Bishop’s Epistle

October 23, 2016

SHIELD OF FAITH, AND HELMET OF SALVATION! (I Thessalonians 5:1-11) Sons and Daughters of My Flock, Grace to you! “But let us who of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation” (I Thessalonians 5:8). The Christian faith is under attack. It is a battle against truth and righteousness. We can’t survive in spiritual warfare without the shield of faith. A Roman soldier’s shield was made up of wood and linen braced with iron and covered with pitch, so he could hold it up and resist the fiery darts of the enemy. We Christians need a shield that can withstand fiery darts of the devil. These darts are doubt, disappointment and mistrust. The only protection is the shield of faith. The Holy Spirit gives us a fresh supply of vital, applicable faith each day. He knows how much we need it. The Bible says: “Blessed i the n whose God i the Lord, the people He has chosen as H own inheritance” (Psalm 33:12 NKJV). We are surrounded by people who are more convinced about what God can’t do than what He can and will do. Self-reliance leaves our hearts unprotected when crises hit. The Holy Spirit wants to give us the courage to ask - “What does the Lord want?” Then he provides the faith to trust that what He guides us to pray for will be done. I agree that so called gay rights cannot co-exist with biblical order and religious freedom. If they continue, churches’ and pastors’ tax exemptions will be taken away. Can you imagine the rough time churches will have trying to pay taxes? We also need the Helmet of Salvation. Today is a day of standing firm in biblical convictions, and we will triumph for God, and His Holy Word no matter what the population says. Amen. Until He Comes, I Am Serving Christ Joyfully, Bishop Dr. Wm. La Rue Dillard Parish under-shepherd
