Coronavirus officially arrives in Guadalupe County Officials say first local case confirmed on Friday By Darren Dunn and Linda Duncan (Seguin) -- Those in the local medical community have suspected for some time now that we would soon have a confirmed case of the coronavirus in Guadalupe County. It turns out that they were right, and the first case was reported on Friday. Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher says a local patient is now being treated for the COVID-19 illness. "Guadalupe County was contacted by the (Texas) Department of State Health Services and they gave us the information that there's confirmation of the first positive test of COVID-19 in Guadalupe County. Of course like a lot of folks, we had a lot of questions surrounding the circumstances of that case, but they don't have all the information, and they aren't allowed to give out some of the information they do have. What we do know about the case, that got confirmed (Friday), was that it was related to travel. It was not a community transmission type case. We don't know the age, whether that individual is male or female, (or) exactly where travel was. We do know; however, that the state has looked into the case. They are monitoring the situation and the individual. And that they did contact tracing, meaning that they went and investigated the situation and asked who that individual had been in contact with and where they had gone. So that's the information that they gave us, and those generalities are really all that we have right now," said Kutscher. Judge Kutscher says now that a case has been confirmed, the county has taken additional steps to make sure that they keep the community safe.

"We have also signed a disaster declaration, declaring Guadalupe County a public health emergency and disaster county. That is the document that gives us the ability as a county to be able to receive additional state and federal resources, and possible reimbursement of dollars that we spend on addressing this virus and this issue," said Kutscher.
