Pope Francis visits St. Peter s tomb

Vatican City: Pope Francis made an emotional visit to the tomb of St. Peter, the Church's first pontiff buried beneath St Peter's Basilica. By doing so, he became the first pontiff to visit the necropolis, where pagans and early Christians were buried, since extensive archaeological excavations were conducted at the ancient site decades ago, the Vatican said. The 45-minute 'visit of devotion to the tomb of St Peter' was private, the Vatican said, but it later released a video of it. The basilica was built over the location where early Christians would gather in secret, at a time of persecution in ancient Rome, to pray at an unmarked tomb believed to be that of Peter, the apostle Jesus chose to lead his church. During the tour of the necropolis conducted by its director and an Italian cardinal, the Pope 'climbed up a bit, got closer to the place where the tomb of St Peter lies, exactly under the central altar and the dome of the basilica', the Vatican said. Francis walked down the entire main street of the ancient city of the dead. The streets of the necropolis are similar to those of ancient Rome, only they are flanked by tombs instead of shops and apartments. The Vatican said Francis walked to the necropolis entrance from the hotel on the Vatican grounds where he lives, took the tour and later - after paying homage at the tombs of several popes in another underground level known as the grottoes, including Pius XII, Paul XVI and John Paul I - walked home. The underground excursion was a sharp departure from how popes in past years often spent the day after Easter, known in Italy as 'little Easter'. Those pontiffs would head to Castel Gandolfo, the Vatican palace in the Alban Hills, a short drive from Rome.

Bringing Back Catholicism To The Forefront Of The Global Stage Experts agree that Asia and chiefly China will play a key role in the Church's future. China will be the real testing ground of Pope Francis resolve to make the Christian message truly universal, writes Alberto Melloni, a renowned historian of the Second Vatican Council. China and Asia in general pose the problem of the poverty of the Church in a dramatic way, he writes. Christianity learned to be poor to preach the Gospel in the Celtic, Slav, Arab and African world... it will now have to walk that same path of poverty to learn the language and culture of men and worlds that cannot be far from God. Francsco Sisci, a long-time China expert for the Italian daily La Stampa, sums up the issue in these terms: In this century, will Catholicism be the religion of Europe and its former colonies, a sort of cultural identity brand of that region of the world, or will it be a truly global message? This hangs mostly on what the Vatican will do in Asia. To succeed in the East, the Church must distance itself of its tradition as the 'religion of the West', he says, especially as it is faced just like in Bergoglio's Latin America by the rise of Protestant groups and churches. In 1949, when Communists rose

to power in China, both Catholics and Protestants accounted for around 1 percent of the Chinese population, today estimates put evangelicals and other neo-protestant groups at around 10 percent of the population, while the Catholic share has remained stable. According to Manlio Graziano, professor of religious geopolitics at the University of Paris IV, China and Asia might hold the answer to the vocation crisis that has been hampering the Church for the past 50 years: If the Church could expand freely there and achieve the same recruitment rates it has in India, one of the highest in the world, some of its organizational problems would be solved. In 2011, Graziano notes, the priest to Catholic ratio in India was triple than in the US, even without taking into account the dozens of priests Indian dioceses 'export' to the rest of the world. Nevertheless, the Asian challenge won't be an easy one for Pope Francis. Benedict's overtures to China, starting with his 2007 letter, didn't bring much fruit, according Stefano Picciaredda, history professor at Foggia University in Italy. Now there is a risk is that the Catholic Church portfolio will fall to the bottom of the list of the new Chinese leadership. Alessandro Speciale

Pope Francis Stresses Importance Of Women In The Church Vatican City: Pope Francis emphasised the "fundamental" importance of women in the Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, saying they were the first witnesses of Christ and have a special role in spreading the faith. The pontiff's decision a week ago to include women in a traditional footwashing ritual drew ire from traditionalists, who see the custom as a re-enactment of Jesus washing the feet of his apostles and said it should therefore be limited to men. Francis, elected last month as the first non-European pope in 1,300 years, said women had always had a special mission in the Church as "first witnesses" of Christ's resurrection, and because they pass belief onto their children and grandchildren. "In the Church, and in the journey of faith, women have had and still have a special role in opening doors to the Lord," Francis told thousands of pilgrims at his weekly audience in S. Peter's Square. He said that in the Bible, women were not recorded as witnesses to Christ's resurrection because of the Jewish Law of the time that did not consider women or children to be reliable witnesses. "In the Gospels, however, women have a primary, fundamental role ... The evangelists simply narrate what happened: the women were the first witnesses. This tells us that God does not choose according to human criteria." It was the second time Francis had spoken of women's role as witnesses to the resurrection of Christ, a subject of bedrock importance to the Catholic faith. His Easter Vigil address on Saturday reached out to women and urged believers not to fear change. "This is very encouraging," said Marinella Perroni, a theologian and leading member of the Association of Italian Women Theologians, which promotes female experts on religion and their visibility in the Church. "Pope Francis is taking up, with a stronger emphasis, the teaching of pre-

4

vious popes about the role of women in the foundation of faith and the resurrection of Jesus," Perroni told Reuters. "The fact that the Pope acknowledges that the progressive removal of female figures from the tradition of the resurrection...is due to human judgments, distant from those of God...introduces a decidedly new element compared to the previous papacy." Supporters of liberal reform of the Church have called on the institution to give a greater voice to women and recognise their importance to the largest religious denomination in the world. Some groups call for women to be ordained as priests, which the Vatican says is wrong as Jesus Christ willingly chose only men as his apostles. Advocates of a female priesthood reject this position, saying Jesus was merely conforming to the customs of his times. The election of Francis, an Argentinean, last month came in the wake of another break with tradition when predecessor Pope Benedict became one of the few pontiffs in history to resign. His 76-year old successor has set a new tone for the papacy, earning a reputation for simplicity by shunning some ornate items of traditional dress, using informal language in his addresses, and so far choosing to live in a simple residence rather than the regal papal apartments. Sources inside the Vatican have said Francis could reform the Vatican's bureaucracy and restructure or even close down the Vatican's bank following a series of scandals at the heart of the Holy See that damaged the Church's reputation.

CNI to focus on development of tribal Christians in Gujarat

Surat: With increase in their number in Gujarat, Church of North India (CNI) would focus on the welfare and development of tribal Christians in the state. "We want to give a whole new identity to the tribal region in south Gujarat. Now since our strength has increased with the merger of 210 churches in the region, we want to focus on the holistic development of the region and its people," said Reverend Silvans S Christian, Bishop of Gujarat Diocese. Tens of thousands of Christian community members from across the state and neighboring Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh took part in the program held recently. The program was jointly organized by CNIÂ’s Gujarat Diocese and the Friends Missionary Prayer Band (FMPB). Vyarataluka was the first village in south Gujarat that had witnessed communal tension in 1996, two years before attacks on Christians in 1998. It was a big day for the Protestant Christians in Gujarat. Around 210 churches constructed by the FMPB in south Gujarat since 2004, including Dediapada, Ahwa, Dang, Netrang, Uchhal, Dharampur, Vyara etc. were merged into CNI's Gujarat Diocese in the presence of the community leaders. The tribal-dominated areas in south Gujarat, including Dang, Tapi and Surat, have come a long way after the communal unrest against Christians in 1998. They are setting up youth development centers to empower youth, taking up health care activities and also developing animal husbandry. Union minister of state for highway Tushar Chaudhary, who was chief guest at the function, said, "the missionaries of FMPB have really worked hard to protect the rights of the tribal Christians. It is due to their efforts that the Christians have got a new identity in these areas after the heinous attacks in 1998."

Kerala Church does not see greater role for women

Kochi: With Pope Francis stressing on the importance of women in the Church, he clergy in Kerala does not see any radical change in the sacramental roles in the near future. "Though the new Pope is quite daring in his approach and has urged believers not to fear change, not many expect him to take such a bold step soon. This message does not mean that the church is going to have women priests and bishops," said Fr. Paul Thelakat, spokesperson of the Syro-Malabar Church. He feels there would not be any drastic change soon in church affairs. Though the Church in the state considers it as a significant change from what his predecessor Benedict XVI stood for, no claim is made on the possibility of women assuming a greater role as heads of parishes or dioceses. The conventional theory floated by the Catholic Church on why woman cannot be priests is that, Jesus Christ had only women as his apostles. Though Anglican and Protestant churches have long ago accepted women into sacramental positions, a change in policy is not seen likely in the coming years for the Catholic Church. "There would be stiff opposition from the traditionalists within the Church. They are not at all pleased by the Pope's unprecedented move of washing and kissing the feet of two girls during the Holy Week ceremonies," the priest said. Fr George Madathiparambil, former vicar general of the Canada diocese of the Syro-Malabar Church, also feels that, unlike what the liberalists call for, the pope's message would not bring in a revolutionary change to the church. "There might be an increased presence of women in church's administrative sections, like in the US, where many churches have women in charge of liturgical coordination, choirs and service activities. Other than that, there might not be any change to the Church's old norms," he said.

Goa Basilica to invite Pope

Panaji: The officials of Basilica of Bom Jesus in Goa are planning to invite Pope Francis for the 2014 exposition of pioneering Jesuit St. Francis Xavier. The chances of the first Jesuit pontiff arriving in the beach tourism oriented state are "healthy,” said Fr. Savio Barretto, rector of the Basilica of Bom Jesus, wehre the mortal remains of the saint are kept. He said that Basilica officials have received many enquiries about inviting pope to the event. “We will be calling him (pope) and request the central government to formally make a request to the Vatican city also,” he said. During the event the relics of the saint, kept in a silver casket elevated inside the Basilica, are exposed or being brought to ground level. The exposition generally happens every ten years and the last was held in 2004 December for about one month. The next is due in November 2014. "The chances of Pope Francis coming for the exposition look good because he may not even need an invitation to visit the resting place of his fellow Jesuit brother," the priest said. St. Francis Xavier, who hailed from Navarra in the Basque region of Spain, heralded Christianity in several part of Asia, after he arrived in Goa, the then Portuguese capital in 1542. After his death in 1552 in Shangchuan, China, his body was first ferried to Malacca in Malaysia, and later stored in 1553 in the grand Basilica of Bom Jesus. Believers regard it as a miracle that the body has survived for nearly 500 years, while skeptics have historically argued that the mortal remains of the saint have been embalmed to ensure its survival. Every year, more than a million believers throng the church complex in Old Goa, located a short distance from here. Catholics account for nearly 25 percent of the state's population of 1.4 million.

Pope's Sister Wanted Cardinal Scherer To Win The Election

Argentina: Though there aren t yet hard numbers to back it up, it s a good bet that the single most interviewed human being on the planet since March 13, 2013, has been a simple 64-yearold housewife in the Argentine city of Ituzaing?, about an hour outside Buenos Aires. The woman is Maria Elena Bergoglio, and her older brother Jorge today is known to the world as Pope Francis. They re the last surviving siblings of five children, and since the moment Francis stepped out onto the balcony overlooking St. Peter s Square, Maria Elena become the goto point of reference for insight on the new pope. Listening to her, she seems cut from the same cloth as her nowfamous sibling: Humble and unpretentious, and also completely unafraid to speak her mind. For instance, when stories began to make the rounds about Francis having become a priest only because a young love rejected his marriage proposal, Maria Elena was there to bat it down. She insisted that her brother was only a kid at the time, and the idea

6

of getting married was never serious. More ominously, when critics suggested that her brother had been complicit in Argentina s military junta, Maria Elena testily pointed out that her family emigrated from Italy because their father was opposed to fascism the clear suggestion being that Jorge Mario Bergoglio would never betray his father s memory by cozying up to dictators. Over the last three weeks, Maria Elena s modest one-story home on an obscure street has become a sort of impromptu journalistic pilgrimage destination. She says that from the morning of March 14 all the way through Holy Week, her phone started ringing at 5 am and people started knocking on her door at 6, every day, until well after dark every night. One might think that by this stage Maria Elena is already talked out, but in an hour-long interview with NCR this morning, she managed to add several new points to the record: She confessed that heading into the conclave, she was actually cheering for another candidate to be the first Latin American pope: Cardinal

Odilo Pedro Scherer of Brazil, whom she said she always admired because he seemed to be on the side of the poor. Why him and not her brother? Because I wanted him back! She acknowledged that before I asked, it had never occurred to her to call Monsignor Georg Ratzinger, the only other living sibling of a pope, but she said she d like to do it not so much to compare notes, but to express admiration for Benedict's courage as well as relief that it was Georg s brother, not hers, who had to follow John Paul II. She said that since he s become pope, her usually shy and reserved brother has seemed better able to express his feelings in public, which she attributes to the assistance of the Holy Spirit. For all those wondering if her brother is strong enough to really get control of the Vatican, she says he s plenty tough enough: Personally he s got a strong character, and he s also got a deep belief in his convictions that s unbreakable, she said. On other matters, Maria Elena discussed the two phone conversations she s had with her brother since he became pope, her hopes for him to visit to Argentina (and to give her two minutes for a hug), and outlined the kind of people she believes he ll bring into key positions. Finally, Maria Elena also revealed that her brother had a strong attachment both to a dog and a parakeet while he was in the seminary, but never felt he could take care of a pet because of the demands of his jobs. When told that there s a children s book supposedly written by a cat that once belonged to Benedict, and asked if perhaps the dog who went to seminary with Francis would publish his own book, she offered an answer summing up the amazement she still feels about the tsunami that s capsized her life: Listen, at this stage, nothing seems impossible.

Sai walked in to the dentist's office to make an appointment. "How much do you charge to pull out a tooth?" She asked. "It's Rs. 2000", was the prompt reply, "Rs. 2000!" gasped Sai, that's ridiculous! There must be a way for you to go cheaper." "Well," said the dentist thoughtfully, I suppose if we don't numb it, we could knock off Rs. 500." "Only Rs. 500?." countered Sai, "You've got to make it cheaper." "Well," said the dentist after a long pa7use, "I suppose if we take it out with a carpenter's tool kit we could knock it doen for Rs. 500 only". "Perfect", said Sai happily. " I would like to make an appointment for next Tuesday, for my husband Shakhar."

attended a special prayer organized for him in St. Mary s church in Ooty. In the meantime The five police investigation teams formed to solve the mysterious murder case of Fr K J Thomas (65) have not yet gained access to any clinching evidence, it is learnt. Still, they have enough reasons to believe that people known to the priest, perhaps involved with church administration, were behind the dastardly act. Fr. Thomas, who was the rector of St Peter s Pontifical Seminary at Bangalore, was found dead with multiple head injuries a hit on his head with a blunt weapon. The assailants had also hit on his forehead and then strangulated him by using the dhoti he was wearing, in the seminary on April 1. Bishop Amalraj hoped that those persons behind the death will be brought to book shortly.

A house owner was showing the house to a prospective tenant. It was raining outside, and hence the roof was leading. "Does the water always come through the roof like this?" asked the prospective tenant. "Oh no! Only when it rains", said the owner.

The Shroud Of Turin Is Awesome

By the year 1452, Margaret of Charney, the only survivor of the family, and the last legitimate owner of the Shroud, took the Relic to the court of Chambery where she gave it to Ann of Lusignan, wife of Louis, duke of Savoy. From that time the House of Savoy were the owners of the Holy Shroud. They would display it with papal approval. Then, on the night of 3 December 1532, the Holy Shroud escaped being destroyed by fire . In 1578 , Emmanuel Philbert of Savoy sent the Shroud to Turin, the capital of his states. It was safely stored in a silver casket in the Royal chapel adjoining the Cathedral. The Shroud bears

t is tempting to think of the Holy Shroud of Turin as Christianity s most neatly captured documentation on the divine truth of the Resurrection and eternal life in the Messiah the Lord Jesus. Recently, Pope Francis, on looking at the 14 foot-long strip of sepia cloth with the imprinted face and body, referred to it as the Holy Shroud. The Pontiff went on to say, the man of the Shroud invites us to contemplate Jesus of Nazareth. At the onset of his election, Blessed Pope John Paul 11 desired one special

- Melvyn Brown wish : to walk the Jesus path to preach as Jesus taught and to pray where Jesus was crucified and died. The Pope had his wish granted when he made his pilgrimage to the Holy Land. It was for him a journey with God. The journey became an astounding experience for the former Cardinal of Cracow on Septem-ber 1 , 1978 when a few weeks later he was elected Pope John Paul 11 , he venerated the Shroud of Turin. The Shroud with the face of Christ. It is self-evident from the Gospels that Jesus was a Jew. Faith in Jesus as Saviour of mankind and as the Messiah in the first Christian century, eclipsed his identity as a Jewish prophet. Christ is unique to Christians as the only Son of God. When the end approached and Jesus had to be crucified between two thieves, He made a powerful plea for forgiveness. Father forgive them, they know

8

not what they do. He begged divine pardon for all, including his own people, the Jews. Christ died on the Cross about three o clock on Friday afternoon. The Jewish Passover began at sunset. There was no time to wash, anoint and bury the body with final rites. The proper burial was postponed to the first working day which is called Easter Sunday. And so, the Body was wrapped in a long linen cloth about 14 feet X 4 feet, extending under the body from the feet to the head, then wrapped over the front of the body back down to the feet. This was the Shroud. It is known throughout the Christian world as The Shroud of Turin of Calvary. It s recorded history begins in France. On 20 June 1353, Geoffroy de Charny, Lord of Savoisie and Lirey, founded a collegiate church, and in this church he exposed for veneration the true Burial Sheet of Christ .

the imprints of Hia Body. In the year 120, St.Braulio of Seville wrote about the relic. In 670, Arculph, a French bishop said he was in Jerusalem when the Lord s Shroud was taken from a shrine and shown to the people. In the eigth century St. John damascene wrote about it. Many others in 1171 noted that the Shroud of Christ was kept in the chapel of Our Lady of Blachernes at Constantinople Even Robert de Clari one of the Chroniclers of the crusades wrote about it being exposed every Friday so all could see the image of the Saviour. There is a prayer, The Holy Face of Jesus , after the Holy Shroud of Turin, which is a power-ful means of communicating with almighty God through the image and Prayer of His Holy Face ( imprinted on the Shroud) to ask God s Will to be done. The SHROUD OF TURIN is awesome.

What Women expect from Wouldbe-husbands?

Se Seeed of G Good-f d-feear

All women dream of an ideal husband. Let us take a look at what a woman most expects from her would-be-husband. Respect: This the most important thing a woman expects from her would-be-husband. Women tend to have a lot of self-respect which if faltered by their partner would leave them crestfallen. Unconditional love: This is a cardinal principle and goes without saying. Mutual love for each other, irrespective of their faults and differences, and accepting her for what she is, makes her the happiest woman in the world. Trust: Trust stands as a fundamental equation for a marital life to said through years. Doubting or suspecting her unnecessarily can annoy a soman and would end up breaking marriage.

This seed I sow Lord, The seed of God-fear Let it sprout in my heart And grow day by day Aided by the warmth of my Zeal. Water of my dedication And manure of my love When the leaves appear When branches spread Let your benign eyes Oversee its growth

When the seed becomes a tree Let its roots spread Far and wide Within my heart Searching for the water Of my dedication When branches grow And the flowers bloom When the tree fills the horizon Let its every tiny branch Show forth the fruits —J. B. Moraes The wondrous fruits of God-fear

Thanksgiving

Understanding: They say women are the most complicated creatures to understand, but funnily enough men lack the conviction or technique of handling and understanding women.

Thanks to Holy Spirit, Sacred Heart of Jesus, Mother Mary and St. Jude for favours granted. —M. Fernandes, Malad April 15, 2013

What Is Truth? What is Truth? Pilot asked this of Jesus 2,000 years ago. It is a question that has been bogging Mankind since the birth of the Human Race. Truth is difficult to define. It is not a substance which can be measured and determined. It is an Experience. Here are my experiences with Truth. It is suffocating living in an environment where people Live a Lie. I have seen it in college, at work, in social settings and in committees. Those who Live a Lie have no desire to participate with their full body and soul. They are present but have no concern with what is going on. They ignore the lectures, the discussions, the decisions taken. They deny what is said. They have their supporters. Did I say that? they ask looking at those loyal to them. I don t remember comes the reply. They are vindicated. They have also mastered the technique of stalling and sabotage. Any move with which they are in disagreement they can kill with the power of BUT It is an excellent suggestion, but Then they wait for someone to complete the sentence. But it is too costly, but it will take too long, but there will be a lot of resistance, but the old timers will not agree, etc. The second way of living a lie is to have a Hidden Agenda . There are those who make believe that they are working selflessly, that they have only the common interest at heart, that there is nothing in it for them personally. The World of Scams has made us all wary of those who are unduly good to us, who promise returns far beyond what is normal, who present tantalizing pictures of tomorrow. They are powerful communicators and can convince you about the genuineness of their actions. Truth takes a long time to mature. It is often only on their death beds that people realize who their true friends were. The Bible teaches

"I am the truth"

For the Christian, the ultimate expression of truth is found in the Bible, in Jesus who said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life..." (John 14:6). Of course, most philosophers and skeptics will dismiss His claim, but for the Christian, He is the mainstay of hope, security, and guidance. Jesus, who walked on water, claimed to be divine, rose from the dead, and said that He was the truth and the originator of truth. If Jesus is wrong, then we should ignore Him. But, if He is right, then it is true that we should listen to Him.

"What is truth?"

is a very simple question. Of course, answering it isn't so simple. We can offer definitions like "Truth is that which conforms to reality, fact, or actuality." But this basic definition is not complete because its definition is open to interpretation and a wide variety of applications. What is reality? What is fact? What is actuality? How does perception effect truth? We could offer answers for each of these questions, but then we could again ask similar questions of those answers. I am reminded of the paradox of throwing a ball against a wall. It must get half way there, and then half way of the remaining distance, and then half of that distance, and so on. But, an infinite number of halves in this scenario never constitutes a whole. Therefore, it would seem that the ball would never reach the wall if we applied the conceptual truths of halves.

us how to determine who is genuine and who is fake. By their fruits you shall know them. In the physical, material world we have developed measures to determine the Truth. There are standards for length, pressure, temperature, weight, etc. which are universally accepted. These standards have been scaled up to light years and down to nano seconds, yet there is no ambiguity. Unfortunately in human behavior we have shied away from developing such standards. We believe what we want to believe. We listen to the celebrities and the media. We suffer from Information Overload and hence, have no time to determine what is right and what is wrong, to sift out the nuggets of Truth from the chaff, to check out information against the Templates of a Value System. The fruits we should look for are Time, Cost, Quality, Effort, Results and Benefits. A person takes long to do a job because she is thorough. She may also take long because she is lazy, not interested, let s things drag on hoping that the problem will vanish with time. Cost is the amount actually spent to get a job done. If you are doing it for a living you add a reasonable profit to the cost to determine the price. Those who live a lie take a profit even when there is no cost, even when they are paid by someone else to do the job, like the government. This is what is termed as Corruption Charging a Price for something you should get free, as a right. How does one show power and authority? By making you spend Time and Effort Nothing happens at the first call. You got to come again and again and again. Till you decide that it is better to spend a little as a TIP to get the job done. Those who Live the Lie know the Value of the benefits you are to get a (Contd.. on p. 14)

Fulfilling Sunday Mass Obligation

According to the law of the church, all Catholics, under pain of mortal sin, are expected to fulfil their Sunday obligation by attending mass on every Sunday. This has been an age-old practice observed scrupulously by most Catholics , until the arrival of Vatican II which came out with a few concessions, permitting the faithful to fulfil their Sunday obligation by hearing mass on Saturday evening. This concession was primarily meant for the working class who find it difficult to make it on Sundays, but however, not without a rider that the Saturday evening mass be celebrated after sunset to make it valid for the Sunday obligation. Ever since , many have made it a habit to attend the Saturday evening mass to enable them longer sleeping hours on Sundays. Today, masses are celebrated on Saturday evenings even before sunset, and there seems to be nothing wrong or sinful. There is however still some confusion whether masses for the dead on Saturday evenings are valid for fulfilling one’s Sunday obligation. There is considerable divided opinion on this, with some priests insisting that they are perfectly valid provided there are 2 readings of the following Sunday epistles. This is causing a lot of confusion in the minds of the faithful, and it is time that the church came out with an Official announcement in all churches. —A. F. Nazareth, Alto Porvorim.

The Good Samaritan

bus at Mahim. Two of them were lying injured on the road bleeding. And as it usually happens in such situations, nobody wants to come forward. But, there came a youngster who was barely into his teens, a 13-year old as the newspapers reported, hailed a cab and took the injured to the hospital. Come to think of it, what exemplary courage, coming from a youngster ! At this moment, the story of the good Samaritan from the Gospel, comes to mind, and I ask myself, where do I stand in this scenario ? Where do we stand ? Can we be a ‘Good Samaritan’ ? —Melville X. Punish Goonda MLAs

I feel actor Sanjay Dutt should be pardoned for the crime he has committed unknowingly. Why can’t our goonda MLAs and politicians be jailed too for misbehaving in public and beating public servants like traffic policeman ? Is it because they have power from top people, which poor Sanjay Dutt and Sachin Suryavanshi do not have? Will the Chief Minister answer my question? In my opinion, the British were a far better government when they ruled India. There were no crimes and corruption taking place then. —Jubel D’Cruz, Dombivili

Blessing of Houses

Soon after Easter catholic priests go house to house for house blessing. This has gone for centuries. Our priest have been doing this job very methodically or what adjective to use I do not know. But today our cities are converted into huge buildings and each building has around four to five stories too. Imagine a priest going up and down up and down up and down trying to finish each and every house/ My God can't someone do something about this ? Poor priests and those who accompany them. It is not easy task. The church should come out with something new. All catholic inmates of each building meet down somewhere and the priest pray over them and bless them instead of going to each and every flat. Mind you the flat is like a jail with doors closed

House Blessing

In Christianity, house blessing is an ancient tradition, that can be found in Protestantism, Orthodox Christianity, and Roman Catholicism. They are usually performed by a parish priest who sprinkles holy water as he walks through every room of the house, accompanied by the occupants of the house, whilst praying for the occupants. House blessings date back to the early days of Christianity, and in Catholicism, the ritual takes the form of a prayer. Consequently, Catholics often have their homes blessed at Epiphany, on January 6. This commemorates the visitation of the Magi to the child Jesus.

The movie kick starts with a scene depicting funeral ceremony of the Head of the family played brilliantly by Anupam Kher, the scene involves dark humour with sarcastic dialogues stretched with weird behavior portrayed by the family members, only to be revealed to the audience as Anupam Kher s dream sequence. More than that, the film s opening scene narrates the mind of Anupam Kher, being the middle aged husband, a Father of three,

When they reach the Plot for Bhoomi Pooja, for their astonishment, the land has been illegally acquired by a hefty Real Estate Shark named Khurana, played effortlessly by the enigmatic Boman Irani. Family Fights

Desperate, for avenging the injustice meted out to them, Khosla s Elder Son Bunty, decides to use muscle-power and hire s Haryana Pailwans to Reverse-encroach the property and thus acquire it. Although Khosla s succeed in driving Khurana s goons out of their property, the very act rebounds heavily on the family, as the Father KK Khosla ends up behind bars. Later, he gets released by Khurana himself, who viciously sets a deal with Khosla, to pay half the price of its Market value approximately fifteen Lakhs to buy the Land from him. This fumes the family, and Khosla s younger son Cherry gets into the act with the moral support from his Friend Meghna (Tara Sharma) and adamantly joins the fight. Cherry is adroit and calculative. Unlike his elder brother, Cherry meticulously plans and finds inventive means to solve the issue. He meets his Agent Asif Iqbal, played marvelously by Vinay Pathak who had earlier hinted him the possibilities of helping to sort the issue. As a former partner in crime with Khurrana, Asif Iqbal uses his mind games and trade techniques smoothly to tackle mighty Khurrana, in his own words saying Jaisa Bimari, waisa illaaj . His plan invites two more characters Sethi played by veteran actor Navin Nishol and his secretary played by Nithesh Pandey.

Together, they jammin to duplicitously challenge mighty Land Shark Khurrana, and give him a run for his money. The Khosla s with the help of friends go through several tense moments and hesitations, before emerging victorious in duping Khurrana. The film unleashes everyday struggles of urban middle class lives and dramatically draws curtains with a winning note.

Genuine Laughs

The film is filled with subtle humor, ingenious craftiness, poignant drama, social realism and natural human emotions. The film offers genuine laughs on many occasions, for instance when KK Khosla is seen carrying blue color plastic bag with Liquor in it shying away from the public, Ranvir Shorey s (Bunty) moves and facial expressions while having a drink with his father KK Khosla, Bunty s conversation with his younger brother Cherry after a minuscule quarrel after Cherry refuses to share the drink with his father and announces his US plans. However the most hilarious scene is the land exploration scene where few artiste from Meghna s (Tara Sharma) theatre falsely enact the role of villagers and a Actor disguising himself as a villager with a adopted name of Insaan singh, guides Khurrana and explains him the barren property, without having any prior knowledge about it. On the both the occasions, he spots a well at the corner, and asks Khurrana, whether he wanted to have a shower, which obviously frustrates Khurana and he rushes away from the place.

Awesome Performance

Going by the performance, each one of them plays their role to the best, with honesty and integrity. Never do the Actors overdo their roles and try to make audience laugh. Everyone plays their role with smoothness and spontaneity. Anupam Kher is a giant in the movie delivering one of his career best performances, Kher s role as a middle class family man is sketched with utmost perfection and finesse. Parvin Dabas as Khosla s younger son and an IT Engineer disposes a solid and dependable performance. Boman Irani as a treacherously cunning fox uses his mastery of skillful deceit with sublimity. Nithesh Pandey as Sethi s Secretary and Vinay Pathak as Agent/Fixer are impeccable, both add necessary depth to second half of the story with artful refinement. But it is Ranvir shorey, who steals the show with his timings, comic expressions and over-whining behavior. One cannot take away eyes from him in the entire Two and quarter hour duration of the movie. It s a shame that Bollywood has not been generous enough to provide further chances for this immensely gifted Actor.

Positive Reception

The movie was released at a time where Indian film industry was going through a transition period, In contrast to the audience, that mainstream Bollywood had catered for the previous decades had seen a drastic shift socially, culturally, economically. Although being a unconventional theme Khosla Ka Ghosla was a huge hit among urban Audience and won a cult status in the future. It went on to win the National Awards for the years Best Film category. The 2006 audience was more educated, urbanized, English speaking, tech savy, party-loving, culturally liberal, mobilized, Multiplexed and lot more matured than ever. The young working middle class of the 21st century India wanted to get rid of the mindlesssenseless-unreal stories from the likes of Karan Johar, David Dhawan, Ram Gopal Verma, Rohit shetty, Mahesh Bhat and many more embarrassing story tellers from Bollywood. Atleast, While watching Khosla Ka Ghosla One need not have to leave their brain at home.

Bible is The Answer (New York, NY) A new report released today finds Americans overwhelming (77%) believe morals and values are declining in the U.S. The most-cited cause for the decline? A lack of Bible reading. The findings are reported in American Bible Society's annual State of the Bible survey released today. The report details Americans' beliefs about the Bible, its role in society, its presence in U.S. homes and more. As in previous years, the survey found that the Bible remains a highly valued, influential force in America. But beliefs about the Bible and its role in society are becoming increasingly polarized particularly when the data is examined by age group. The research also uncovered a significant disconnect in belief versus behavior. While 66% of those surveyed agreed that the Bible contains everything a person needs to know to live a meaningful life, 58% say they do not personally want wisdom and advice from the Bible, and about the same amount (57%) read it fewer than five times per year.

Butter Chicken Method:

Butter Chicken is among the best known Indian foods all over the world. Its gravy can be made as hot or mild as you like, so it suits most palates. Also commonly known as Murg Makhani, Butter Chicken tastes great with black lentils, naans and a green salad. This is my recipe for Butter Chicken and it is the real deal! It has been tried and tested numerous times and is loved by my wife, Shirley D Cruz and daughter, Sweta D Cruz. I hope you will like it too.

Mix the chicken, lime juice, salt and red chilli powder in a large, nonmetallic bowl. Cover and allow to marinate for 1 hour. Heat a flat pan or griddle on medium heat and gently roast (stirring frequently) the cloves, peppercorns, cinnamon, bay leaves and almonds till they darken slightly. Cool and add the cardamom seeds. Now grind into a coarse powder in a clean, dry coffee grinder. Mix the yoghurt, above whole spice powder (from previous step), coriander, cumin and turmeric powders together and add them to the chicken. Allow to marinate for another hour. Heat the oil in a deep pan on medium heat. When hot, add the onions. Fry till it turns a pale golden brown in colour and then add the ginger and garlic pastes. Fry for a minute. Add only the chicken from the chicken-spice mix and fry till sealed (chicken will turn opaque and the flesh will go from pink to whitish in colour). Now add the tomato paste, chicken stock, kasuri methi and remaining part of the yogurt-spice mix to the chicken. Cook till the chicken is tender and the gravy is reduced to half its original volume. Melt the butter in another small pan and then pour it over the chicken. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Recipe:

Ingredients: 1 kg boneless chicken (skin removed) Juice of 1 lemon Salt to taste 1 tsp red chilli powder (adjust to suit your taste) 6 cloves 8-10 peppercorns 1-inch stick of cinnamon 3 bay leaves 8-10 almonds Seeds from 3-4 pods of cardamom 1 cup fresh yoghurt (must not be sour) 3 tbsps cooking oil 2 onions chopped 2 tsps garlic paste 1 tsp ginger paste 2 tsps coriander powder 1 tsp cumin powder ¼ tsp turmeric powder 400 gms chopped tomatoes, ground into a smooth paste in a food processor ½ litre chicken stock 2 tbsps kasuri methi (dried fenugreek leaves) 3 tbsps unmelted, soft butter Coriander leaves for garnishing

Errors in Writing Broadly speaking, the errors fall into three classes

1. Errors of Language These include the incorrect use of words, the wrong construction of sentences, faulty division into paragraphs, bad style, wrong idiom, the use of slang, incorrect spelling, bad punctuation, non-standardisation, and the unnecessary use of words from other languages. The errors in this category are the errors which every writer of good language should avoid. Because they are not so much offences against grammar as against the very spirit of the language. The writing of good language requires something more than the knowledge of grammar.

2. Errors of Thought These include repetition of ideas, irrelevance, failure to grasp ideas, and the misunderstanding of ideas. The errors of thought are the outcome of carelessness

3. Errors of Grammar These include the misuse of Articles and parts of speech. A set of letters from the alphabet of a language. They are in specific order and have a definite name. The first two letters of 24 Greek letters are 'alpha' and 'beta', which put together given the word alphabet. Of the 26 letters, five are vowels, 'y' is a semivowel, and the rest are consonants. Using the 26 letters we can make billions of words. However, only about a million (ten Lakh) words are known to be there in English

Inspirations!

Move Forward in Life

Many times we set our goals, but could not achieve them because of lack of inspiration and energy levels. But don't lose hope, just follow these simple ways to be the winner

Learn: The more knowledge you acquire, the more confident you will. Knowledge is power, and the more powerful you feel, the higher your confidence will be. Work on your posture: People with lower confidence often tend to have poor posture. Stand up, sit up, and keep your head up. It's an instant confidence booster. Fitness: Better physical condition and appearance gives you more body confidence, and as bonus, it gives you an added energy boost. Start a conversation: When you find yourself in a social situation, instead of talking to those people you're comfortable with, start a conversation with someone you don't know very well. Eventually getting to know new people will become easier. Have smaller goals: Smaller goals are easier and quicker to achieve and its achievement can give you a boost when you look for attaining bigger goals. Aim high : Think about the goals you have set for yourself. Are they really the most that you are capable of? Chances are, you re better than you think and you can do things that you previously never thought possible.

April 15, 2013

Raise your hand: Volunteer to take on tasks or projects that are a stretch for you. You'll learn you can do more than you thought you could and so will others. Always say, 'Yes' and give it a try. If you are not able to do it, its fine. At least you tried your best to do a job, which the others did not even attempt. Be around confident people: Cultivate relationships with 'can-do' people. This attitude will come in you also. On the other hand, avoid 'can't do' people. Be your own friend: When you hear that voice in your head, attacking you, remind yourself that a friend wouldn't talk to you in that manner. Keep practicing: Practice the skills you need to succeed. The more you practice, the more you practice, the more confident you become. This true of every type of skill. The benefit is that you get a better result at the end, more success, and a higher quality of life in all areas.

What if some English phrases were translated into Hindi? Allow me to share some of them: What s up?: Uppar kya hai? You re kidding: Tum balak samajh rahe ho Cool man: Baraf ka tukda Shut up: Apna shirt upar karo Play cricket: Pakad dandu, maar bandhu Check this out: Iski jhadti lo You are nuts: Aap aakhrot hai Let s hang out: Chal latakte hain Let s rock the party: Party mein patthar pheko Piss off: Sauchalay mein jao Jubel D'Cruz, Dombivili

The credit goes to ... Interviewer to millionaire: To whom do you owe your success as a millionaire?" Millionaire: 'I owe everything to my wife'. Interviewer: 'Wow, she must be some woman'. Intervieweer: 'What were you before you married her? Millionaire: 'A billionaire'

Trust yourself and have faith in almighty: There is a lot you can do if you have trust in yourself. God always sees your efforts and waits for the right time to reward you. Keep telling yourself, you can do it and finally you will accomplish your goals.

Laughter helps one forget the worries of the future and the pains of the past.... People often store negative emotion, such as anger, fear, and sorrow instead of expressing them.
