It's Election Day Polls open across Guadalupe County By Darren Dunn Those local contested races are all on the Republican Primary ballot. Hayes says voters will have to decide which issues and candidates are most important to them, and then decide which party's ballot they would like to choose.
(Seguin) -- Today is election day across the Lone Star State. The Democratic and Republic primary elections are being held jointly today. Voters will be choosing the party nominees for a number of local, state and federal races. Guadalupe County Elections Administrator Lisa Hayes says voting has been made easy for those heading to the polls today. "I think the most important thing for them to know is that Guadalupe County is doing vote centers, which means that any registered voter in Guadalupe County can go to any one of our 34 election day, voting locations. They are not restricted to the precinct in which they are registered. So we have a list on our website of 34 voting locations for election day, and registered voters in Guadalupe County can go to any one of those Guadalupe County locations -- and that is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. We've done everything that we can to make it convenient for them to go to the location that's most convenient to their daily routine. I think it's really important that voters are aware of that, because it really can save them some time, and potentially some frustration if they were trying to go to a location that's completely on the other side of town," said Hayes.
and voters must choose which party they want to help select their nominees for the general election in November.

"Because this is a primary election, and it's a party primary election -- when the voters go to the polls, they are going to have to decide if they want a Democratic ballot or a Republican ballot. When they are checked in to vote, they are going to have to make that decision and let the poll worker know which ballot they would like to vote on. So it's very important that they know, preferably before they go, which party's ballot they are going to want. This is election, is the election that will determine which candidates, for each party, go on to November; and in November, all the different parties will be on the (same) ballot. So voters will have to decide for this election, which party ballot they want. I know sometimes that's a difficult decision, but that is a decision that contenders are spending a lot of time and has to be made if they want to vote in this money in Texas, all in an attempt to earn the primary election," said Hayes. right to become the Democratic nominee and to have a chance to face President Presidential elections generally produce a Trump in November. (Seguin) -- The candidates appearing on the ballot for a pair of countywide races are soliciating those last minute votes for today's Republican and Democractic primary elections. Appearing on the Republican ballot are the races for Guadalupe County Sheriff and 25th Judicial District Judge. In the race for Guadalupe County Sheriff, incumbent Arnold Zwicke says he looks forward to maintaining his duties and asks that voters consider the positive growth amd direction of the sheriff's office when making their decision. "I would ask the voters to look at the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office's track record. Over the last 19 years, (we've been) reducing crime while the population dramatically increases. I believe that accepting money from attorneys is a threat a fair and impartial judiciary. Finally, leadership: I led the effort for a new district court for Guadalupe County, to handle the growing population and the growing civil case loads. In addition, I have been endorsed by the Schertz Police Association, Sheriff Micah Harmon of Lavaca County, Sheriff Curly Weid of Colorado County, and constables in precincts one and two of Colorado County. Today is deadline to sign up for Citizens Fire Academy By Darren Dunn (Seguin) -- You're running out of time if you'd like to learn more about the work done by firefighters in the city of Seguin. The Seguin Fire/EMS Department is hosting its spring class of the Citizens Fire Academy. The class is a ten week program that gives interested citizens an inside look at the work done by firefighters each day.
the Seguin Fire Department. They'll be able to put on bunker gear. I believe they will even be able to see a Jaws of Life demonstration. It's going to be really interactive and interesting. It will give the community a lot of insight into what our firefighters do on a daily basis to keep our community safe
and protected," said Sourdellia. The free Citizens Fire Academy is open to anyone 18-year of age or older, who lives in Seguin. The program is held 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursdays from March 5 to May 14. The first class is this Thursday, and the application deadline is today. Applications can be
accessed online at www.seguintexas.gov, or they can be picked up at the Fire Administration Office, located inside the Municipal Court Building at 660 S. Hwy. 46. Two more spots need to be filled for the Citizen's Fire Academy class for it to be held this spring.
Seguin Public Information Officer Jennifer Sourdelia says this is an interactive course, with lots of hands on training.

Voters have until 7 p.m. to participate in GOP, Democratic primaries ELECTIONS, continued from page 1 The equipment is all newer and made to help improve the overall voting process. "The new equipment is what we call a hybrid system. It's very user-friendly. The voter will receive a ballot card when they check-in to vote. They'll take it over to what we call a ballot marking device. It's essentially a touchscreen (device) where they insert the card to activate their ballot. They vote their ballot on the screen, they review all their selections, and then when they are done they hit 'print card.' At that point, it's going to print all of their selections on that ballot card that they inserted, and it's going to give it back to them. That is their ballot. It's (also) another opportunity for them to review their choices. Then they are going to have to take that ballot and insert it into the ballot scanner. If they do not insert that ballot into that ballot scanner, before they leave the polls, then they have not
voted. It is not a receipt for voting. There is no statute in Texas law that allows for a receipt. Basically, your 'I Voted' sticker is your receipt. So we want them to insert their ballot into the ballot scanner, so that their ballot is counted. It's very important that voters realize that what is printed out and handed to them by the machine is not a receipt. It is their ballot. We want to make sure they understand that, so that they can complete the voting process," said Hayes.
The Precinct 3 seat on the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court is also up for grabs. Coronavirus Cases Continue To Pop Up Across US
Schumer Wants Full Coronavirus Vaccine Medicare Coverage
(Undated) -- More coronavirus cases are being reported across the U.S. On Sunday, health officials in Washington State confirmed a second person in the Seattle area had died of the disease. Several new cases of the disease were also announced in Washington State and around the country. New York State identified its first case of the respiratory illness in a woman who had recently traveled to Iran. In Florida, two people have presumptively tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the governor to declare a public health emergency. One of those people didn't catch for recent travel. Rhode Island also confirmed its first cases of the disease.
(New York, NY) -- Senator Chuck Schumer of New York is pushing to make the now-in-theworks coronavirus vaccination fully covered by Medicare, so it will be accessible to seniors who need it the most. The senator added that immunization coverage varies by vaccine under current Medicare rule and he wants to add a special provision into the coronavirus funding deal that ensures those most susceptible, seniors, can get the vaccine free.
Coronavirus Death Toll Hits 3000 (Undated) -- The death toll from the coronavirus is reaching a grim milestone. Over threethousand people have now died from the respiratory illness. The vast majority of those deaths have been in mainland China. This weekend, the U.S. recorded its first deaths from the coronavirus. Both were in Washington State, where officials are treating over ten cases of the disease. Nearly 90-thousand people around the world have been infected with the coronavirus.
Advocacy Group Asks NCAA To Play (Undated) -- If it were up to one advocacy group, March Madness would be a little less crazy. The National College Players Association has called on the NCAA to close its doors to fans to prevent the potential spread of the coronavirus as fears mount. The move wouldn't be unprecedented, as sports around the world have been played in empty stadiums due to the threat of fan violence or as acts of punishment. The men's NCAA basketball tournament First Four tips off on March 17th while the women start March 20th.
