A Girl Scout Gift: Troop moms surprised with custom cookie earrings By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera

port their girls and it's a family effort and so to be recognized or to be given something like this is really special and really nice. It makes you want to keep on doing it every year," said Dwyer.

(Seguin) -- Helping their daughters sell Girl Scout cookies has never looked so good. That's because selling Girl Scout cookies in Seguin just became more fashionable. Now, we are not talking about those cute smocks and vests that the girls wear but instead a little something for all their moms.

Denise Crettenden, who serves as the community chair and lead volunteer for the local Girl Scouts, says not only are the earrings super cute but the moms in her troops are very deserving. She says to have Rivera donate the earrings for free is just an incredible gift of kindness.

This year's Girl Scout Cookie season in Seguin has apparently inspired one local resident to gift each Girl Scout mother with a set of free hand crafted earrings bearing the photos of all those yummy one time a year cookies. From Thin Mints to Samoas, the cookie print is already sparking conversations -- conversations that usually end up in the sale of an extra box or case of your favorite Girl Scout cookies. Ensuring that each local Girl Scout mom receives the hand crafted aromatherapy jewelry is Cristina Rivera, who operates Love in Every Piece, Daddy-Daughter Designs. Although she is unclear of how she reached the decision to hand craft nearly 100 sets of earrings, Rivera is for sure clear that her decision was the right one. "It was not premeditated actually. You know, it wasn't like I was thinking and thinking and thinking of what I could do. It was like honestly, God placed it on my heart. I need to do this and like my dad and I have been designing and creating earrings and when this came, it was like 'okay, I've got the material. I've got the stuff to do it' and then when

"They are adorable. I've never had anything like this so we appreciate it so much. You know the moms do spend a lot of time helping their girls through the cookie sales so this is a wonderful way to celebrate that and we really appreciate it," said Crettenden.

Girl Scout moms of Troop 4754 show off their new custom made aromatherapy cookie earrings presented to them for free by local business woman Cristina Rivera, center. Those on hand to receive their gifts include moms, left to right, Katie Edwards, Cecily Dwyer, Rivera, Denise Crettenden and Liz Gordon. Denise (Crettenden of Girl Scouts) told me how many troops there were, I was like 'okay, I don't have enough material but it's okay, I'll just order some more stuff and it's just been really joyful to work on," said Rivera. It might not also be surprising to learn that Rivera herself was once a Girl Scout. Rivera says not only is she supportive of the organization year round but believes in the program. Rivera says as the business name suggest, she crafts the earrings with her

father Hernan. She says "every single piece is cut by hand with scissors. No cutting machines are used." Rivera, who also specializes in aromatherapy essential oils, says the earrings also act as a diffuser -- soaking up the oils, allowing the scent of a pleasant aroma. Not only does she hope that the custom earrings will motivate moms during these final weeks of the cookie season but she is also hoping to spot moms sporting the look. "I just really wanted for the moms to

have something cute while they are promoting the fundraising for the cookies and stuff like that whether they are at work or at booths or wherever," said Rivera. Cecily Dwyer, who has a daughter in Girl Scout Troop 4754, couldn't help but be excited as she was handed her new pair of earrings. Dwyer says what an amazing gift. "What it means for me is people don't really realize, I guess, how much effort moms put into these things and to sup-

Rivera says this will most likely be the last time she is able to present such a gift to a community group and is just thankful that she had the means and the will to do it this season. To help distribute the earrings, Rivera has partnered with Southern Good in downtown Seguin. Girl Scout moms, registered with the local troops, are invited to stop by and pick up their earrings. They must be able to provide their name, child's name and troop number. Rivera has also been invited to participate in downtown's Third Thursday event at Southern Good. This will be an opportunity for local troop moms to stop by and meet her. The event is slated from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20th.
