowl and don't go back for more. Drink water. Choose water instead of sugar-sweetened beverages. Give your water a little pizzazz by adding a wedge of lime or lemon. This may improve the taste, and you just might drink more water than you usually do. Learn more at Rethink Your Drink. Eat breakfast every day. When you don't eat breakfast, you are likely to make up for the calories you saved by eating more later on in the day. Maintain your physical activity routine. Regular physical activity is important part of life. Visit CDC's Physical Activity website for details. Get adequate sleep every night. Seventy million Americans are affected by sleeping loss and sleeping disorders. Sleeplessness can lead to accidents, injuries, depression, and an inability to handle work responsibilities.

Bishop Is Back! Bishop , Wm. La Rue Dillard, Ph.D.
T
here has never been a time when emotions were higher and the appearance of Bishop Dillard was more anticipated than at 10:45AM on Sunday, December 14, 2014. The pews were overflowing with visitors, worshippers, Reunion Choir members, The Dillard family, including his new baby grandson, Caleb. SBC parishioners, brightly dressed in red and black, came to welcome our beloved leader back onto the Second Baptist Church campus after his heart transplant surgery and remarkable recovery. When he walked into the sanctuary there were searing sounds of praise, tears of joy and prayerful greetings from all in attendance. During his gospel sermon, our beloved undershepherd spoke candidly about his faith and willingly shared his testimony, orally and in writing. He stood in the pulpit for the first time since September and preached about “A Christmas Gift – My Miracle in September”. He recalled the emotional journey of negative fear and positive faith he had be on from January 10, 2014 when he was diagnosed with a deteriorating heart, then placed on a transplant list on February 10th, and had a defibrillator inserted on July 11th. It wasn’t until Friday, September 5th at 8:30PM when the call came that his medical team had secured him a new heart. Bishop said he reflected on the Word of the Lord that reads “My presence will go with you and I will give you rest” [Exodus 33:14]. He put his full trust in God. Bishop Dillard’s energy after such an extensive surgery is a testament to his personal faith, God’s healing power, His miraculous grace and an answer to all of our prayers. WELCOME BACK, BISHOP!

Listen
C
hristian philosopher Paul Tillich said, “The first responsibility of love is to listen.” Yet in our fast-paced culture, truly listening to someone has become a lost art.
The intricate Chinese written character for the verb to listen offers wise insight about how to listen to people so they feel heard. The symbol is actually a combination of characters for ears, eyes and an open heart. Basically it reads, “I give you my ears, my eyes and my undivided attention.” What a great image of being fully engaged during the act of communication! James 1:19 offers two wise resolutions for the year ahead: Be “quick to listen” and “slow to speak” (NRSV). Practicing the skill of active listening is a muchneeded way to minister to other people, serving as Jesus’ “ears” in a hurting world.

SBC Teens In Progress (TIP) went on a retreat to the City of Alpine, CA from December 19th - 21st, 2014. The youth focused on the theme "Unlocking Your Inner Caleb". On this retreat I was able to experience the teens outside of a church setting. While it was cold outside, they kept me warm with their energy. We played games, watched a movie and even had a bit of a talent show. There were moments of transparency that were priceless. To sum it all up, we had a blast!! TIP Thanks all the wonderful people of Second Baptist who donated to sponsor spots for our trip. A special Thanks to Larry Hayes for safely transporting us to and from Alpine. I personally want to send a huge thank you to the TIP boosters and the coordinators of the great retreat. The first of many to follow. Be Blessed! Elder Jason Jenkins

would like to introduce you to gospel artist J. Moss. He was born James Moss and raised in Detroit Michigan. He is one of the most gifted young artists of this time. He comes from a long line of gospel pioneers. Including his father Bill Moss of the legendary Bill Moss & the Celestials and is also related to The Clark sisters. His music mostly caters to our younger saints. It is highly the most cutting edge contemporary gospel music of today. He has several albums that we love to listen to. The very best of J Moss, The J Moss Project, and V2: The Voice Returns, Just James, The Other Side, and his latest are titled grown folks Gospel. One of my favorite songs is titled God Happens!
