New Year’s Road rage shooting suspect now behind bars

(Seguin) – A man wanted in connection for a road rage shooting on New Year’s Day in Seguin has been apprehended in neighboring New Braunfels.

Seguin Police say the suspect, Shiye Fuentes, 19, was arrested on Friday without incident. Fuentes was reportedly hiding out at a motel in New Braunfels.

At 11 p.m., New Braunfels Police Department’s SWAT Team executed a search warrant, took Fuentes into custody without incident, and turned him over to the Seguin PD Case Unit.

Officials say Fuentes was also found with a handgun, several magazines, ammunition, and illegal narcotics in his hotel room.

According to Seguin PD, the road rage incident was reported at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1 in the 800 block of San Antonio Avenue. The incident, however, initially began on Huber Road.

PD officials say what started as a road rage confrontation quickly escalated into an argument between Fuentes and another driver. That argument allegedly resulted in Fuentes firing shots at the other vehicle. Officials say the victim, who was also from Seguin, was not injured by gunfire.

Fuentes was booked into the Guadalupe County Jail and is being held in lieu of a $175,000 bond. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

CCSCT honored as AACOG’s Non-Proft of the Year

(Seguin) -- The Community Council of SouthCentral Texas (CCSCT) is thrilled to announce its selection as the Alamo Area Council of Governments’ (AACOG) Non-Profit of the Year. This prestigious honor is shared with Reaching Maximum Independence Group, reflecting on the exceptional impact both organizations have made in the communities they serve.

Charissa was born in Plainview, Texas, which just like Seguin, was one of the original Texas Main Street communities when the program launched in 1981. As a child, she would move to California which is where she joined the film industry. She often came back “home” to Texas working her family’s cotton gin, cattle, and horse racing businesses –something she enjoyed.

While in California, Charissa would volunteer her time to strengthen her community by organizing fundraisers to support local businesses after the community

With a service footprint spanning 31 counties, CCSCT’s innovative approach to addressing community needs has made it a leader in community action.

This recognition by AACOG also celebrates the organization’s tireless work to tackle homelessness headon through tailored services and a steadfast commitment to building a network of support for the region’s most vulnerable populations. By leveraging partnerships with organizations like CVS Aetna, CCSCT officials say they continues to forge new paths toward stronger, more resilient communities.

The award was formally presented late last year at AACOG’s 50th Anniversary Awards Ceremony on in San Antonio.

“I was given the opportunity in 2018 to join the crew of ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ that was filming in Austin and I jumped at the chance to return to Texas. I was lucky to have been with that show for three years and that was when I made the decision that I was ‘HOME’ and

moved back to Texas,” said Charissa.

In her role as the Downtown Coordinator, Charissa will assist in planning and organizing all events in downtown Seguin, assist in initiating downtown policies, market downtown to potential businesses and visitors, and help complete the projects in the Downtown Master Plan and Seguin Main Street Work Plan.

“We are excited to bring Charissa on board with us,” said Kyle Kramm, Main Street & CVB Director, “Charissa is bringing great ideas and a strong work ethic to the team which will continue to build upon the successes of the department.”
