By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- You know longer have to wonder if you are using too much water or electricity. That's because the city of Seguin is keeping usage of utilities at the fingertips of its customers. J e n n i f e r Sourdellia, the public information officer for the city of Seguin, says utility customers who currently utilize the City of Seguin's online billing portal will now notice some new ways they can view their usage and receive notifications. She says the City Hub Customer Portal is a mobilefriendly, online utility portal that helps customers better manage their utility billing. She says using the online portal, customers can pay utility bills, manage multiple accounts, schedule payments, view account information and transaction history, monitor
water/electric consumption, and gain a better insight on how and when their utilities are being used. "So now, if you are utility customer and you've got electric or you've got water service with us or you have got both, you can monitor usage online throughout the month and then you can also set thresholds so if you want to set up for budgeting purposes -- if you want set up a certain threshold during the month, you can receive notification if those thresholds

SHS band director to retire By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- After four years of leading the Seguin High School Mighty Matador Band, Director Stan Mauldin is saying good-bye. That good-bye; however, will come at the end of the school year when Mauldin will officially retire from the marching field, and will leave to pick up the baton as the new executive director of the Phantom Regiment. The Phantom Regiment is a world class drum and bugle corps, headquartered in Rockford, Illinois.
Mauldin, who currently serves on the advisory board for the prestigious Midwest Clinic -- an international band, orchestra and music conference in Chicago -- says it was Sourdellia says this new during a recent visit up north, when online feature allows cus- he was approached about the opportomers to have a better handle tunity with Phantom. on what's going on in their home and eliminate folks from "So what happened with this is I'm being surprised when that util- walking down the exhibit hall at ity bill hits the mail. Director Stan Mauldin sent a text and then it happened real fast. The stuff that we have done here in Seguin -- the ability to raise money, the ability to organize events is what they are looking for so it's an administrative position -- I think which helps my end of it and my age and all that and the energy level and all that kind of stuff but yes, it's a world class drum and bugle corps and they hired me for the ability to raise money and organize events," said Mauldin. Now prior to entertaining the idea, Mauldin says the discussion of retirement was already on the table.
"Seguin is a special place. The facilities are fabulous. The people are extremely kind and sweet. We love these kids like they are our kids so thinking of that, then what do you say as you are leaving? You know seniors are going to leave anyway so that's a good 40 kids who are leaving out of the program as it is and I'm just graduating from the program as they are. Everybody at one point or another changes a job and we tend not to look as these things as jobs but we tend to look at them as opportunities to influence the future," said Mauldin. (Guadalupe County) -- A traffic stop on State Highway 46 has landed a pair of brothers behind bars. Guadalupe County Sheriff's officials say on Thursday, K-9 officer Rafael Pinilla and his K-9 partner "Lorby" conducted a traffic stop of a Chevrolet Tahoe for traffic offenses at the 1400 block of State Hwy 46 South. with the driver who did not have a current driver's license. Pinilla then saw indications of nervous behavior and asked the driver for consent to search the vehicle. Upon giving consent, Christopher admitted to having ice/methamphetamines on his person. It was then that the deputy seized 3.95 grams of suspected methamphetamine from Christopher's pocket. A search of the vehicle also revealed 29.50 grams of suspected methamphetamines on the passenger side floor board where Johnny Ray was sitting. All efforts resulted in Pinilla seizing a total of 33.45 grams of methamphetamine.
Both of the Gomez brothers were booked into the Guadalupe County Jail on charges of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance. The case will be forwarded to Guadalupe County Attorney's Office According to reports, Pinilla spoke for prosecution.

Mauldin accepts position with the Phantom Regiment MAULDIN, continued from page 1 Mauldin says Seguin will always be a special place and is already working to help with the transition for the students and for the program as a whole. He says his time at Seguin High School, no doubt, has been rewarding not only for himself but for every student that has come through the program. "I think we have done incredibly cool things. We have done Carnegie and California. We have taken kids to Indianapolis and Chicago. We've been all over and so I think it's been real fun to be
here. We love the community. We are a member of the community. We love being a part of the church community here and all that so we love Seguin. We are also looking forward to what the rest of our lives look like too," said Mauldin. Founded in 1956, "Phantom Regiment offers a world-class drum corps as its crown jewel. It also runs brass, percussion, color guard and leadership camps in several states, drum corps shows in Illinois and West Virginia, a high school marching band competition, a concert band festival, and the Rockford Rhythm percussion ensemble for youth in Rockford."

Timothy “Tim” King Hartzog, Sr., 72, of Seguin, TX left this earth on Saturday, January 25, 2020.
Beyond his outdoor endeavors, Tim loved his wife Lois of 49 years like no other. He could and would do anything to make sure she was cared for and truly was the most precious gift of his life.
