Bishops Demand Easter Holiday New Delhi: India s Catholic bishops have demanded that the government observes Sunday March 31 as the Easter holiday. The federal government earlier this week directed income tax department offices to open over both days of the Easter weekend, as March 31 is the deadline for tax returns for the past financial year to be filed. Returns filed after the closing date may attract a penalty. `Archbishop Albert D Souza, secretary general of the Catholic Bishops Conference, said the bishops expect the government to "do whatever possible to avoid hurting the religious sentiments of the community in India. He described Easter as "the most important and the central feast of the Christian religion" and added that income tax department may have "a specific reason to declare a working day on Easter, but the Christian community in India has more specific reason to request the government to defer the last day of filing

the returns." Federal governments in the past have rescheduled government examinations that fell on Good Friday and Easter Sunday. We hope that the same propriety will be shown in this case also, Archbishop D Souza said. Talking to ucanews.com, deputy secretary general Father Joseph Chinnayan pointed out that there is still more than a week left until Easter. We should wait for the government s response and not rush to a conclusion, he said.

Will The Sordid Scandals Ever End? Panaji: The child sex abuse scandals that have ravaged the Catholic Church were a series of sordid revelations of abuse committed by predator priests on minors mainly between the ages of 11 and 14. They exploded onto the scene in the early 1990s in Boston diocese in the United States and spread like wildfire from the United States to Ireland, from Europe to Australia, creating a global crisis for the Catholic Church. A major aggravating factor was the actions of Catholic bishops to keep these crimes secret and to reassign the accused elsewhere where they continued to have unsupervised contact with children. This allowed the abusers to continue their crimes. Many cases span several decades and only came to light years after the abuse occurred. It has been observed that the scandal is a ticking time bomb, waiting to explode in Asia, Africa and Latin America. This means that we have just seen only the tip of the iceberg. The Church did not initially have the expertise to understand the issues of pedophilia (sexual attraction to children) and ephebophilia (sexual attraction to adolescents) and relied upon doctors' recommendations.

Rs. Rs,

In the 1950s, Gerald Fitzgerald, the founder of a religious order that treats Roman Catholic priests who molest children, concluded, "[such] offenders were unlikely to change and should not be returned to ministry." Since ephebophilia, according to some authors, is a specifically gay phenomenon, various research projects over recent years have tried to estimate the number of Catholic priests who are gay. Figures come in at between 10 and 30 percent. At the lower and more realistic end of the scale, that is nothing surprising, merely mirroring what goes on in society. But at the higher end, does it indicate the priesthood is attracting more than its fair share of homosexuals? The Church hierarchy has usually put the Church s reputation above the safety of children. Activists say that several cardinals were implicated directly or indirectly in the scourge. Cardinals and bishops themselves have been directly involved in sex abuse. The most recent revelations indicate that the most senior Roman Catholic cleric in Britain, disgraced Scottish Cardinal Keith O'Brien had a secret sex life. The UK's Independent newspaper has revealed that Cardinal Bertone

purchased a US$23 million apartment block in Rome that houses Europe s biggest gay sauna. Cardinal Ivan Dias, an Indian and former prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, has a luxurious 12-room apartment there. Cardinal Dias, the report adds, considered conservative even by Vatican standards, believes that gays and lesbians can be cured of their unnatural tendencies through the sacrament of penance. Bishop Geoffrey Robinson coordinated the response of the Catholic Church in Australia to revelations of sexual abuse from 1994 to 2003 as cochairman of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference. His reflections on his experience are revealing and invaluable. There is no simple, one cause explanation for child abuse by priests and Religious. Child abuse in the community is most likely to occur when three factors come together: an unhealthy psychological state; unhealthy ideas concerning power and sex, and an unhealthy environment or community in which a person lives. Bishop Robinson believes that these three factors interact with each other to produce a murky world out of which abuse arises. Sexual abuse as an end result may occur in only some cases, but these three unhealthy elements have negative effects on all priests and need to be addressed. The Vatican has taken a number (Contd.. on p. 16)

He Is Risen Indeed!!!

D

o not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the cru cified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. (Matthew 28: 5-6) Many attempts have been made to debunk the resurrection of Jesus, from the very time of His rising from the dead. But the following irrefutable facts can be put forth in defense of His Resurrection 1. Jesus body was missing. If the Jews could have found it, they could have stilled the preaching of Jesus resurrection that filled Jerusalem. But they could not. 2. The body wasn t stolen. The Romans had no motive. The Jews had no motive. Ah-ha, you say, the disciples stole it. There is the matter of the Roman guards, and the disciples initial disbelief when the women brought them the news early that Easter morning. This brings me to my third point. 3. If the disciples had stolen the body, you wouldn t expect them to risk their lives. People don t die for what they know is not true. But the disciples put their lives on the line, and nearly all were eventually martyred for their faith. They certainly believed it. 4. The church mushroomed size in Jerusalem, the very place he was crucified. Followers of Jesus in the city of Jerusalem grew from a few dozen to thousands upon thousands soon after Jesus resurrection. They believed it was true. 5. Contemporary documents refer to the event. Thallus the Samaritan, Suetonius, Tacitus, Pliny contain references to Jesus. Jewish historian Josephus writes about Jesus crucifixion and resurrection. They knew something had happened.

Tomb, thou shalt not hold Him longer; Death is strong, but Life is stronger; Stronger than the dark, the light; Stronger than the wrong, the right... ~Phillips Brooks, An Easter Carol Jesus resurrection from the dead is actually more plausible than any other explanation. Christ s death and resurrection is the foundation of the Christian Faith. That s why we celebrate. This is the most joyous feast of the year. The church is now filled with the spirit of Jesus and with His Light. It is no longer silent as we join our songs of praise with the choirs in heaven. We are reminded of Christ s promise I will give you a joy which no one will take

by Fr. Anil Rego

Parish Priest Nativity of our Lord Church Kandivli(E) from you. (John 16:22). Easter is the beginning of our new life with Christ. Jesus resurrection means that death is not the end. That though my body may lie rotting in the ground, Jesus, whom the Father raised from the dead, gives me eternal life. Ultimately, we Christians believe, our bodies, too, will be raised from the dead. What do we Christians say in the face of death? There are many mysteries. But two things we know for sure. First, death is an enemy. But second, and more important, Jesus resurrection from the grave is God s proof to us that death is not the end. The empty tomb and Jesus Spirit within us testify that Easter morning is God s triumph over death. And ultimately, Jesus promised, God will raise from the dead all who believe in His Son. I am the resurrection and the life, Jesus said. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. And since Jesus is not dead,

people can encounter him today. You can know him through a personal relationship. I could point to several people who can testify what Jesus has done in their lives to bring them from the brink of disaster to peace and meaning and joy. People who have encountered Him at a retreat and or at a healing service and were able to battle the demons of their lives and conquer them with His help. He changes people for good. While some leaders reform, ONLY JESUS TRANSFORMS Christ s resurrection brings him into new life and promises the same for us. Not just eternal life, although that s part of it, but genuinely new life. Change is hard, as so many people tell me and as I know myself. Left to our own devices, we d probably just settle for an improved version of our present life.In the words of Floyd W. Tomkins, Let the resurrection joy lift us from loneliness and weakness and despair to strength and beauty and happiness. ~ For while religious leaders have come and gone, the fact remains: only One stepped forth from the tomb. Only One has risen from the dead. Only One has conquered death. Only One offers the promise of eternal life to those who follow him.

Alleluia! He is risen! 5

For A Better Life When asked what he wanted to be remembered for when his life was over, Leo Buscaglia replied, I want to be remembered as somebody who lived life fully and with passion. I ve been asked to write my epitaph and I have always thought that the perfect one for my tombstone would be, Here lies Leo who died living. Undoubtedly, being young is like riding on a carousel of emotions- problems, issues, insecurities et al. But this never deterred me from challenging life for as a Canossian student, in the 12 years I spent at my Alma Mater, I had learnt the all-important lesson that, to challenge is to live a fulfilling winning life. The Canossian pedagogy of education propounded by St. Magdalene of Canossa, foundress of the Institute (1808), helped me gain the insight that, there is no such thing as a life of smooth sailing, that I am actually doing myself a favour by taking on difficult challenges; for these will only strengthen me, that difficulties will inadvertently enable me to have a big heart and become a person of depth and substance. Unbounded love and self effacing humility, are the ingredients that form the alchemy of success of the Canossian education system. It is one that believes in empowering persons to live their beliefs, to have the ability to love and have compassion for all those who touch their lives; without having to worry about the material

gains and losses, to be able to create smiles amongst tears; and not get agitated about small setbacks; because life is meant for a bigger purpose than one s own existence!!! In a world where values are fast diminishing, the charisma of St. Magdalene continues to mould and shape the lives of countless young girls from all walks of life, like it did mine, through the hands of the Canossian Sisters, spread over the world in every continent. These religious women who are distinguished by their courage, faith and integrity stand out as a beacon of hope and light in a crumbling world. 45 years ago, the Sisters in Mahim welcomed me when I entered the portals of the school as an ebullient 4 year old. They not only accepted me and understood me as an individual; but also loved ne for who I was; and not for what I could be in the years to come. And guess what- it has been more than 75 glorious years that the Sisters here have been successfully combining, the twin qualities of head and heart, that go a long way in empowering persons, who live in an individualistic culture; especially like the present times. My school Canossa, helped me break through my limitations and real-

ize incredible growth. I was encouraged to express my fears and doubts, to confront reality, to challenge everything that lay ahead of me; with wisdom and strength. I was able to develop a strong sense of responsibility, one that has allowed me to stand up to the fiercest storms confidently proclaiming, I ll do it, just watch. At no point of time did my school; Canossa, ever encourage comparisons of any kind, not with other schools and certainly not between us students. We were motivated enough, to believe that we have to make a meaningful difference in the world, by being true to ourselves, to feel content with our

As a woman of a bright present; and an even brighter tomorrow, I combine dignity and courage. -=IJAH : Proclamation On The Resurrection Of Jesus

B

lessed Pope John Paul 11 , while on his knees at the tomb of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem made a profound statement . The Pope said : This is the most sacred place in the world . This empty grave is a silent testimony of the central event of human history. The Messiah has risen from the dead. This is the message to all humankind at Eastertide and for all the years to come. Rejoice ! Resurrexi , et adhuc tecum sum I have risen , I am still with you, for ever.( an ancient version of Psalm 138 (V.18b) , is sung at the start of the Easter Mass. This Easter all Christians will profess their faith to friends, neighbours and disbelievers. Everyone has an invitation to celebrate the Word of God incarnate having delivered us from the slavery of sin and death. Human life has received an indestructible and renewed power and value. When this perishable body puts on imperishability, and this mortal body puts on immort-ality , then the saying that is written will be fulfilled : Death has been swallowed up in victory. (1 Cor.15:54). Where, O death, is your victory ? Where, is your sting ? (1Cor.15:55) Topics of the Christian faith are deeply important .Subjects on the meaning of life, heaven and the hereafter have occupied the mind of humanity for millennia : at Easter , Christians are motivated to make a positive proclamation on the Resurrection of Jesus, which brings to the faith an Enlightenment that life does not end at the grave. The Risen Lord is an essential tenet of the faith. It is supported by Holy Scripture. A word of disclosure : There are many who do not believe in the Res-

8

urrection. Think of the unbelief of those who were in Jerusalem ; heard the news and did not believe. Mary of Magdala announced the news to the Lord s disciples , that He had risen and had appeared to her. The disciples could not accept the news. Then , there were two other disciples on a journey to Emmaus who recognized the Lord when he broke bread with them at a meal . They hurried to Jerusalem to make the announcement. But those they met were unbelieving . Later, Jesus stood before the eleven and reproached them for their unbelief, and not believing those who had seen him. Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand

- Melvyn Brown

and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe. Thomas answered him , My Lord and my God ! Jesus said to him, Have you believed because you have seen me ? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe. (Jn. 20:27-29). In this Year of Faith , Christian believers the world over will share the astonishing event of the Resurrection of Jesus with all humanity. Easter is the ultimate reward, even in the wake of scientific advances. The Christian faith is never fragile , rejecting hatred and the scourges of massevil. In commissioning the disciples, Jesus came and said to them. All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and made disciples of all nations , baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Mt.28:18-20). Resurrexi , et adhuc tecum sum !

Ambassadors For Jesus Founder Offers Mass For Pope Francis

On Saturday 16th March, 2013, the Marian Seva Sangh jointly with Shanti Academy organized the 25th (Silver Jubilee year) annual All Mumbai walking pilgrimage for Peace, from Cross Maidan, to Mount Mary, Bandra. Mr. Ignatius Almeida and Mr. Felix D Sa are the key persons who arranged this event. The walking pilgrimage is always held in March, close to St. Joseph s Feast since he is the Protector of the Universal Church. The highlight of this year s Peace March was the Diocesan Youth Center had involved several youth to organize and attend. Close to 25000 people from various parishes of Mumbai and even people of other faiths, assembled at Cross Maidan at 10:00 p.m. Before the Peace March, the Rosary and petitions for specific intentions were held at the Cross. Fr. Aniceto Pereira offered special prayers in this year of faith and prayed for our new Pope. Fr. Joe D Souza offered prayers and spoke of his appeal to the govt. for subsidies to Christians, for going to Holy Land Israel Since Cardinal Oswald Gracious was in Rome, Fr. Lawrence D Silva, presently in Karwar, flagged off the Peace March. He also was one of the organizers of the 1st walking pilgrimage held in 1988. There were 3 floats fully decorated with flowers and lights carrying Mother Mary s statue, Jesus carrying the Cross and St. Joseph, which led the procession. The Peace March commenced at 11:00 p.m. People young and old, some of them bare feet, few with kid in arms, walked the whole night for almost 7 hours till the next morning on Sunday. Spontaneous recitation of the Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Stations of the Cross, Reading from the Bible, Psalms, prayers and melodious hymns by various groups in different languages was the hallmark. The Ambulance and Police guaranteed our safety. There were mobile toilets sponsored by some individuals and Corporates. Water, cold drink, and biscuits were distributed at regular intervals by various social organizations. We rested at Salvation Church, Dadar. There were vehicles as standby for the people who were injured, ill or couldn t continue their walk. The March concluded with the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr. Lawrence at Mount Mary Church, at 5:30 a.m, where key chains were distributed to all, commemorating the Silver Jubilee year. Let us show our solidarity and commitment to this sacrificial event and hope many more join this Holy Walking Pilgrimage held every year during Lent. A joyful , fulfilling and enriching faith-experience, indeed ! Lorraine D Souza

BY A Correspondent Melvyn Brown, Founder of the Ambassadors For Jesus and Anglo-Indian Chronicler is an ex- Xaverian (Calcutta) having been with the Jesuits(as librarian) for over thirty years. He was unable at first to believe news reports on the sudden resignation of Pope Benedict XVI as most people around the world felt the same way .Despite the shock , Melvyn soon accepted the fact as having to do with God s will. Smarting from the void it might create, Brown looked forward to the Conclave and its decision. In this sea of disillusion , the hope to discover an oasis of spiritual and mundane strength could arrive only in the form of a new Pope. Who would it be ? From where would he come , if not from Europe. Melvyn Brown kept the faith even when the worst ideas came up at coffee-table conversations. Pope Benedict XVI once said, Man , created in the image of God, has an incomparable dignity . This was enough to realise the fast response to the world s concern. As we all know it took only two days to welcome the decision made by the Cardinals in Conclave. The elected Pope was Argentine Jorge Bergoglio, the first Pope from the Americas. He is called Francis, the 266th pontiff and also the first Jesuit to become Pope. This was indeed a specific blessing, according to Melvyn, (to be the first Jesuit to be Pope) . A Jesuit Pope may eventually decide on drastic changes to a past era of hard economic mis-management at the Vatican ; strong social and investment de-inrichment, amid concerns for human values, and the imbalance of present-day corruption and conflicts around the Catholic world, among others The soldiers for Christ (after their founder St.Francis Xavier), have a grand plan to prepare a strategy to weave into the Vatican s self-imposed vision of being a stronghold of the faith . Now, Rome will truly have something to say under many smiles and volumes of goodwill . But, of course, the name FRANCIS , has been officially taken by His Holiness after ST.FRANCIS OF ASSISI , the saint who desired a poor Church for the poor. On Sunday 17th March a Holy Mass was offered by Melvyn and his team for His Holiness Francis 1 at St.Mary s Church. The Thanksgiving Mass was announced : For Pope Francis I Who, in God s grace, the Wisdom of the Holy Spirit, and in the Trust of Lord Jesus will lead His flock of 1.2 million catholics across the world : sheltering in his arms the world of the weak and the wayward ; protecting the One True Faith in preserving the Word of God and in giving human life an indestructible and renewed value. Government Urged to Exempt Christians from 30th and 31st March Due to Easter Weekend The Catholic-Christian Secular Forum (CSF), India's apex activist community NGO, has urged the prime minister and finance minister of the country to declare at least Easter Sunday if not Holy Saturday preceding it as a sectional holiday. The CSF general secretary, Joseph Dias in a memorandum said, "Christendom's biggest feast falls on 31st March 2013 - a day that the Income Tax department is expected to work, as per a circular issued where the income tax department offices are expected to be open not just on Easter Sunday, but also on Holy Saturday, as the weekend is the deadline for filing tax returns for the last financial year. This has hurt the sentiments of the Christian community. Normally, one would not take exception to those Christians working in the Income Tax department, except for the fact that Easter is a culmination of over 40 days of prayer, fasting, abstinence on the most auspicious day of Easter with Holy Saturday preceding it. We have therefore urged that the government considers Easter (31st March 2013) as a holiday at least for the Christian government employees of the department, if deferring the last date for filing returns is not possible ". According to Joseph Dias, "Christian employees will find it difficult to fulfill their religious obligation and also are traditionally expected to be with their families and fellow-Christians observing the feast, which is celebrated the world over.

10

We join the Catholic bishops, who are of the opinion that the religious sentiments of the community need to be considered and hence have taken up the issue with the union government. Nowhere in the world is Easter a working day for Christians and hence the community has made this request ".

have not deteriorated much There was not much to deteriorate from in the first place. Assets help you be ahead of others. The guy with 6 cars is definitely superior to one who has only 3. How many cars does a man require? Pope Francis has shown the way. You need none You can travel by bus. My what a lovely outfit you have !! My son gave it to me. When I went to lift the price tag, he gave me a rap on the knuckles. Mom, in these glitzy malls you got to show class. You don t show that you are concerned about the price I read yesterday that a restaurant in Bangalore was serving gold plated dosas at something over Rs. 1000 / dosa. You create the differentiation by showing that you are no longer in the class that eats silver plated sweets you can eat gold plated dosas. The new pope has taken my name. Correctly he has informed the world that he is not Francis I. However, he has smashed the myth that you got to protect yourself by living in an artificial shell. You can define your individuality by one way in which there is no competition and the entire universe, the environment and ecology is open to you. The one way you should be unique is through SERVICE.

All people from different parishes, associations and cells helped during the procession. After the procession a solemn Mass in English was conducted in remembrance of the passion of Christ. Palm Sunday is also known as the Passion Sunday. The Palm Sunday is celebrated in two parts. In the first part of the service, we remember the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem acclaimed by all the people. The procession started from Bethany, the village of Lazarus, Martha and Mary, and ended in the Temple of Jerusalem. During the second part of the service in the church, the people read and reflect the passion and death of Jesus. Fr.Ivan D souza

Pope Francis

Castel Gandolfo :The meeting of a strictly private nature between Francis and Benedict XVI, began with "a beautiful embrace," said Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Holy See Press Office. Francis had left the Vatican shortly after 12 o'clock, by helicopter. After a flight of 20 minutes and a double salute over Castel Gandolfo's main square, he arrived at the Pontifical Villas, where he was greeted by Benedict XVI, wearing a white cassock, the bishop of Albano Msgr. Marcello Semeraro and the Director of the Villas, Saverio Petrillo. The Pope and the Pope emeritus then went to the chapel in the Apostolic Palace to pray. Benedict XVI wanted Francis to use the kneeler of honor, but the Pope wanted them to kneel down together on the same pew to pray. "We are brothers," he said. Francis brought the gift of a statue of Our Lady of humility. There was then the private face to face meeting, which lasted 40-45 minutes and lunch, along with the two secretaries, Msgr. Gaenswein and Msgr. Xuereb.

Mr. Anil Fernandes was unanimously elected as President of Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) for the term 2013-2015. The election for the new office bearers was held during the extra General Body Meeting held on Friday 22nd March at ICSK auditorium, Salmiya.

He has risen from the dead! Alleluia! Alleluia! The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David has triumphed! He has risen indeed Alleluia!!! O death, where is thy sting? (1Cor.15:55). O tomb, where is thy victory? When Jesus rose on the first Easter Sunday morning. in Jerusalem, it was by the Divine Power of the Holy Spirit, He achieved this threefold immortality. As a matter of fact He is alive and lives for evermore. Death could not subjugate him for ever as it had lost its entire power over Him. Jesus Christ more than any man who ever passed through this planet, is remembered. His Divine image is so familiar to our sight, His praise so common in our mouths that memories can never ever fade. And His influence is not merely the inspiration which men derive from a life nobly lived, that wants to make them imitate it. In the divine supernatural order He is himself the fountain of every grace we receive. He is that head whose body is the church. It begins with Him since his first birth out of death ( 1Cor 1:18) We derive our nature from Adam but our super nature from Jesus Christ. In the world there are 33 religions with their founders. In all these 33 religions men go in search of God. It is only in Christianity that God comes in search of man. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead is the corner stone of our Christian faith. Christ is not a prophet but He is the Son of the living God. Thus says Israel s king and his redeemer, Yahweh Sabaoth: I am the first and the last; there is no other God besides me. (Isa.44:6). Jesus Christ is the only founder who said: I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through Me. (Jn.14:6). No founder of any religion on this earth has ever made such a statement, Siddharth Gautam Buddha was searching for the truth, He was an atheist. Prophets, Saints and Great men died, but none of them ever returned from the dead. But Christ s resurrection was foretold which was fulfilled. Orders were given for the tomb to be

securely guarded. An angel from heaven appeared who rolled away the large stone from the entrance of the tomb. Mary Magdalena and her companions returned in all haste and told this incident to the eleven apostles. They too came and saw the linen cloth in which Jesus was wrapped was folded and kept on one side. The prophecy was fulfilled. The empty tomb in Jerusalem may be the strongest proof Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Two major theories have been advanced by unbelievers: someone stole Jesus body or the women and His apostles went to the wrong tomb. The Jews and the Romans had no motive to steal the dead body. Christ s apostles were too cowardly and would have had to overcome the Roman guards. The women were astonished to see the tomb empty had earlier watched

- Capt. Mervin John Lobo Jesus being laid away; they knew where the correct tomb was. Even if they had gone to the wrong tomb, the Sanhedrin could have produced the body from the right tomb to stop the resurrection stories. Jesus burial cloths were neatly folded inside, hardly the act of hurrying grave robbers. Angels said Jesus had risen from the dead. Changed lives are yet another proof of the resurrection. Anyone who understands human character knows people do not change that much without some major influence. That influence was seeing their Master, bodily risen from the dead. The living Christ appeared to them in the locked upper room, on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, and on the Mount of Olives. After seeing Jesus alive, Peter and the others left the locked room and preached the risen Lord Jesus Christ, unafraid of what would happen to them. They quit hiding because they knew finally the living truth. A large crowd of more than 500 eyewitnesses saw the risen Jesus Christ at the same time. The Apostle Paul records this event in 1 Corinthians 15:6. He states that most of these men and

... In the world there are 33 religions with their founders. In all these 33 religions men go in search of God. It is only in Christianity that God comes in search of man... women were still alive when he wrote this letter, about 55 A.D. Today, psychologists say it would be impossible for a large crowd of people to have had the same hallucination theory is further debunked because after the Ascension of Jesus into heaven, sighting of Him stopped. An isolated group may give up their lives for a cult leader, but Christian martyrs have died in many lands, for nearly 2,000 years, believing Jesus conquered death to give them eternal life. The impact of the resurrection of Jesus should not go unfelt in our lives as a historic event it has everlasting significance of the resurrection. We should ask ourselves Do our lives demonstrate that we serve a risen Lord and Savior? Do we possess the hope, peace and strength that the reality and power of His resurrection give us. Easter, the feast celebrating the Resurrection of Christ from the dead is the most profound and momentous change that has ever taken place. Easter takes the sting out of Death. Death is not the End. Easter offers forgiveness of sin. Those who have died believing are saved from their sins and we have a purpose and power for living the Christian life, and preaching the unique event. We learn to remain undeterred because of our Lord Jesus Christ has come out victorious over death and sin. Indeed, He rose as He said, Alleluia. Jesus Christ lives. He has triumphed over death, he has overcome sorrow, anguish and the power of darkness. Happy Easter to One and All

Will the sordid scandals ever end? (Contd.. from p. 3) of recent initiatives, including an unprecedented conference at the Gregorian University in Rome last year, which brought together victims, bishops from around the world and psychologists. In 2011, the Vatican also called on bishops' conferences around the world to come up with guidelines on how to deal with abuse, but not all countries have responded and there is concern that countless abuses remain hidden. Some critics of the Vatican s handling of the Church s sex abuse scandals have breathed a sigh of relief, and hope that a changing of the guard will mean a change in the handling of current and past sex crimes. But Vatican officials and Church leaders will never be the ones to bring an end to this crisis because they are part of the problem. It is up to courageous survivors and organizations and others around the world to continue to demand accountability and change, and for the rest of the world to listen. We re not in the least bit optimistic," said Sue Cox of the Britainbased Survivors Network Europe, herself a victim of a pedophile priest when she was 10-13 years of age. Barbara Dorris of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, or SNAP, in the United States said the

tide of revelations couldn t be turned back. Criminal cases are breaking all over, she said. The floodgates are opening. If the new Pope is not sufficiently committed to transparency and rooting out corruption and nepotism, it can be expected that fresh leaks of sensitive Vatican documents will occur, a mole within the Holy See told La Repubblica newspaper. Paolo Gabriele, Emeritus Pope Benedict s disgraced butler, was not the only person stealing and leaking confidential papers. He had the sympathy and support of around 20 others, including members of the Secretariat of State, the Vatican administration and L Osservatore Romano, its official newspaper. I hope that there will no longer be a need for moles to speak out, remarked one. Dubbed Vatileaks, it was intended to expose nepotism and intrigue at the heart of the Holy See and improve transparency. Can the new Pope bring a closure to the sex scandal in the Church? It would seem, despite our best hopes, not in the foreseeable future! Redemptorist Father Desmond de Souza formerly served as the executive secretary of the Office of Evangelization in the Federation of Asian Bishops Conference. He was closely associated with the Churches in Asia from 1980 to 2000. He is now based in Goa

Jesus gave me a wonderful birthday gift

Jesus gave me a wonderful birthday gift on March 21, 2013. The Loop Mobile Company, which kept harassing me since the last many months by deducting my money for their various schemes, which I had never activated, solved my problem and apologized for their mistake; and as a token of goodwill, gave me back the money they had been deducting. They also gave me an additional amount of Rs 222 talk time free. Also another testimony: On March 23, 2013, I was in need of money to pay my electricity bill and did not want to withdraw it from the ATM. But when I prayed to Jesus, from nowhere four notes of Rs 500 each appeared on the table. I ve been experiencing this kind of a miracle always whenever I m in need of money. Jesus said, Come to me, all those who are heavy burdened and filled with grief, and I will give you rest. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ today! You and your entire household will be saved.

Government Urged to Exempt Christians from 30th and 31st March Due to Easter Weekend

The Catholic-Christian Secular Forum (CSF), India's apex activist community NGO, has urged the prime minister and finance minister of the country to declare at least Easter Sunday if not Holy Saturday preceding it as a sectional holiday. We join the Catholic bishops, who are of the opinion that the religious sentiments of the community need to be considered and hence have taken up the issue with the union government. Nowhere in the world is Easter a working day for Christians and hence the community has made this request ". hen someone who wants to start a business seeks re sources such as money, space, technology, contacts etc it is called resource-based entrepreneurship. The majority follow resourcebased entrepreneurship because that is all that they have been exposed to. However, there are two distinct paths to entrepreneurship. One is resource-based and the other is passion-based. The starting point for passionbased entrepreneurship is passion. So the question arises, what is passion? In his book, Before You Quit Your Job, best-selling Robert Kiyosaki beautifully explains passion as a combination of two distinct emotions: Love and anger. That was a profound observation. It indicates that there are two internal drivers involved: one is positive and the other is negative. One is moving toward; and the other is moving away from. Secondly, passion is deeplyrooted in one s life-experiences; often early life experiences. Eg. Robert loved the benefits of entrepreneurship; but hated the school system and ended up creating The Rich Dad Company that is marketing the educational products designed to raise the money consciousness of mankind. Incidentally, you can have several passions. Happiness, joy and

even bliss come about as you successfully integrate some, more or even all of your passions into your life and living.

Use these insights to discern your passions as follows: l l l

What are you most positive internal drivers? What deeply angers you? How can you contribute to permanently solve the problem that angers you the most?

Author Roger Hamilton in Your Life Your Legacy writes: Your passions are what spark you. It is what makes you jump out of bed every morning. Do you find that you (and children) wake up earlier on your own on weekends and holidays? Well, it s might be a troubling sign that on weekdays you (and children) are not living your passions!

Power of forgiveness

Learning to keep cool at work Learning how to keep your cool at work is one of the most important general lessons you can take away from any job. Training yourself to keep calm in a stressful situation is not only something that you can apply to other jobs, but something to use in your personal life as well. However it's not always that easy. So, here are some tips for how to keep your cool at work. Let it go: now, this much easier said than done but it's one of the most important parts of learning how to keep your cool at work. You may feel like there's no escape, as you spend most of your time at work and that's why small things can seem fantastically irritating. Try to put them in perspective in the long-run. Write it down: This can really help you and may prove useful in the future as well. Every time, something (or someone) does something that annoys or upsets you, write it down. Often when you look back, you'll realise that perhaps you just

overreacted. Or, if the situation really does get too much for you to handle, you'll have a written log all ready to go it you decide to take the matter further. Talk about it: Don't keep it bottled up; it's important to talk to someone who is completely separate from your work life. You'll have a sympathetic ear to listen to your opinion, and they may even be able to offer an objective view on things that will have you thinking in a different way, too. If not, you'll be amazed at how much better you feel for letting all the frustration of the day out.

Sitting in the seat of silence, a realisation dawned one day. Fill the heart with gratitude. Never put anyone away from that heart. While I must do everything to protect myself and others, while I might put someone away from my home, from my office, even from my life, let me never put anyone out from my heart. Pain, fear, anger creates more pain, fear and anger. To dissolve them, you must let go of them and not to keep them. When I keep people who gave me pain and confusions in my heart, I let go of the pains. Only then,I am free. If you do this difficult task then there will be a feeling of goodness and self righteousness. Those people were unpleasant, isolated and lost. When you decide on forgiving people, it will always make you feel light, peaceful and very spiritual. It made me feel strong.

He did not fail to turn to our Municipal Corporator Mrs. Karen D Mello as a sure reference on the matter. Sr. Phyllis Fernandes conducted a Quiz on the Year of Faith keeping the audience alert and active as the groups worked hard as there were prizes to be won. A group decked in red with hearts all over, rocked the audience with their fusion dances which called for an Encore and they willingly did a repeat to a mighty applause. The DCCW is a group of women who come together to reach out to the needs of the poor. They work hard to collect funds and have happily succeeded to contribute a substantial amount for an eastern wing of a Home for the Aged at Zadpoli, Wada. Kudos to the lively group of women for organising an evening a reminder that Woman, deeply thoughtful and moral, as says [Ernest] Renan, alone can heal the sores of the present time; alone can take up anew the education of man, and bring back the taste for the beautiful and good.
