(Seguin) -- The Seguin ISD Board of Trustees has officially agreed to pursue the purchase of the Irma Lewis Seguin Outdoor Learning Center.

Trustees on Tuesday unanimously gave Seguin ISD Superintendent Dr. Matthew Gutierrez the authorization to begin negotiations toward the potential purchase of the outdoor learning center located at 1865 E US Highway 90.

Sean Hoffmann, the chief communications officer for the Seguin ISD, says the purchase of the non-profit center falls strongly in line with the district’s own outdoor education program.

“This is an idea that the district has had for a number of years. We have a robust outdoor education program within Seguin ISD. I think everybody in town knows that Pete Silvius has done a great job exposing children to kayaking on the river, biking, going to HEB camp in Leakey, ropes courses just a host of outdoor activities. Sheriff’s office celebrates TOP EMPLOYEES of 2022!

The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office celebrated it’s top employees of 2022 in December, and they are now being recognized for all their hard work and dedication. Winners included: Deputy of the Year – Jeff Casias, Sheriff’s Office Supervisor of the Year – Lt. Zachary McBride, Sheriff’s Office Support Staff of the Year –Angelica Garza, Investigator of the Year – Elaine Reamer, Telecommunicator of the Year – Tyra Schoeder, Detention Officer of the Year – Michael Brink, Detention Supervisor of the Year – Sgt. Abraham Haiyasoso, Detention Support Staff of the Year – Bob Gonzales and Chris Moore, and Sheriff’s Award to the Animal Control Division. Read the story on page 2.
