Volume I • Issue 3 • 1 October 2016 (102 pages including 6 for cover) No. F.2 (S.27) Press/ 2016 Editor Santosh Pathak
Dear Readers, Greetings from SecurityLink India! September commenced with the holding of the 5th edition of Trafficinfratech Expo at Mumbai from 1st to 3rd and witnessed the presence of an impressive lineup of senior officials from government departments, traffic/ transport/ parking experts and infrastructure developers who came to see what was on offer from the 100 odd companies from about 20 countries. The Seminar sessions focused on Smart Highways, ITS & Enforcement, Parking Management, and Urban Traffic Management with over 40 industry experts sharing their knowledge with the delegates. From 19 to 21 September ITPO held the 19th edition of India International Security Exhibition (IISE 2016), and apart from the display of futuristic trends and technologies the buzzword was, as usual, ‘Make in India’ – something that is poised at giving security product manufacturing a huge push in India. The initiative has not only given local manufactures a platform to make an impact worldwide, but aims at attracting foreign investors to set up joint ventures in India. With momentum picking up in India’s quest to complete 100 smart cities, everyone’s focus is on the earliest compliance and the security industry is not lagging in this race. The last phase of Maharashtra’s ambitious Mumbai City Surveillance Project comprising 6,000 CCTV cameras is complete and will be launched on October 2. As per a home department official, around 2,000 of these 6,000 CCTVs are now in operation, and the CCTV network will help maintain law and order, investigation, gathering evidence and managing traffic of the city. Mumbai police recently launched a ‘CCTV challan’ initiative, which would help in issuing fines to road rule violators without traffic police personnel being present on the site. This first-of-its-kind initiative was inaugurated at the traffic police headquarters in Worli, and as a part of the initiative, about 4,717 CCTV cameras have been installed throughout Mumbai which will record traffic violations, as per police sources. As we prepare to celebrate the Festival of Lights this year, the entire team at SecurityLink India wishes you a very happy Deepawali, and a prosperous year ahead. Till we meet next month stay safe! With warm regards,

Does your Surveillance System Fit the Proper Cyber Profile? By Ron Grinfeld – Director of Global Vertical Marketing for FLIR
A
s surveillance system technologies advance, so do the technologies employed by hackers. Increasingly sophisticated cyber criminals, whether working for criminal enterprises or for foreign governments, are developing not just better, but entirely different, ways to enter and manipulate or undercut the protection of surveillance systems. What are some of these emerging threats and how can you protect against them?
New kinds of threats
E
xtortion hacks break into sensitive company or customer data and threaten to release it unless the victim pays a ransom. This increasingly popular threat is different than merely encrypting or locking access to the data until a ransom is paid. Last year there were two known such cases of extortion, the first was an attack on the AshleyMadison.com site. The resulting data dump cost the CEO his job, and it exposed millions of wouldbe marital cheaters. A second case involved the hacking of InvestBank in the United Arab Emirates 16
and the exposure of customer account information. Data sabotage will, in all likelihood, be more difficult to detect than simple theft. Since very slight data alterations could result in enormous changes, hackers to the financial and stock-trading systems could create havoc to – and take advantage of – the manipulated rise and fall of stock prices. A potentially devastating type of data sabotage could result from the insertion of or alteration of code to a country’s weapon systems to change how they operate. Another threat will come about as the Internet of Things (IoT) spreads to many appliances and other devices. How will anyone be sure their toaster isn’t part of a menacing bot army? How can we ensure that our connect-

ed car won’t be susceptible to hacking? How about life-saving medical devices? Or sophisticated hackers who install back doors to enable access to a system whenever the hackers want? It’s become clear that the likelihood of cyber attacks isn’t a question of ‘if,’ but rather a question of ‘when.’ Now is the time to examine your own surveillance system to identify the inherent weaknesses and cyber vulnerabilities within it, and then develop a strategy to take action and mitigate your risk to exposure and loss.
The challenges of advanced technology
S
urveillance VMS makes up one of the key elements of today’s security systems, whether monitoring a small private company or a sprawling enterprise. Though the ability to monitor and control locations has never been more important, many systems are migrating from analog to an IP-based or cloud-managed system for the promise of better image resolution, remote access and monitoring, and accompanying analytic software packages.
CMYK
feature
Unfortunately, better technology may also represent a greater exposure to cyber attacks, as such systems can offer a number of easily accessible entry points for hackers that could compromise entire systems. Just last year there were several notable cyber attacks on both government and private organizations: ● The Office of Personnel Management was hacked and the addresses, health and financial information of 19.7 million people who had undergone background checks was stolen. ● The well-publicized breach of the Ashley Madison site last summer resulted in the theft of personal information and credit card information on more than 11 million users. ● Last fall, it was learned that healthcare insurance company Anthem had been hacked by the Chinese, who were seeking to learn how medical coverage in the United States is managed.
3 questions to ask yourself
I
n order to ensure that your organization’s security is up to today’s cyber warfare challenges, ask yourself these three questions. Is cyber defense a priority? As physical security systems continue to merge with the world of IP, it is helpful to start by declaring that cybersecurity is truly a priority for the organization. Cyber attacks continue to grow in both range and severity, and from all accounts it appears they will continue to do so. In today’s world, to not declare that cyber defense is a priority is, in effect, inviting attack. And sooner or later, it will come. Has my installer or integrator ‘hardened’ my system? To harden a system against intrusion means to heighten its security by reducing the number of potential breach points that could be ex-
ploited by hackers. Some installers and integrators are cutting prices in order to remain ‘competitive,’ but if they don’t reduce the number of potential breach points, they are doing you no favors. Today’s systems are increasingly sophisticated and require a high level of IT experience and knowledge in order to implement them effectively. Also, make sure your system manufacturer didn’t cut any corners by failing to run a full range of testing to determine all software and hardware vulnerabilities of their products. Are my users a weak link in my security chain? Your own users can become enablers to cyber hacking through the use of weak or default passwords, or through requesting unnecessary remote access privileges to the network. Rest assured that hackers will find the weak links in your security chain, so it’s important to demand that all users accept cyber security as the priority that it is.
6 steps to developing a strategy to mitigate risk
E
veryone in both government and industry agrees that cyber threats are one of the nation’s gravest threats. Mitigating those threats has attracted both media attention and budget dollars to the tune of $90 billion or more. Yet the threat continues, not just for small companies, but also for Sony, the State Department, and healthcare companies like CareFirst. The truth is that there is no silver bullet that will eliminate all risk, and it takes a concerted effort to develop a strategy that will mitigate the risk. Here are six steps that can point you in the direction of developing an effective strategy to mitigate the risk to your organization: ● Realize that your organization has cyber risks. Hackers hack for as many reasons as there are types of SecurityLink India ■ 1 October 2016
CMYK
victims of hacking: including healthcare companies, credit card companies, manufacturers, and government agencies. The list goes on. Don’t be surprised if your organization is hacked one day. ● Determine your biggest risks. You’re not going to prevent every single attack, so a good place to start is by determining your most valuable assets: what systems are the most valuable, what information is most sensitive. Tap your key managers to conduct a discovery process across the organization. ● Put together a cyber risk leadership team. Good governance requires leadership and effective decisionmaking. Don’t wait until the first attack before assembling your team. ● Involve your entire organization. As noted earlier, any user who doesn’t understand that cyber security is a priority may inadvertently assist the hackers trying to gain admittance to your systems. Get everyone on board. ● Don’t protect only the perimeter. Budgets today are still skewed towards perimeter-protecting tools like firewalls and anti-virus programs, but it’s important to have a plan of action for when those perimeters are breached. ● Practice dry run responses. Don’t let your first attack be a real one. Practice a response ahead of time. It may mean the difference between a contained incident and a disastrous loss. A mitigation strategy is also important as a tool to help the organization better distinguish between a threat and a genuine loss. Experiencing a breach but containing the damage may, in that case, be considered a success, and help protect the company’s bottom line. 17

The 3 ‘T’s Driving the Global Commercial Security Market: Technology, Terrorism and Theft S
ummarizing extensive market insights provided by Intersec’s research partner Frost & Sullivan, this report looks into the global Commercial Safety and Security Market. Driven by increased thefts and terrorist activities, as well as the advent of enhanced security technology, the market is in a high growth stage. While the United States dominates market share, other markets are fast emerging and are likely to be the demand drivers in the coming years. The increased amount of commercial and infrastructural development projects is likely to be the main accelerators of this growth. Sector trends include the increased use of more sophisticated technology with a shift from analogue to IP-based video surveillance equipment, for example, and an increased demand for video surveillance as a service (VSaaS). Although the commercial safety and security market is a fragmented one, which makes it highly competitive, the market offers great growth opportunities for participants in both the short and long term.
The Middle East Commercial Security Market Forecast

Introduction
I
n an ever-evolving modern world, with increased security threats and growing terrorist activities, the demand for security equipment is on the rise. Growth in construction, urbanisation, increasing middle and upper class population and an influx of ground-breaking security technologies are some of the key factors which are driving the commercial security sector. We take a look at these key drivers in the global physical security market, drawing from detailed analysis and market insights provided by Intersec’s research partners Frost & Sullivan (2013 forecasts). After looking at the global market we zone in on how each region is evolving, with an emphasis on industry dynamics in the Middle East.
Physical security market
F
rost & Sullivan define the physical security market as all hardware including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, perimeter protection, door alarms etc., as well as management software and system integration, including designing and consulting. According to the research, the USA dominates the security industry with a 35 per cent market share. Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, however, despite having

Middle East market
Global market
A
The Middle East Homeland Security Market
ccording to the research, the global physical security market was estimated to be worth USD 58.6 bn in 2014 and forecasted to grow to USD 109.3 bn by 2020 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.9 per cent. The total value of global production of security products at gate prices in 2013 was USD 23.4 bn, with video surveillance products making up USD 23.4 bn of this, access control at USD 5.11 bn, and intruder alarms at USD 6 bn. China and India are likely to have seen the fastest rise in security equipment demand with more than 10 per cent growth forecast through to 2016. In China, the overall safety and security market was expected to reach USD 8.5 bn in 2015. About 17 per cent of its physical security equipment and services revenue went on video surveillance equipment in 2013, which reflects the tendency for the Asian equipment market to be highly focused on video surveillance equipment. Forecasts predict that the Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS) market could reach USD 2,390.9 mn by 2017 at a CAGR of 31.5 per cent globally.
D
uring 2013, it was projected that the Middle East spent around USD 2 bn on security systems and equipment. The Frost & Sullivan research predicted that the overall physical security market in the Middle East would have reached USD 3 bn in 2014 and could scale to an impressive USD 10.9 bn by 2020. Its 23.7 per cent CAGR between 2015 and 2020 is more than double the global growth rate, which could mean the Middle East will represent almost 10 per cent of the overall global physical security market by 2020. In the Middle East as a whole, infrastructure protection is anticipated to reach USD 13.07 bn by 2018. The Middle East transportation safety and security market is likely to grow from USD 3.75 bn in 2014 to USD 6.59 bn in 2019 at a CAGR of 11.9 per cent during the forecast period. Turkey is the market leader in the video surveillance sector in the Middle East, although in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia video surveillance equipment was to grow by an estimated 25 per cent between 2011 and 2016 and in the UAE, by 15 per cent. Overall, the Middle East’s video surveillance equipment market is likely to grow by 10 per cent in the coming years.
The trends
D
uring the forecast period, hardware accounted for more than 70 per cent of total global revenues in the physical security market, with the remaining split between software and services. The growing need for intelligent and integrated security systems is expected to drive revenues for software, and security as a service is also gaining popularity, which could further spur revenues. It is interesting to note that no company holds more than five per cent of the global physical security and services market share. Furthermore, the top 15 manufacturers and service providers together only constitute 22 per cent of the global market. This highlights the fragmented nature and high levels of competition prevailing in the industry. SecurityLink India â– 1 October 2016

This system is a cost effective solution for local enforcement for speed violations for industrial, commercial or residential campuses. Focusing on the solutions, the radar speed sign collects traffic data of passing cars. If a driver is speeding the sign flashes the car speed, making the driver aware that the speed limit is being exceeded. The camera when installed with radar sign will capture cars picture, when cars exceeds the speed limit. Simultaneously a report will be generated via software mentioning Date, Time, Speed of vehicle and Vehicle number. Private Security Industry Conclave (PSIC) 2016
Bandaru Dattatreya, Labour Minister: Categorization of security guards as ‘skilled’ and armed security guards & security supervisors as ‘highly skilled’ workers on the cards
T
he increase in globalisation of business operations in the country has highlighted the need for better urban security with a technologically advance and mechanically complex security network. The situation has brought to the fore the need for private security personnel, in the light of low police-population ratio in the country. The private security industry has grown exponentially over the years, currently estimated to be `40,000 crore, with about 50 lakh security personnel who assist in securing assets and protecting lives across India. With the changing scenario and increase in risks, the demand for private security services has increased substantially. FICCI’s Private Security Industry Conclave (PSIC), is one-of-its-kind programme that brings together industry, government, controlling authorities, user agencies and other stakeholders to highlight, discuss and debate various policy and regulatory issues concerning the industry. The fourth edition of the Conclave was organised on September 14, 2016 at FICCI and witnessed participation of senior officials from various ministries/ departments of the central and state governments, think-tanks, industry associations, security services providers, user agencies and others. The most important highlight of PSIC 2016 was the keynote addressed by Bandaru Dattatreya, Minister of State (Independ-
ent Charge) of Labour and Employment, Government of India. Dattatreya indicated that the Ministry of Labour and Employment will soon announce categorisation of security guards as ‘skilled’ workers and armed security guards and security supervisors as ‘highly skilled,’ entitling them to receive a minimum wage of `15,000 per month and `25,000 per month, respectively. He further emphasised that the government is keen in pursuing labour re-
forms, which is part of the larger goal of the central government, by interlinking the key flagship programmes, like Skill India, Make in India and Start-up India, with the agenda of labour reforms. The much awaited move by the Modi Government will not only bring enhanced wages to over 50 lakh security personnel currently engaged in the private security space, but will provide social security cover to over 2.5 crore of their family members. The decision will also enable private security agencies to recruit, train

and employ quality workforce for the sector, which has been an indispensable demand of the all stakeholders alike – security agencies, corporations, and the public. Dattatreya highlighted that as part of the simplification exercise, the codification and amalgamation of 44 Central labour laws into four codes, viz., wages, industrial relations, social security and working conditions, and health and safety, will be referred for Cabinet approval shortly. A bill to this effect will be introduced in the next session of Parliament. Manjari Jaruhar, Chair, FICCI Committee on Private Security Industry and Former Special DG, CISF, in her remarks, said that some of the key issues which FICCI has been flagging to various ministries and government bodies are effective enforcement of PSAR Act, 2005, armed security for cash logistics, and classification of security guard and armed security guard, and security supervisors as skilled and highly skilled worker respectively. Speaking at the Conclave, Rituraj Sinha, Co-Chair, FICCI Committee on

cies (Regulation) Act introduced a regulatory framework into an otherwise un-regulated industry, the regulation itself has some serious gaps that act as impediments to the growth of the industry. TVSN Prasad, Joint Secretary (Police Modernisation), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India listed few issues related to enforcement of Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005 and mentioned that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has constituted four working groups concerning the private security industry. It is interesting to note that Controlling Authorities of various states participated in the conclave and they highlighted that the states did enact the legislation, but enforcement has been a challenge. Another important feature of the Conclave was to build a platform for Chief Security Officers (CSOs) of different industrial houses in order to understand users’ perspective. The session on CSOs discussed challenges faces by PSAs during the course of their operations and highlighted resource expectations in overcoming the challenges.

FICCI has sought a simplified ‘Wage Code’ and recategorisation of security personnel as skilled and highly-skilled worker from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, in order to ensure skilled category pay structure for trained security guards across India. The Conclave was also addressed by Sudha Pillai, Chair, FICCI Task Force on Labour Reforms and former Union Labour Secretary. She pointed out that a major responsibility of the government today was to find jobs for the growing number of young people who join the workforce every year. just need to install the app. The digital copies of driving license and registration certificate can also be shared with other departments for verification purpose. Although it is a great initiative by the Government of India to provide a secure centralized document storage and sharing facility, it is interesting to note that fraudsters have been quick to capitalize on this and have ended up creating numerous DigiLocker apps and in order to make it look authentic to their future victims; they have used not just the Indian Prime Minister's photo but also used India’s National Emblem. Allowing the trend analysis based on past experiences, it is to be noted that these fake apps might steal your credentials or act as Adware or in worst cases the apps might become the harbinger of Ransomware. Google’s Play store makes use of
Google Bouncer, which searches the Android market for apps that could be malicious. However, it allows anyone to publish an app in the Play Store. The fake apps’ download range is 10,000 to 50,000 whereas original DigiLocker app download range is between 1 lakh

Galaxy Reinforces Customer First Focus with ASIS 2016 Exhibit
alaxy Control Systems’ exhibit at ASIS 2016 proved why they are a leading provider of integrated access control and security solutions. From mobile apps that provide users with greater control to advanced port filtering that helps busy networks manage the growing surge of traffic; and from traditional thick client to web-based thin client operation, their System Galaxy access control solution is designed to improve both organizational security and operational efficiency, benefitting organizations and users alike. “System Galaxy, with its advanced capabilities, enables true control and management for improved security and efficiencies across the organization,” said Robert Laughlin, President, Galaxy Control Systems, “These strengths make it a key foundation in enabling our customers to support their security objectives.” Display highlights included: The DoorPoint mobile app provides authorized security personnel with the ability to manage a facility’s doors to enhance security. Through the app, users can remotely lock, unlock and pulse doors, view door status and view activity
report data from the System Galaxy access control software. In an emergency situation, the app also allows security personnel to activate and reset crisis modes if necessary and to view current crisis mode status. PersonPoint mobile app allows authorized users to activate and de-activate cardholders remotely, with the added benefit of viewing e-mail activity reports provided by System Galaxy. Users can search for cardholders by name, department or other data fields, further enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of their access control software. Both DoorPoint and PersonPoint apps are available for download at Android and Apple stores. The new Advanced Port Filtering feature was also featured. Because there is a media access control address (also known as a MAC address) for every wi-fi-enabled device on the network, the advent of the Internet of Things and the rapid growth of connected devices is causing a tremendous surge to the amount of traffic that is seen by the network. The new Advanced Port Filtering combats this problem, ensuring that not all devices are continuously monitored SecurityLink India ■ 1 October 2016

Genetec Announces Mission Control Situational Intelligence and Decision Support System
Offering Will Empower Organizations to Confidently Manage Both Routine Operations and Unexpected Incidents
G
enetec Inc., recently announced Mission Control, a Decision Support System (DSS) that will provide security professionals with new levels of situational intelligence, system visualization, and incident management. Designed to work seamlessly with Security Center, the company’s unified security platform that combines video surveillance, access control, automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) and communications management, Mission Control aims to simplify the operator's tasks and decision-making process when handling routine activities and undesirable situations. Genetec Mission Control is expected to be available in Q4 2016, and was demonstrated at ASIS 2016. Ideally suited to meet the operational needs of larger, multi-site deployments in markets such as higher educa-

tion and transportation, Mission Control will give operators a holistic, unified, and map-centric view of their entire security infrastructure. Mission Control will also move beyond the capabilities of traditional security platforms, enabling organizations to manage the entire lifecycle of incidents and situations, from monitoring incoming sensor data and detecting incidents, all the way through to resolution and auditing. With Mission Control, organizations will be able to define their response strategy and contingency plans in advance. Based on their unique needs and environment, security and operations departments will be able to create incident categories, the multi-layered rules that trigger each, and automate system actions to address them. They can further assign automated workflows and

standard operating procedures (SOPs) to incident categories, which are triggered when an incident is detected to guide the response of the operator to ensure compliance with internal and external policies. “Security systems have been traditionally designed to report events and alarms, leaving it up to the operator to interpret the information and react to situations. However, with the increased complexity of security installations, and the sheer volume of data gathered by the multitude of sensors, it can be difficult for operators to confidently assess complex situations or respond to threats,” explains Jimmy Palatsoukas, Senior Manager of Product Marketing, Genetec, Inc., “Mission Control will allow personnel to take control of undesirable situations by correlating incoming data to detect more complex situations, prioritize larger incidents and threats, and remove emotion from the response by steering operators along the way.” Mission Control gives security personnel a more intelligent view of an incident so they can make informed decisions. This is achieved by ingesting data from thousands of sensors and associated real-time information and qualifying them more intelligently based on the enduser’s operational environment. Once triggered, incidents launch workflows that drive system behavior and guide operator responses through the entire lifecycle of the incident using SOPs. In addition to comprehensive incident management,

Mission Control will offer operators the ability to manage both active and historical incidents, run reports for analysis purposes and continuous improvement, as well as for auditing purposes. To enhance and streamline the op-
erator experience, Mission Control introduces new levels of interaction within dynamic maps, including monitoring live incidents and response management, to go beyond traditional maps that are generally limited to monitoring
security devices and singular events. By utilizing a map-centric approach to monitoring and command and control, operators will be able to more intuitively visualize the security environment and take appropriate action as warranted.

By combining data from Zebra RFID-tagged items with high-definition surveillance video, March Networks Searchlight makes it possible for companies to quickly search events by date, time, brand, product type, serial number or Electronic Product Code (EPC). They can then access the associated video with a single click to see exactly when and how an item entered or left a location. Users can conduct searches centrally from any networked location and simultaneously across multiple locations. For example, an organization can discover in minutes the last time a specific, high-value item was present in a store or warehouse by searching on the
product serial number and reviewing the recorded video. Similarly, it can use the same search capability to resolve more systemic – and potentially costly – issues, such as tracking the 10 or 12 items reported missing from inventory at the end of each month. In the future, the tight integration of RFID, POS and video data could enable automated alerts in the Searchlight software. This would allow companies to proactively respond to anomalies such as high-value items being removed from a location without first being cap-
tured on an order, or the need to replenish best-selling items on store or warehouse shelves.
Fire Fighting Liquid Makes Every Drop of Water Count
A liquid that greatly improves the ability of water to douse a blaze is helping firefighters battle wild fires in North America and Europe
D
eveloped in South Australia by BioCentral Laboratories, BlazeTamer380 has been used this fire season in the air and on the ground in five states in the US while testing of the product has begun in Portugal and France. BioCentral Laboratories Managing Director John Stepancic said mixing BlazeTamer with water bound molecules together, increasing the effectiveness of air drops by up to 44 per cent. “What you want to do is hold that body of water together as best as possible so that it hits in a uniform manner which gives it the capacity to absorb as much energy as possible without leaving behind patchy
areas that continue to burn,” he said. “You can get the same job done with just a single drop and that’s what the pilots like about it most, we’re finding they’ll use the product in one state and then when they fly in another state the next month they’re asking to use BlazeTamer again.” BlazeTamer is also one of the most environmentally friendly fire fighting agents in use, approved by the EPA and Australia’s Water Quality Centre as the only product that can be used near water catchments and other sensitive areas, provided that manufacturing instructions are followed. SecurityLink India ■ 1 October 2016

The liquid is designed to be mixed with water in low quantities, ranging from 2 litres per 1000 for ground based fire fighting to 6.5 litres in 1000 for aerial drops from fixed wing aircraft. The BlazeTamer required to mix a standard 3000 litre would cost about US$305 (AU$400). “That means we’re about a third of the cost of the most commonly used fire retardants, which are about $1300$1500 (AUD) per 3000-litre load,” Stepanic said, “It’s also cheaper because aircraft are in the air for less time, because they can eliminate more of the fire with a single drop.” 49
CMYK
product showcase
Stepancic said the efficiency of BlazeTamer mixed water made the liquid more effective at not just containing fires, but eliminating them in initial attack water drops. As a result, pilots and ground firefighters were able to more easily control fires before they began to burn out of
control, he said. “The problem is trying to manage a fire doesn’t work all the time – fires are by nature very unpredictable and you’ll get wind shift. “So the whole idea is to stop the fire with those initial attack drops rather than it getting out of control and then look-
ing at how you can manage it best when there’s property and lives at stake.” The 2015 United States fire season was the worst since 1960, with more than 11 million acres of land burned, according to the National Interagency Fire Centre. The rise in fire damage has been attributed to a greater number of homes in fire-prone areas and hotter, drier seasons. BioCentral Laboratories hopes to expand usage of BlazeTamer to more states in the US during the next fire season. “The States have been very encouraging at using new technology and looking at how best to adapt it,” Stepancic said, “We’re still going through the process of educating fire-fighting authorities about BlazeTamer, but the pilots who have actually used our product have really championed us to different area commanders.”

bound after impacting the barrier was an incredible 11.5 feet. “The HD200 is truly a breakthrough vehicle barrier,” explains Greg Hamm, Delta Scientific Vice President, Marketing and Sales, “A vehicle moving at 30 mph will travel 44 feet per second. With a 0.63 second EFO speed, if triggered within 50 feet of the barrier, will still stop and destroy the attacking vehicle. As the tragedy in Nice has warned so many security professionals, we need to be aware of vehicle attacks. Especially in high traffic locations, we need high speed open/ close rates to get the many vehicles in and out. Likewise, in densely occupied locations,
we need very fast closing rates to protect the people. In high volume locations, the barrier is open much of the time. Therefore, when the location is heavily populated as well, we need the barrier to open and close frequently but, as importantly, close quickly.” With a 24-inch (61 cm) shallow foundation and fully enclosed, flush mount design, the HD200 obviates the concerns of interference with buried pipes, power lines and fiber optic communication lines in urban applications. The shallow foundation also reduces installation complexity, time, materials and corresponding costs. The HD200 is
perfect for high water table locations and areas with corrosive soils. It provides low maintenance as its totally enclosed face is easily removed for access. Leveraging the latest technologies, the HD200’s breakthrough EFO can be remotely controlled via fiber optics, touch screen control panels, NEMA rated control button panels and simple key switches. The HD200 barrier also features a full range of diagnostic indicators for early detection of any difficulties. As with most other Delta barricades and barriers that are properly maintained, projected life expectancy of the HD200 is 20+ years.

Bosch Introduces Latest Starlight Technology The ultimate 24/7 IP video surveillance cameras just got even better
B
osch starlight cameras deliver the highest quality of relevant video surveillance, even in extremely low light conditions. From October, the starlight portfolio will be further enhanced with improved light sensitivity, superb front and backlight compensation; higher frames rates as well as a wider choice of resolutions and form factors. Another compelling enrichment is that all Bosch IP 6000, 7000 and 8000 starlight cameras will feature Bosch video analytics at the edge as standard, instead of an optional feature requiring no additional investment or license fees from the customer. Bosch feels that the offering of video analytics at the edge as standard is now a necessity to cater to the ever-increasing demand for details and the proliferation of cameras. Bosch video analytics adds sense and structure to video data already at the point of capture (at the edge), enabling users to effortlessly search through large amounts of video data and to pinpoint the information that matters most to them. In this way users can take appropriate action faster, easier and more efficiently. It also enables them to reduce network strain and storage requirements by streaming only the data needed. The complete IP starlight camera portfolio from Bosch offers a wider selection of resolutions (720p, 1080p, 5 megapixel) and form factors including fixed box, fixed dome or moving dome cameras; as well as extremely rugged moving cameras for when conditions get tough. The starlight portfolio also offers higher dynamic ranges of up to 120 dB for perfect exposure in all lighting con-
ditions regardless of front and backlight, as well as frame rates of up to 60 frames per second to easily capture fast moving objects. In addition, the latest sensor technology, combined with sophisticated noise suppression, results in a light sensitivity of 0.0069 lux in color and 0.0008 lux in monochrome for the 1080p models. This enables starlight cameras to produce full color images in the dark beyond the point where other cameras have switched to monochrome. Where other cameras fail to show any image at all, starlight cameras are still capable of delivering detailed monochrome images. Bosch’s video analytics at the edge enables starlight cameras to interpret data and to decide what and when to stream based on configurable triggers minimizing bandwidth requirements if needed. DNA Detective Uses Invisible Ink to Safeguard Homes I
NVISIBLE ink spray to identify intruders and remotely activated video cameras that live stream to mobile phones are the latest tools in the battle against home burglaries. DNA Detective has been developed by South Australian Company DNA Security Solutions and uses a highly specific spray machine to mark home invaders with an invisible dye that is revealed under UV light. The DNA marking technology is made up of 99.9 per cent purified water, a vegetable-based fluorescent dye and a unique synthetic DNA code – all of which are completely harmless. The solution called Signatag stains the clothes and skin of unwanted visitors for up to six weeks, allowing police to forensically place criminals at the scene of a crime. The spray machine can be activated automatically through an alarm system or manually by smartphone to spray burglars as they leave the premises. It works in tandem with a wireless camera system, which is used to identify an intruder and see what they steal. An alert is sent to a homeowner’s phone when the alarm is activated and they are able to remotely control the cameras using Wi-Fi. Once a suspect is apprehended, police can shine a UV light to highlight the spray residue and then use a swab to match the Signatag to a specific home. The idea for DNA Detective came from the success of its predecessor DNA Guardian, which was used in convenience stores around Australia to spray
and later identify robbers. The Adelaide-based company is making minor modifications to the product, which it plans to launch in the United States early next year. FBI statistics show there were about 1.73 million home burglaries in the United States in 2014 – one every 18 seconds. Managing Director Tania Jolley said DNA Detective would not only help police effectively identify thieves but also work as a deterrent. “There is an enormous amount of flexibility
machine can be placed near the front door with multiple cameras set up at various points, which can cover almost 80 per cent of the inside of the house. The SMART cameras can be manually controlled and are accessed using a mobile phone app. Users can swivel the cameras by swiping left or right on their screens and track any movement. This could also be effective in capturing a picture of an intruder’s face and allows users to shorten the time taken to notify authorities of a break-in as well as provide police with footage of the robbery.
The DNA Guardian spray machine (Left) uses invisible ink to mark robbers we can offer with this level of control. You’d much rather want to see what is going on as opposed to getting a call from your security company telling you there is someone in your house,” she said. “This way you get a photo sent to your phone where you can swap between cameras and identify the person to figure out if it is in fact a robbery taking place or it’s just one of your kids. “It’s miles away from where people are at the moment but that is where they want to be.” The security package is completely wireless and easy to install. Jolley said the products would be available for purchase within the next six months, “The Guardian was a highly intelligent product that gave businesses a 98 per cent chance of not having to deal with these issues. For our US based strategy what we want to do is leverage off the brand we built here for our Guardian product.” There are almost 1000 Guardian systems in use with financing packages that start from AU$30 per week. Jolley said DNA Detective would use a similar finance model, which is about the same price as monitored alarm systems. 57

Farpointe Partners with Cypress on Wireless Mobile, Handheld Card Readers Handheld wireless mobile reader (WMR) system provides identity verification where fixed readers can't
F
arpointe Data has announced that handheld wireless mobile reader (WMR) systems using Farpointe reader modules are now available from Cypress Integrated Solutions. The handheld reader combines a Farpointe card reader and a wireless Cypress Suprex Reader-Extender in one portable unit so that the user can perform reads at any place versus readers in only a fixed location. As a result, the WMR can remotely verify credentials, check IDs in trucks and buses, create emergency assembly points/ muster stations, verify staff attendance at training sessions and create access control points away from buildings. “We get ‘oos and ahhs’ with our handheld wireless mobile readers,” emphasizes President Paul Ahern of Cypress Computer Systems, “They are used to reading credentials in applications where it just would not be practical to use a fixed reader. Whenever we offer one to a prospect who uses it for the first time, we always get a big smile.” The handheld unit transmits card data to a Cypress WMR base unit that 68
is connected to an access control panel from a distance of up to 150 feet (45.7 m) indoors and up to 250 feet (76.2 m) outdoors. Challenging installations are simplified with the addition of RF expanders and repeaters using the Cypress bridging architecture. Vehiclemounted readers for employee and/ or visitor logging and tracking are also available. The WMR system includes a Wiegand or serial panel interface for real-time verification. AES Encryption for secure communications is available upon request. No channel selection is required as the units are preconfigured at the factory. A diagnostic indicator on the central unit determines the operational status. Up to eight units can operate in the same area without factory modifications. Multiple grip colors accent the WMR. “Truly versatile, the Cypress WMR is a terrific incremental addition to any wireless electronic access control system,” adds Scott Lindley, President of Farpointe Data, “We would encourage any access control manufacturer, inteSecurityLink India ■ 1 October 2016

Chinese firms like Hikvision and Dahua Technology have continued to grow much faster than the market average, not only in their domestic market but internationally too. Part of their success has been down to offering products at lower
prices than their competitors. In addition, single-product suppliers are increasingly being challenged by solution providers offering pre-integrated products. Integrators are increasingly leveraging single-vendor solutions to reduce installation costs and focus on the more profitable service and maintenance contracts.

Network Video Helps University at Buffalo Continue to Expand Campus-wide Security University continues to develop video security system with Milestone software, and Axis cameras meet ongoing video surveillance needs
M
ilestone XProtect open platform IP video management software (VMS) is a trusted foundation for the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB SUNY) to continue expansion of their campus-wide security monitoring. The scalable technology has continued to meet growing needs for the different departments for more than 10 years. IP network cameras were first installed in 2004 at SUNY Buffalo. Today, Milestone XProtect Corporate VMS connects nearly 800 devices across the UB campus, and the system continues to expand. The surveillance hardware is a best-in-class mix of various static and pan/ tilt/ zoom network cameras from Axis Communications. The university has also deployed Blue Light emergency phones around campus which are integrated with Milestone’s open platform architecture. When someone picks up a Blue Light phone to make a call, that data goes through the Milestone software rules engine which is set up to move the nearest Axis PTZ camera to view the phone station, provide real-time situational awareness and record the video. As a call comes into police dispatch, Milestone ‘pops in’ the image of the phone location to a large monitor where the operator has instant awareness of the location. “About a year ago, Digital Surveillace Solutions (DSS) took over the maintenance contract for our Blue Light phones. Since then, they have repaired issues that were previously unable to
be resolved for years,” said Joshua B. Sticht, Deputy Chief of Police, Operations, University at Buffalo, “DSS stepped in and got the system operating as expected. Also, a contractor recently damaged the protective dome of an exterior camera. When we contacted

In choosing Milestone, the campus has gained flexibility and scalability, effective centralized administration and wider geographic distribution. Additionally, cost efficiencies have been realized by using standard IT resources – both the equipment and network infrastructure – as well as the IT Department’s expertise and maintenance routines for keeping the system up and running. Opportunities for expansion continue as UB is growing in the downtown corridor. The medical school is also constructing a beautiful new building that will include 200-300 cameras, all connected via Milestone. With additional buildings under construction, new projects abound, such as perimeter monitoring parking lots and other areas needing security.

Europe’s First Private Business Park Creates a Secure Working Environment Thanks to SeeTec E
urope’s first private business park, Paris Nord 2, prides itself on the resources it offers – and with good reason. Spread over some 300 hectares – the equivalent of 420 football pitches – its
premises are home to 550 companies, employing in excess of 20,000 staff members. In addition to its 265 office buildings, the area also serves as a location for numerous warehouses, car parks, restaurants and hotels.
The task
A
nother notable feature among the wide variety of resources offered by the business complex which opened in 1981, is the equipment it has put in place to create a secure working environment. In the past, the business park’s management team primarily relied on security personnel and a small number of surveillance cameras to provide the best possible level of security. Despite this, over time the site increasingly became the target of vandalism in public and private spaces, as well as falling victim to theft and willful damage of parked vehicles. In the end, the management team took the decision to in78
stall a state-of-the-art video surveillance system, serving not only as a preventative measure and a deterrent, but also as a tool for assisting police with their inquiries. The intention was for the system to maintain a 24/7 view of critical points across the extensive site. From the operator’s perspective, it was also essential to have a continuous recording facility that would make it possible to find out exactly what had happened when incidents occurred. The system had to be flexible and easy to handle, and it had to reduce the workload for staff on site, thus keeping costs down.
The solution
C
ompared to current industry standards the video system that was already in place had a limited capacity and range of functions, making it unsuitable for fulfilling the additional requirements that the operator now had. However, it was the system’s lack of ability to expand through the addition of more cameras that posed the most significant problem. Despite the Paris Nord 2 business park gaining an increasingly higher profile, attracting more and more companies to its premises, the surveillance system technology had simply stagnated. With this in mind, the management team tasked Informatique Nord 2 – an independent IT system vendor – with finding and implementing a new video surveillance system. cept, the IP-based video management software SeeTec Cayuga made exactly the right impression. Packed with a range of modules and features that can be docked onto the core software, it provides a customisable, scalable solution that is able to grow effortlessly with customers’ needs over time. The approach taken by the German manufacturer – with its own local branch in the greater Paris region – is not tied to any specific platform or manufacturer, enabling it to provide a product that is tailor-made for the customer and a one-stop solution that caters to all kinds of requirements.
The result
T
he project became a reality in less than a year, with additional functions adopted from SeeTec Cayuga’s extensive range making it possible for the system to go above and beyond the requirements it had originally been asked to meet. In addition to straightforward recording and playback of video streams, image data can be combined with the customer’s procedures using functions such as licence plate recognition, video analysis and the Access Control Interface. This results in additional benefits. As an example, the SeeTec LPR module is being used at four lanes that provide access to one of the car parks in Paris Nord 2, detecting all incoming and outgoing vehicles and registering them in a database. This means that security personnel always know exactly who is currently on the premises, and provide quick answers in cases of damage or theft. premises, providing the security team with a 24/7 view of the images they capture on a large-screen system in the control centre. This not only makes it clear what is happening on the site, but also creates a display that is rich in detail. The SeeTec Display Agent function allows the
large-screen system to be controlled from a standard client workstation. In the event of an alarm, control centre employees are able to assess the situation quickly and prioritise the actions that needs to be taken on site, ensuring security staff are deployed in a way that is resource-ecient.
Minnesota School District Selects Hikvision Equipment for Security Overhaul H
ikvision has provided Becker Public Schools in Minneapolis, Minnesota a multi-step security upgrade to protect its students, staff, and facilities. Shortly after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December of 2012, Becker Public School District decided that their older surveillance system was in need of a serious overhaul and selected Hikvision video surveillance equipment for the project. “We were really looking to expand our camera system following Sandy Hook,” said Sumre Robinson, network manager for Becker Public Schools, “It wasn’t necessarily to increase the numbers of cameras, but to eventually be able to provide access to the cameras to police in an emergency situation.” Becker School District called on local integrator Security & Sound to complete the installation, and Hikvision surveillance products were selected. A rigorous implementation process ensued and the critical nature of the project propelled the work. Phil Otto, CFO of Security & Sound in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota, proposed using a multiple-phase installation with Hikvision surveillance cameras to complete the system. The first
stage of execution improved visibility around exterior entries. The second stage saw upgrades to interior areas with IP cameras and expanded coverage of hallways and rooms. Challenges to this project included finding cameras that were both durable and unobtrusive, selecting vandal-resistant products for outdoor areas, and securing zero-light areas at night with infrared cameras. “As with most schools, the Becker School District had concerns about their parking lot surveillance coverage and video capabilities after dark,” Otto said, “We recommended Hikvision’s DarkFighter line of PTZ cameras in key outdoor areas where evening lighting was an issue but color video was desired. Hikvision’s DS2DF8223I-AEL 1080p PTZ camera was chosen to cover the parking lots due to its color lux rating of 0.002 and built-in tour and auto tracking features. The camera’s low light capabilities coupled with the ambient light from the parking lot allow the camera to stay in full color at all times regardless of cloud cover or inclement weather.” SecurityLink India ■ 1 October 2016

“Hikvision works to create versatile solutions for diverse applications and vertical markets,” said Jeffrey He, President of Hikvision USA and Hikvision Canada, “Video surveillance in educational facilities is essential, which is why we offer solutions to meet the requirements of these applications. It is satisfying to know that our products help school safety and city officials provide safer educational environments for students and staff.” In the end, Hikvision’s extensive product line provided a full range of networked cameras that fit every requirement from the administration. On top of that, the Hikvision products also met budget requirements – a crucial piece of the puzzle for most schools and school districts. 79

Colombia San Nicolás Shopping Mall Frees up Security Staff with VIVOTEK’s People-Counting Solution
T
hanks to this solution, the San Nicolás shopping mall in Antioquia, Colombia, has upgraded from its manual people-counting procedure into a more practical and effective, IP based VIVOTEK system. Traditionally, people counting at shopping malls is done manually, a responsibility assigned to security personnel or guards whose primary task is to ensure public safety and protect the property of the mall and its tenants. To carry out this task, security personnel use a pushbutton that they activate whenever a person enters the building. However they have other tasks to take care of, which prevent full reliability and effectiveness in the counting process. Thus shopping malls are faced with a dilemma. It is important to count the number of people that visit them in order to determine the traffic flow and their potential customers, and even to determine issues such as the rent of particular high-traffic premises. Further, a number of marketing, infrastructure, events and other type of decisions are made based on the counting metrics. However, by employing security staff for this task,
valuable human resources are taken up without a satisfactory end result.
Requirements of the mall – VIVOTEK comes out on top
T
he system integrator, ICONTRONIX had previously worked with this client. “In the third stage of the mall we installed the complete security system, the fire control system, the CCTV, the surround sound system, the loudspeakers system, and implemented the monitoring center,” says Carlos Sanchez, Marketing Manager at ICONTRONIX. For this reason, the mall management asked the company to provide them with a people counting system. “We made an offer with two or three alternatives in the market and VIVOTEK was chosen. After testing, it definitely was the best option because its cameras both incorporate a counter function and are armed with robust software for reporting,” points out Sanchez.
The solution – VIVOTEK’s SC8131 3D stereo network camera
T
his project had two stages of implementation. The first was the establishment of infrastructure: the wiring, pipes, switches and the communication elements. The second phase, nearly a SecurityLink India ■ 1 October 2016

week long, focused on the installation of the cameras. It was also necessary to hold another week of testing to compare the results with manual counting and video recordings. The solution was installed in the six pedestrian entrances of the mall.
Six units of VIVOTEK’s stereo network camera, the SC8131 were installed – linked intelligently together by VIVOTEK’s professional video management software, VAST. Carlos Sanchez was extremely satisfied with the results, “Each installed camera works independently collecting its coverage statistics and reporting to the server regularly.” These individual cameras, smart on their own, become even more powerful and flexible when connected. As Sanchez added, “The reports can be exported from the server and organized in different formats.”

the world to have fully implemented this solution, “We have several similar projects underway across various countries which feature different scenarios and thus different requirements.” So, why has VIVOTEK decided to launch a camera that incorporates a people-counting solution? Gomez explains, “The company identified this growing need in the market. We had been asked about this feature and al-
ways depended on a third party – either for the recorder or the recording software. But this solution meant that accuracy rates sometimes fell below expectations, not due to the camera itself but to the software, because a number of the algorithm’s features failed to be as efficient as when carried out onboard the camera itself.” When it is the camera that performs the analytics, it relieves the server's
workload, which means that a more affordable and less robust server is needed – the processing is carried out at the ‘edge.’ As this is a customized solution, it does not require much output bandwidth. The camera regularly feeds the server with data, but at low bandwidth due to the low levels of data required to report counting. At the same time, as a matter of audit, images are recorded randomly to enable fine tuning.
Bosch Cameras Help Make Copper Mining in Chile More Secure and Productive Open pit mine in the Atacama Desert

How does Coldeco maintain the highest security in this harsh environment, and still keep its capital-intense operation running at maximum productivity, to compete in the global commodities market? A team of 300 geotechnical experts monitors the operations day and night in a nearby center, and takes decisions to safeguard personnel, machinery, and roads, while interrupting the mining as little as possible. How? Eleven Bosch cameras give the geotechnical team the observational insights they need to assure the smooth and safe operations of the mine. In every type of weather and lighting condition, even pitch-black night, the cameras installed on cabins around the open pit transmit data and video images to the monitoring center. Six Bosch MIC 412 and MIC 612 thermal cameras provide standard pictures as well as thermal pictures. The thermal cameras allow the experts to

visualize the internal geological conditions, like different temperatures. The temperature of the rock walls, for example, provides information on the strength of the rocks, and enables the expert team to identify in advance the rock faces which are in danger of collapsing. Another four Bosch MIC 550 cameras, and one MIC IP starlight 7000 HD camera with infrared illumination, provide further video imagery around the clock, even in complete darkness. Engineered to work in extreme conditions, the solid metal bodies with-
stand high-impact (up to IK10 rating) or continuous low-frequency vibration (IEC 60068 rating). The MIC camera withstands everything nature can throw at it, like temperatures from -40 degree Celsius to +60 degree Celsius, severe winds and 100 percent humidity, the robust design is rated to an industryleading IP68. The thermal, infrared, and starlight cameras are all part of the Bosch complete reporting system. This system forms the basis for managing the entire mine from capturing images
from the open pit, to transmitting the videos wirelessly via radio networks to the monitoring center. It enables the geotechnical experts to constantly view and monitor the operations in the pit, analyze the geological condition of the rocks, and take preventive security measures if necessary. The system also records the videos (via a Bosch DIVAR IP 7000 recording unit), allowing the monitoring center personnel to run research queries for historical data analysis and an improved understanding of mine conditions.
Satellite Tracking System Helps Deter South American Truck Hijackers
A
satellite-controlled tracking system developed by G4S is helping to combat truck hijackers stealing millions of dollars of goods across Latin America. Latest official figures show there are more than 2,000 hijackings a year in Argentina alone with estimated losses of US$250,000 per incident. The situation in Mexico and Brazil is even worse with an estimated 17,000 trucks robbed each year. Globally the crime is thought to cause US$30bn worth of losses each year. In a bid to deter the hijackers G4S Argentina is updating its SecureTrip system, developed over the past 10 years for a global consumer product company’s logistics operations in the country. The platform allows a G4S team based at the customer’s control room

Texas Health Huguley Hospital Continues 3xLOGIC Access Control Expansion Goal is 170+ doors under management for 1800 users

xLOGIC, Inc., has announced that Texas Health Huguley Hospital, located in Ft. Worth and a member of Adventist Health System, continues to roll out its 3xLOGIC Intelli-M Professional access control system to an ever larger number of doors and entrances. With 46 hospital campuses and more than 8,300 licensed beds in 10 states, Adventist Health System facilities incorporate the latest technological advancements and clinical research to serve more than 4.7 million patients annually. “We had experience with other access control systems,” said Stan Smith, Safety and Security Manager for Texas Health Huguley Hospital, “And those systems were highly proprietary. We liked the flexibility of 3xLOGIC’s open system and we liked the price point.” Texas Health Huguley Hospital has the access control system installed throughout their campus. Currently, about 75 doors are under management and Smith forecasts a total of 170 doors will be covered upon full deployment. “We can run the system to any location,
whether we’re networked or not,” Smith explained, “We’ve got another building a couple of miles away, and we program a module, take it over there, and our badges work in both locations.” The hospital just opened a new tower and the goal was to extend the 3xLOGIC system to the new building, starting with exterior doors and then moving inside. To date, Texas Health Huguley has been doing its own installation; however the new tower was installed using outside contractor help and then the hospital has taken over administration. John McCoy, Locksmith for the hospital, has been 3xLOGIC Access Control Certified and he is the main administrator for the system. Stan Smith has a similar level of user experience and there are also four other employees trained to do basic system functions. Texas Health Huguley Hospital has over 1500 employees plus 350 doctors, making for more than 1800 users managed by the 3xLOGIC system. All users are divided into about 50 groups, each group with separate, programmed access based on day, time, loSecurityLink India ■ 1 October 2016

ties but only for a set time period. Texas Health Huguley started installing two plus years ago and, “The system is working fine, just how we expected,” reported Smith. Thus far, Smith and his team are not as yet using the system’s alert feature but they’re working with IT to get alerts up and running. To date, there have been no major incidents for which staff needed
to access system data, however Smith reports that they do frequent the Events Log to confirm events and solve any issues that arise. “It’s nice, we can tell real quickly who is here and if they badged in.” Aside from system expansion, Smith and his team are looking forward to synching door open and close times with Outlook meeting schedules. “It’s
just safer and better when we don’t have lots of keys flying all around,” Smith commented, “And I like the lock-down feature, that’s great. Also, if one module goes down, one door goes down; not 4 doors or 16 doors like other systems.” Smith reports installation has been smooth so far, and the hospital is planning to eventually replace all existing keypads with badging.

playing field, a complex for smaller divisions of the club, and training facilities, the stadium is undeniably one of the most impressive structures in Lima, but its security system was woefully outdated consisting of only 16 analog cameras across the entire facility. In the face of increased vandalism and violent fan altercations, Alianza Lima began planning a security system overhaul to replace their outmoded analog system of only 16 cameras across the entire facility. The club selected the experienced Security industry business partnership of BTCO and Segurimax, leveraging technology from high-performance and cost-effective IDIS DirectIP™ solutions and facial recognition technology from Herta Security, an IDIS technology partner, to meet the needs of Estadio Alejandro Villanueva. The new solution comprises 50 IP cameras (8 of them with cutting edge

IDIS 4K resolution), powerful IDIS H.265 network video recorders (NVRs) to save network bandwidth and storage space, bundled with the IDIS Solution Suite video management system (VMS) to seamlessly and intuitively manage the security of the entire installation without the need of a PC. Additionally, three of the IDIS cameras are equipped with state-of-the-art Herta Security facial recognition analytics, which allows system operators to identify suspects registered in criminal databases. The full HD and 4K video resolution has empowered stadium security staff to much more effectively identify prob-
lems throughout the facility before they escalate, and the powerful and intuitive IDIS Solution Suite VMS allows them to operate the system more fluidly than ever before. The Alianza Lima soccer club expects to dramatically reduce vandalism and violent altercations both inside and outside the stadium thanks to the agile capabilities provided by IDIS technology. Alianza Lima General Manager Christian Bustos remarked, “We are very proud to highlight the opening of our powerfully modern new stadium control center, featuring 50 IDIS security cameras with Full HD
and 4K technology, complimented by facial recognition software from Herta Security. “The state of the art technology that powers our new control center is the security solution the Club, visiting teams, and the families who support us all deserve. All Peruvian stadiums should consider similar upgrades, and implement these kinds of modern security solutions to ensure the safety of all affiliated with Alianza Lima. With this upgrade we are taking a huge technological step in Alianza Lima, and hope to set a positive example for the entire athletics industry.”

Vanderbilt SMS Secures Historic Ripon College Streamlines Access, Integrates Multiple Systems
The customer
S
panning more than 250 acres with 26 buildings, Ripon College in Ripon, Wis., is home to more than 840 undergraduates. With approximately 92 percent of students residing on campus, and many of the school’s buildings built in the late 1800s, it was critical for Ripon to deploy a comprehensive safety and security program that streamlined access management across the expansive campus.
The challenge
R
ipon faced several challenges, including outdated and unsupported access software, poorly supported controllers and readers, and an ID card system that was tied to outdated dining software. Additionally, the security team at Ripon sought a system that would enable heightened awareness of building security needs, including the need to lock down different areas of the campus in the event of an emergency and lift lockdown once complete. Ripon also needed a system that could tightly integrate various software systems, including student information system (SIS), dining and human resource systems. Ripon required the utilization of some existing access control hardware, along with the investment in new credentials and card readers for some recently constructed buildings throughout the campus – all of which needed to be managed from a central system that could integrate into a video management system (VMS). Integrator LaForce Inc. was tasked with the challenge of managing a condensed schedule with various
summer conferences, upcoming school start dates and extensive cable installation in some buildings on the Ripon campus. LaForce has been a valued partner of Vanderbilt for more than a decade, working with various customers in a number of vertical markets. “While the access control system in place at Ripon was functional on a basic level, the college had outgrown its capabilities. In addition, they had trouble finding parts for it and were often scrambling to replace faulty pieces,” said Matt Zimmerman, Security Integration Project Manager, LaForce Inc., Ten of the 26 buildings on campus are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, so retrofitting doors with updated access hardware became a challenge. Ripon required a complete overhaul of its access control system, and worked with both LaForce Inc., and Vanderbilt to design, implement and test a lockdown solution.
The solution
R
ipon chose Vanderbilt after seeing the capabilities the company’s access control solutions provided, along with the company’s experience in the higher education market. Along with LaForce, updates to the Ripon College access control system took place campus-wide, with all 26 buildings seeing changes – and most with three to four doors in need of an update. The Vanderbilt Security Management System (SMS) delivers Ripon a SecurityLink India ■ 1 October 2016

powerful, single-source solution for integrating a facility’s access control technologies, digital video and alarm monitoring systems. The SMS is scalable, so Ripon can easily add readers and monitoring solutions to the system as they grow over time without the costly add-ons. From this single software platform, users can manage alarms, photo ID badging, visitor management, elevator control, offline and online locks, advanced reporting, and more.
The results
T
oday more than ever, access control systems are heavily tied in to IT infrastructure, and Ripon needed Vanderbilt to help tie in the university’s SIS, Jenzabar, to centrally manage permissions. Working with Vanderbilt VI Connect, customizable data management software, Ripon was able to take a single point of data entry on the Jenzabar software interface and have that information communicated to the Vanderbilt SMS, meal plan database, HR and other software platforms. Not only does this save the uni91

versity time, it also reduces human error, streamlining and maintaining updates. Going further, the Vanderbilt SMS was able to help school officials streamline access for events. Once an event is scheduled within the SMS system, the doors will automatically unlock for an event, and then relock once the event is over. The new system allows the Director of Security, Conference Services and the One Card Office to formulate and verify access files with campus constituencies,
as well as review security incidents. The One Card administrative assistant also is a main user of the system for card creation, and support on card-related and access issues. Rodman serves as the responsible party for troubleshooting any issues with the integration between the SIS and HR systems. Lockdown capabilities were also critical for the Ripon security team, and the university’s previous system did not deliver this functionality consistently.
The Vanderbilt SMS schedule doors based on different events or business rules, but also contains the necessary manual and automatic overrides that are critical to ensuring the safety and security of students. Going further, Ripon has engaged in critical partnerships with local police and firefighters who have cards so they can access or get around campus and override lockdowns, adding additional security and transparency in the event of an emergency situation.

Value Imaging works wherever goods are transported from A to B, from the baggage carousel at the airport to order picking in industrial companies, and in conventional logistics processes of all kinds. The core of this solution is a

combination of scanned data and video images. Cameras record the condition of the goods at all times and in detail, but it is their combination with scanned data
that first enables efficient search procedures. This video information is used for confirmation when communicating with customers and helping to clarify irregularities, and it is also used for analysis and optimization of processes.

equipped with extensive back-office tools to set detection zones for people and vehicles. Utilising VCA’s video analytics engine, which has been successfully deployed worldwide in over 350,000 video channels, Bridge is able to detect movement within very small areas of a video image. As such, it can provide central station operators with a powerful ‘exception’ reporting tool to help them identify suspicious activity and when appropriate, to despatch security guards or quickly report the incident to one of the emergency services. Filtering out false alarms: Bridge is designed to meet the challenge of detecting movement in outdoor locations as it will automatically adapt to varying light conditions and can easily be fine tuned to minimise false alarms due to, for example, rustling trees or wildlife. It will even continue to deliver a high level of performance when cameras may be swaying due to windy conditions.
In addition to capitalising on the benefits of analytics, the deep integration achieved means that operators using the Immix® platform can view live images of any incident and exercise control over PTZ cameras. 95
