The Design Thinking Process is a series of steps engineers follow to problems. With the help of Gerald, our awesome engineer, students will be introduced to a topic through a video and invited to join Gerald in his work to solve problems using the design thinking method, while completing a fun hands-on challenge. Students will go deeper with an informational text where they will learn new vocabulary and information on this topic and apply their newfound knowledge in countless ways!

Best Practices

Informational text material: This activity can be completed as a whole class, partner reading, or independent reading. Teachers can remove slides to shorten the assignment or add additional slides to go deeper on a topic. Use this material to se the foundation of learning for the class.

The Challenges: Three challenges are offered in this unit. Teachers can opt to do one or all challenges. Challenges can be completed in small groups, pairs, or individually. Teachers can allow students to choose their challenge, or assign to different challenges to groups of students.

Showcasing student work: At the end of each unit, a gallery walk is a great extension to celebrate and showcase student work.
