Who's who in the South East Coast Quality Observatory

Who’s who in the South East Coast QO? Samantha Riley, Head of the Quality Observatory I became Head of the Quality Observatory in January 2009 having worked at the SHA for several years. I (try to) provide strong leadership to the team, ensuring that our work programme reflects the priorities within the local NHS and that high quality, analytical products are provided to our customers. I spend a lot of my time with clinicians in Trusts and PCTs to find out how the Quality Observatory can best support improvements in the quality and efficiency of care provided to patients. In addition, I have chaired the Data Quality Board for some years and am an active member of the Quality Information Committee (a sub group of the National Quality Board). I am really passionate about the utilisation of data and information to support improvements in patient care and am a self confessed 'information junkie'. I also have a passion for shoes which has earned me the nickname of Sam the Shoe.

Suzanne Gregg, PA to the Head of the Quality Observatory Hi I'm Suzanne and I help keep the members of the Quality Observatory team organised and act as Personal Assistant to Samantha Riley. I have to schedule meetings, find venues and make sure everyone knows where they are sitting each week. If you need a meeting with Sam—you’ll need to deal with me! I am also the designated present wrapper!

Katherine Cheema, Specialist Information Analyst I am the lead analyst for primary care (including supporting establishing GP consortia) , patient experience and long term conditions and also support the newborn part of the maternity and newborn pathway and the regional normalising birth programme. I am familiar with Excel, Access and have a good knowledge of VBA for Excel (albeit largely self taught!) as well as having a solid grounding in research methods and statistics; if you need a sample size calculated or a power calculation performed then I am the analyst for you!

Adam Cook, Specialist Information Analyst I provide support to the following QIPP workstreams – Maternity, Safe Care, Mental Health, & End of Life Care. I also support the Safer Smarter Nursing Metrics programme, and I have undertaken a lot of work around developing metrics for measuring Dementia which are now being used nationally. I support queries around SUS, data quality, coding and CDS definitions. I’m available to help with database creation and construction, the building of dashboards in Excel, and survey design. It is also rumoured that I have written the odd verse for Knowledge Matters and appeared in the QIPP Hop music video!

Simon Berry, Specialist Information Analyst I’ve worked for the SHA for 5 years, I’m currently providing analytical support to the Urgent / Emergency Care and Planned QIPP programmes and lead the Stroke clinical metrics development programme. I have undertaken a significant amount of work to support improvements in A&E performance (ask me about my AESOP tools) and more recently have undertaken work on behalf of the National Technology Adoption Centre to evidence the use of innovative technologies. If you need any help or advice around MS Excel, Access, database design, dashboard design or VBA I’m more than happy to help.
