A LETTER FROM YOUR

SECTA KEY CLUB PAST PRESIDENT

What is Key Club? Is it an organization that helps others or is it a family? To me, Key Club is both. Although I started Key Club later in my High School career than others, I wouldn’t give it up for the world. At first Southeast Career and Technical Academy’s Key Club was known as the party club with little community service participation. However, throughout my three years this club has grown immensely. The club’s growth has been due to the exceptional leadership of the past generations of the board, the current board, and our wonderful advisor, Mrs. Forrester. I cannot say how proud I am of the 2014-2015 SECTA Key Club board. I know that we have had our hard times. I know we have had our struggles. These hardships have brought us closer as a family. These struggles have given our members the best experiences that we could offer them. I know at times we have our differences and I know at times we bicker, but it is through these times that we show how strong we are. Remember- we are small but we are mighty. Size should never matter for a club. What should matter is the effort and service that this club puts forth! I cannot wait to celebrate this new term with you all. I know that I have to say goodbye at the end of this year, but please know that I am always with you. There will never be a time when I brush off the people that have made my senior year the best it can be. To the elects- never give up! Fight for what you believe is right, even if you have to go through an army. You are the leaders of this club! I hope that you all go above and beyond with your positions and strive for everything that you can. Never forget that Key Club is your family, never forget that we are an OHANA. Never!

PAST EVENTS

DANCE MARATHON

Dance Marathon: A miracle is something that people wish for every day. A miracle happens when people come together to help achieve a single goal. A recent miracle happened on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at University of Nevada, Las Vegas from twelve o’clock pm to eight o’clock pm. Southeast Career and Technical Academy’s Key Club attended the second annual Dance Marathon! A total of eight members attended; however, a donation of ninety dollars will be given in honor of Children’s Miracle Network. Children’s Miracle Network helps local youth to get treatments and they help the hospital raise funds for an amazing staff that cares for the children in need. SECTA Key Clubbers danced the night away with Division 28 South, Division 28 West, Division 28 North, and attendees from Bishop Gorman. Not only was there dancing, but there were fun games provided by LVL UP EXPO. A photo booth was offered to the attendees for documentation of everlasting memories. Additionally, attendees got to hear stories from patients that Children’s Miracle Network has helped. We became an Ohana to help an amazing cause that affects our local youth directly. Staying on our feet for eight hours is nothing compared to the journeys that these kids have faced.

K-KIDS written by: Megan Saltzman K -Kids is Key Club for younger children in elementary school, who are interested in helping out their community. Our Key Club members like to go in and help them learn and become a great part of their club. Members in this club are split to take care of different responsibilities. They work together as best as they can to finish the job. On this day K Kids was split in two groups. One group did recycling and the other group made posters for their movie night. Not only K Kids were split but Key Club was too. Half of us went out to help the kids gather all the recycle boxes in each classroom and take them outside to recycle them and then return the bins back to its classroom. The other half of us stayed in the library to help the kids make posters for their movie night. Our club always has a great time helping these kids out in any way that we can. The K Kids are really learning to be good people and are looking up to us. One of our members Austin always has a great time helping out. Two of the boys at K Kids stated that they wanted to be Treasurer just like Austin and start to be a more active member like he is. So some of our members have like fans or the k kids look up to them. Hopefully it will help the kids in life and take them to the right path.

PIe Day WRITTEN BY: Kelly Trigueros

Hello my name is Kelly and I am a proud Key Club member at SECTA. Recently, SECTA Key Club sold pies leading up to pie day (3-14-15) to help raise money for the Stroke Foundation. For this event I helped during the sales, and I helped spread the word around about pie day. There were many people that bought a slice of pie, and a lot of people who simply donated money. The amount of students that wanted to help and donate greatly exceeded my expectations. Some of the students came up to me and said, "I would like to donate to help the foundation." Seeing the support from others made my day.

Bubble Run  WRITTEN BY: NOEMI HERNANDEZ

On Saturday, March 7th, SECTA Key Club gave me a wonderful opportunity to volunteer at the Bubble Run! It was a lot of fun and I got to meet great people there as well. In addition to meeting new people, I also saw old buddies of mine that I had met through other events! It was great reuniting with them and I got a great chance to work in the bubble shop booth. I have never worked in the shop booths before and it was so much fun! The workers were nice and they kindly showed me how to work the cash register! The Bubble Run experience was amazing! Seeing people from all ages running for a cause and also enjoying themselves really warms up my heart in a very bubbly matter! I can't wait for the next event we plan.

DCON proved to be an excellent bonding time for the future board as well!

written by: Danika Manguiat

From March 13th to March 15th, SECTA Key Club had the very exciting honor of attending Cali-Nev-Ha’s 2014-2015 District Convention! After some initial bus troubles, 11 very tired but excited members boarded the bus and happily made their way to Anaheim, California alongside Ms. Gomel and Mr. Bakke, two SECTA teachers that graciously took the time out of their weekends to chaperone for us. When we arrived at the convention center, members were tired, confused, and lost! After a moment of confusion, we all managed to get our nametags and other goodies and finally make our way towards the seminars. Needless to say, I was very surprised to see how many eagers faces were there! Seeing all the Key Club members from other regions and divisions just served as a simple reminder of the impact that this organization can make. That night, we also heard the chilling story of a member whose life was completely changed after joining Key Club and experiencing its positivity. Seeing all the members who ran up to hug him after his story certainly brought tears to my eyes and reminded me how big everyone’s hearts are. That night, we attended the first general session and listened to Up To You perform. The second day was just as, if not more, hectic than the day before. Waking up at 6:30, we all got dressed and made our way down to the breakfast hall. Seeing everyone dressed in such formal attire was really refreshing to see, especially after seeing everyone in their spirit attire the day before. All the seminars that day were really interesting as well. From how to deal with deadlines and stress, to utilizing the different personalities within our club, the experience was truly refreshing. Instead of going to the ball that night, a handful of us walked back to the hotel and spent the night talking until the others came back. That morning, we attended the finally General Session and made our way back home to Las Vegas. It was a little sad to go back, but I’m hoping to be able to attend next year’s DCON as well! Hopefully, even more members can join us on such a delightful experience!

Written by: Terrie Truong From March 13th through March 15th, 2015, eleven of our members had attended CaliforniaNevada-Hawaii’s 69th District Convention, for most of us, for the first time. Although, we were rushing through the convention center to find our seminars before they began, it was a great opportunity to learn about leadership and service. Personally, my favorite seminar was the “BEE-lieve in Yourself” seminar. Some other Key Clubbers had gotten personal sharing their stories to remind us that we are not alone. One person had shared a very touching story about how Key Club had helped them feel like they belonged and kept them going. Cheyenne Browkaw and I were chosen as delegates to vote for this term’s District Board. The Caucus session lasted quite a long time for both Friday and Saturday but it was interesting and helped bring ideas and motivation to public speaking and speeches. We got to see people that deeply cared for Key Club. The general sessions were very exciting because we got to cheer with our region and get noted for all respectable things our district, divisions, and clubs have done throughout the term. I would like to go back next year to learn more and receive some awards!

SECTA SPLOTLIGHT MS. MONEY

Key Club would like to extend a special spotlight to not only Ms. Gomel and Mr. Bakke, who were kind enough to chaperone our DCON trip, but also to Ms. Money. On Friday, March 13th, when our 11 members and other members from our division were tired and waiting for our late bus to pick us up from Chaparral High School, Ms. Money took charge to make sure that her students’ morale were kept up. Not only did she take time out of her day to go to Chaparral to see us off, but she also helped to make sure members were comfortable and happy as we waited in for the bus inside the theater that she managed to arrange for us. SECTA Key Club would like to give a very large applause to the amazing Ms. Money, for taking charge, keeping a level head, and never letting her smile falter. Not only that, but she also arrived on Sunday to make sure everyone made it safely! So thank you so much, Ms. Money, DCON would not have been as successful if it wasn’t for you!

A WORD FROM YOUR EDITOR Hello Key Clubbers! As the 2014-2015 term came to an end, I found myself again as your Bulletin Editor for the 2015-2016 school year. Although, admittedly, I would have loved to attempt to move up, I realized that working as your Bulletin Editor, I feel a lot closer to you all. Seeing all your smiling faces in all the photos everyone sends me, believe it or not, really makes my day. It’s one thing to see the smiles that people put on in front of the camera, but it’s another thing to see everyone’s smiles when they’re not aware they’re having a photo taken. As the new term begins, I just hope that I am able to continue to show other Key Clubs just how amazing everyone at SECTA is. Just this year, we were able to receive awards for Most Improved club and even the Most Funds raised. Although our club may be small compared to others, know that all your hard work and dedication will always be acknowledged. “You must be prepared to always work without an applause.” Although we may not always receive rewards, know you are making a difference in the world, one event- one fundraiserat a time. This newsletter shows the little ripples you make on your journey, and I hope that I will be able to do an adequate job conveying that.
