Independence Day Lessons for Church Life • Return to the basics — On July 4 we commemorate the origins of our country. In terms of faith, we also periodically need to hear again the foundational stories of Creation, the Israelites and, of course, Jesus. • Honor the gift of freedom — “For freedom Christ has set us free … do not submit again to a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1, ESV). We strive as citizens to preserve and live out our national freedom. Likewise, as citizens of God’s kingdom we live gladly in the freedom of salvation and share that gift with others. • Enjoy community — July 4 is known for picnics, parades and other community gatherings. Similarly, the church is nourished by coming together for worship, meals and other special events. • Be light in the darkness — As fireworks brighten the sky with light and color, the church is called to display the Gospel’s unique light in a dark world. Our word dynamite and the Greek word for power — as in, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you” (Acts 1:8) — share a root. Through God’s power in us, we share Jesus — dynamically! — with others. —Heidi Mann

Sunday, A Sacred Day for Christ Jesus! Sons and Daughters of Faith, Grace to You!
I
pray each Lord’s day that we will gather joyfully with the aim of pleasing God. When Christians gather on Sundays for holy worship in spirit and truth, we seek to honor and fulfill the prophecy given by our Lord Christ when He said: “The hour is coming, and now is, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:23-24).
It is vitally important for the people of God to set aside in thought, action, and deed to assemble for holy worship on Sundays. John, the beloved, called it the “Lord’s Day” in Revelation 1:10. There are those who think so little about attending church worship on Sundays and their actions mimic the Jews of the Bible. Nothing is said about the Sabbath. As a matter of fact, it is rejected by the church. Colossians 2:16 and 17 is a powerful statement: “Let no one judge you in food or drink, or regarding a festival, or new moon, or Sabbaths which are shadows of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.” These Jewish laws, such as keeping the Sabbath, were no longer in effect after the resurrection. Jesus’ words in Mark 2:28 say, “Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.” In the Holy Bible, Sunday is a sacred day for Christ Jesus.
The Bodily Resurrection of Jesus from the dead Sunday morning, I Corinthians 16:2-9. The Birth of the Church on Sunday, Acts 2:1-39. Our Respect of the First Christians who gathered on Sunday, Acts 20:7. The Reverence and Ordinance of the Lord’s Supper was administered on a Sunday evening, at Suppertime, Luke 22:1-22. The Tithes and Offerings were received from the Saints on Sundays, I Corinthians 16:1-4. Even John, the Beloved, was exiled to the Isle of Patmos on Sunday. Sunday is God’s Day-Keep it holy by faithfully worshiping Him! Sunday is sacred and the Saints desire a twofold fellowship: (1) fellowship with God, and (2) fellowship with Christians; Christians need both and they are found only in the church (Hebrews 10:25). We Christians are glad to attend the dedicated house of God for two reasons: (1) for the joy and happiness we receive, and (2) for the hope we receive from God’s Word. Luke says they were always in the temple; they enjoyed worshiping God and the church came next to their family’s togetherness. Amen! Until He Comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully, Bishop Wm. LaRue Dillard Parish Under-Shepherd

Why Black Americans Celebrate the 4th of July
F
or many Black Americans, the Fourth of July is a day to take off work, enjoy family, and see some spectacle fireworks, the annual main attraction. But for many, it is a time to reflect on the long road towards developing a freer state and a tolerant community. But what does it really mean for most members of Black Society? On July 5, 1852, Frederick Douglas gave a speech in Rochester, New York, titled, “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” He told his listeners that when the Declaration of Independence was signed, many Africans were still slaves. “Therefore, the Fourth of July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn. What to the American slave is your 4th of July? I answered: a day that reveals to him more than all other days in the years, the gross injustice and cruelty to which is a constant victim …” For many Black Americans, the past seven years have been disheartening because the country has been plagued with killings of unarmed Black men and a few women by policemen; mass killings of innocent Blacks in places of worship, and the burning down of historical Black churches in different parts of the United States. But Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do it” Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” God promised His children freedom. Reference: Blackthen.com

P
hilippians 4:6-7 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Lately, I have been a little disturbed by the way I believe my Lord has been handling my life. Don’t get me wrong! I’m not unhappy or discontent, but because I haven’t gotten an answer to one prayer in particular, I’ve been a little disturbed. Now He speaks to me (through my spirit) regularly and gives me instructions that I may or may not carry out (I want to be sure it’s Him). So I found out that when I am not doing the will of my Father, I start to feel disturbed in my spirit, which can and will affect other areas of my life. Now, when I am in His will, the world is a bed of roses and all things work together for the good for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose (Roman 8:28).
We recently had an 18 year old Preacher from Kentucky bring the message at my church, and when this powerful young fireball finished with his sermon (and whipping me spiritually), I was tired! In my prayer that night, the Lord led me to John 15:1-4 reads, “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away, and every branch that bears fruit He prunes that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.” I was reminded that I am nothing without Him, and all things are possible with Him. In response to this, my prayer was, “Please forgive me …” My joy is complete! (Again) Lol! Peggy LaBon Second’s Gazette

In The Mist of the Storm For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:8 The focus of this discussion will be on Steps 7,8,& 9. An individuals' problematic addictive behaviors causes problems for himself, his family members, friends, co workers, other and acquaintances. Steps 7, 8 & 9 considers the individuals that have been harmed , helps a person to deal with the harm that has resulted and make amends when possible, and asking God to remove the issues, problems, and concerns that have caused dependency. Alcoholics Anonymous Steps 7,8, & 9 HUMBLY ASKED HIM TO REMOVE OUR SHORT COMINGS. But He gives more grace. Therefore He says; '' God resists the proud, But gives grace to the Humble." James 4 : 6 MAKE A LIST IF ALL PERSONS WE HAD HARMED, AND BECAME WILLING TO MAKE AMENDS TO THEM ALL. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, the peaceful , gentle, and willing to yield full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy is Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. James 3: 17 MADE A DIRECT AMMENDS TO SUCH PEOPLE WHENEVER POSSIBLE ,EXCEPT WHEN TO DO SO WOULD INJURE THEM OR OTHERS. Blessed are the peace makers , for they shall be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9 Achieving and working through Steps 7,8, & 9 are acts of humility. According to Serenity , 1990. " Step 7 overlaps in emphasizing the significance of God's intervention in addressing our character defects . .Step 7 centers on the humility with which we should approach Him''. Step 8 causes recognition of the individuals that have been harmed and the willingness to make amends. Step 9 focuses on making amends to those who have been harmed when ever it is possible. The recognition that God's intervention is needed is essential for the success for all of the 12 Steps and in all aspects of our lives. Stephanie Porter , BS MS MFTI

With its ability to shoot water farther, faster, and drench your enemies more accurately than earlier squirt guns, it became the ultimate summer fun for kids when it was introduced in 1989. So who invented this summer classic? Lonnie G. Johnson, the same guy who helped develop the stealth bomber program and send missions into space as a NASA engineer.

T
his topic is about many different types of food poisoning. You can also see the topics E. Coli Infection and Toxoplasmosis During Pregnancy.
What is food poisoning? Food poisoning is an illness caused by eating foods that have harmful organisms in them. These harmful germs can include bacteria, parasites, and viruses. They are mostly found in raw meat, chicken, fish, and eggs, but they can spread to any type of food. They can also grow on food that is left out on counters or outdoors or is stored too long before you eat it. Sometimes food poisoning happens when people don't wash their hands before they touch food. Most of the time, food poisoning is mild and goes away after a few days. All you can do is wait for your body to get rid of the germ that is causing the illness. But some types of food poisoning may be more serious, and you may need to see a doctor. WHAT
ARE THE SYMPTOMS
?
The first symptom of food poisoning is usually diarrhea. You may also feel sick to your stomach, vomit, or have stomach cramps. Some food poisoning can cause a high fever and blood in your stool. How you feel when you have food poisoning mostly depends on how healthy you are and what germ is making you sick. If you vomit or have diarrhea a lot, you can get dehydrated. Dehydration means that your body has lost too much fluid. HOW
DO HARMFUL GERMS GET INTO FOOD
?
Germs can get into food when: Meat is processed. It is normal to find bacteria in the intestines of healthy animals that we use for food. Sometimes the bacteria get mixed up with the parts of those animals that we eat. The food is watered or washed. If the water used to irrigate or wash fresh fruits and vegetables has germs from animal manure or human sewage in it, those germs can get on the fruits and vegetables. The food is prepared. When someone who has germs on his or her hands touches the food, or if the food touches other food that has germs on it, the germs can spread. For example, if you use the same cutting board for chopping vegetables and preparing raw meat, germs from the raw meat can get on the vegetables . HOW WILL YOU KNOW IF YOU HAVE FOOD POISONING? Because most food poisoning is mild and goes away after a few days, most people don't go to the doctor. You can usually assume that you have food poisoning if other people who ate the same food also got sick. HOW
IS IT TREATED
?
In most cases, food poisoning goes away on its own in 2 to 3 days. All you need to do is rest and get plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration from diarrhea. Drink a cup of water or rehydration drink (such as Pedialyte) each time you have a large, loose stool. Soda and fruit juices have too much sugar and shouldn't be used to rehydrate. Antibiotics usually aren't used to treat food poisoning. Medicines that stop diarrhea (antidiarrheals) can be helpful, but they should not be given to infants or young children. You shouldn't take antidiarrheals if you have a high fever or have blood in the diarrhea, because they can make your illness worse. If you think you are severely dehydrated, you may need to go to the hospital. Second’s Gazette
