On June 30th, 2015, Nicole and I  had the pleasure to volunteer with the Kiwanis Club of the Las Vegas Strip at their Kiwanis Fireworks Booth Fundraiser. This was Nicole’s first time volunteering but it was my second time. This time it was slightly different since we came earlier in the day and on the first day. We helped set up the booth by stapling all the tags on the tables, organizing the fireworks by price, and setting them up for display. Nicole and I moved the smaller fireworks display several times because we kept having to make room for the bigger fireworks but it was no big deal since they were so small. We met members from different clubs such as Clark, WCTA, and Centennial. It was really fun getting to know people from our sister division and working with them. We learned a lot of things from them and we developed work skills from the entire experience. We learned how to use a cash register, work with customers, and working efficiently. Fortunately, I made the first sale of the day, in which I sold about $37 worth of stuff to a family who was very patient with me.

On July 11th, Board members attended a Kiwanis DCM to learn and have a better relationship with the Kiwanis members. They are hard working and are always trying to make our community a better place. Board members listened to other Kiwanis clubs speak about what they have done for our community. One example would be that they opened up a house at Sunrise Hospital for children so that they can feel like they are not in a hospital. The house has places for them to eat just about everything that a regular house would have. We also watched a video about Key Leaders. It showed us what they did and what the camp was there for. So many kids were changed in so many positive ways. I would say that this DCM was an amazing experience for those who went and we all learned how to help our club and how to help our community in as many ways that we can.
