WELCOME ADDRESS On behalf of the African Society of Cambridge University, the University of Cambridge, our sponsors and partners, we welcome you to the annual Africa Together Conference at the University of Cambridge. The African Society of Cambridge University is a student organisation with a mission to be the focal point for people who share an interest in and a commitment to Africa. Since the nineties, the African Society of Cambridge University has pioneered African students’ integration at the University of Cambridge by supporting African students through welfare and scholastic initiatives and promoting an African orientated agenda. Our core values are COMMUNALITY: our events aim to entertain and stimulate discourse on how Africans and persons of African descent can impact Africa’s development. These events celebrate our rich African heritage, cultures, and traditions; creating a home away from home. EXCELLENCE: We strive for excellence among our members through industry links and by providing meaningful resources that enhance their potential. RESILIENCE: We aim to sustain the spirit of resilience among our members by sharing African histories and their modern impact. On these values, ASCU organises its flagship Africa Together Conference that brings together diverse stakeholders to revitalise our commitment to the development of Africa. The eight Africa Together Conference theme is “Africa’s Re-emergence: Taking Back Control.” This year's conference aims to accelerate our African spirit of resilience and excellence to drive Africa’s selfsustaining agenda as empowered African youths. As we gather for this year’s Africa Together Conference to redefine Africa's development, it is also a unique opportunity to celebrate our achievements, identity, creativity and future. We hope you will find a personal takeaway from this commemoration that will stay with you and empower you for the next phase of your life as an African on the continent or in the diaspora. "Be the Ambassador of the renewed commitment to Africa’s Self-sustaining Agenda."
