Pair of decomposing bodies found Rolling the plans out in local home, investigation now underway by Seguin Police By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- A welfare check at a local home has resulted in the discovering of two decomposing bodies in Seguin. The bodies were found Monday afternoon in the 2000 block of Friesenhahn Road. The bodies were reportedly discovered after a neighbor contacted the Seguin Police Department. Seguin PD Investigator and Lt. Lance Wright says only a few details are being released as they look into not only identifying the victims but also working to determine how long they had been dead in the home. "Neighbors hadn't seen their neighbors in a while. (We) went out there. Officers noticed just from outside the house what they thought to be a body -- forced entry into the home and discovered another deceased person. Both bodies were badly decomposed and basically, that's really all we have at this point and time. It's still under investigation," said Wright. Wright says as of today, officials can't say

Kids bands, garage bands invited to compete in Battle of the Bands fundraiser "Then, the top three to four bands from each of these preliminaries go on to the grand finale at Gruene Hall. It's a great opportunity for these kids to perform at these venues that we have and they have an opportunity to win a cash prize of $1,000 and the winner is also going to get to play at the Schlitterbahn, Rock the Bahn Concert Series during the summertime. They'll get to go on air to sing their song. It's a neat opportunity," said Koehler.
By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- A local group will be rocking for kids later this month. Communities in Schools, which services Seguin ISD's high school, both middle schools, and a couple of elementary campuses, is looking to extend one of its annual preliminary event fundraisers in Seguin. Dawn Koehler, of Communities in Schools, says the non-profit organization which help meets the everyday needs of local students will be hosting its 18th annual Rock and Roll for Kids Battle of the Bands contest in Seguin.
Koehler says they are working with the former frontman for Cross Canadian Ragweed to make preparations for the event. She says they are looking for these special kids, who have special talents that will be on full display during the contest.
"We have been traditionally doing that event in New Braunfels for 17 years. So this is our 18th year but we want to be able to do events in the other communities that we serve not just New Braunfels so we came up with this idea to do Battle of the Bands where we could get kids involved in this process as well. So we are having these preliminary events for Rock and Roll for Kids and then the grand finale at Gruene Hall. But the first preliminary event is at the Warehouse Seguin, Feb. 23. It's a Sunday afternoon and what we are asking kids to do -who have a band like their garage band not the marching bands but kids who have put together their bands whether it be a rock band, country band, rap band, mariachi band -- whatever it might be - for them to come and compete. So, there's three preliminary events. One for Feb. 23 at Warehouse Seguin; one on March 22 at Krause's Cafe and one on March 29 at Blue Bonnet Palace," said Koehler. "So, the kids decide what venue they want to perform at. They don't perform at all three." Once at Gruene Hall, Koehler says these top bands, made up of students ages 12 to 18 years of age, will go on to perform publicly and to win some great prizes.

"We are working with the School of Rock, Cody Canada and his wife Shannon. They have a School of Rock and they are helping us with this too and what they have taught us about this process is a lot of kids who are in bands are a lot like our Communities in Schools kids," said Koehler. The first semifinals will again be held at the Warehouse in Seguin this Sunday Feb. 23; Bands may also compete on March 22 at Krause's Cafe or on March 29 at the Blue Bonnet Palace. Those kid garage bands looking to sign-up are asked to visit CIS-SCT.org. Bands will be asked to submit two songs plus a video. Communities In Schools of South Central Texas provides services at schools in Seguin, New Braunfels, Marion, Schertz, Cibolo, Luling and many more. It is said to work "directly inside schools, building relationships that empower students to succeed inside and outside the classroom."

City looking to fill vacancies on local boards, commissions "We are looking for citizens to serve on our Building & Standards Commission. The Seguin City Council is currently accepting applications from citizens interested in volunteering their service on one of the city's boards or commissions. Jennifer Sourdellia, the public information officer for the city, says applications are being accepted for the following boards and commissions.
"We are looking to fill those vacancies and this is a great opportunity for some of our citizens to serve on some of these boards or commissions as it allows them to have more of a voice and a representation in the local government so I think it's a great opportunity for someone who wants to get more involved with city government. The
interested individuals do not need to have a prior education or experience in city government to participate. All they need is -what we are looking for is someone who can offer ideas and suggestions and support and also someone who can commit to attending meetings regularly. That's one big thing. Time commitment can vary among some of these positions so interested applicants should know that serving the city will require regular availability so that we can have quorums and that's really important," said Sourdellia. Sourdellia says the boards and commissions are important to really represent the citizens. "It just allows our citizens to have a way to participate beyond just voting on the ballot," said Sourdellia. Residential requirements are as follows;
must reside in the Seguin limits for Building & Standards Commission; must be residents of Seguin or its Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) for the Commission on the Arts; must reside in Seguin city limits or Guadalupe County for the Library Board; must reside in Seguin, own property downtown or be employed in downtown Seguin for the Main Street Advisory Board and must reside in the Seguin city limits for the Zoning Board of Adjustments.
