A picture is worth Seguin Mayor encourages folks to stay home, limit trips to stores a thousand words By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera
(Seguin) -- Seguin Mayor Don Keil wants you to scale back your trips to the local stores in hopes of better defending the health of citizens during this COVID-19 pandemic. Keil says his message today comes after folks are reporting seeing more than just people at the stores but folks shopping as a family or in a large group. "It started to peak this weekend in particular. I think several of the retail establishments, the large big box stores in town that are essential are doing the best they can to try to control the situations within the stores but even with what they try tends to get overwhelmed by some people who maybe are not all that thoughtful in the way they are of behaving themselves in these stores. They are not distancing themselves and they are bringing family members instead of just shopping one at a time which I think is so important. They need to understand, this is not a family outing when you go to one of these places. You are in there trying to perform an essential service for your family in getting food, going and getting certain repair items you need to keep your house going. It's not an excuse to go out and recreate with your family and I think that's kind of a reoccurring thing that I've heard from a lot from certain citizens (who) have observed that over the past several days," said Keil.
Even when accepting a community donation, the Seguin Police Department knows the importance of social distancing. Publicly thanking Core Veterinary Compounding Pharmacy for its donation of hand sanitizer are officers with the Seguin PD. Seguin Mayor Don Keil is calling for more social distancing especially at local stores. Courtesy photo.
Keil says he understands there will always be special circumstances in certain situations. However, he says if more people better plan for their trip to the store, then the better off we will all be. "Hopefully KWED will be of help in order to get that message out that people need to just go if they can

possibly. I understand some people have a toddler or a very young child that they can't leave and they have to take them, I understand that. But there are instances where they are bringing three and four and five people -- the family, the husband and wife shopping together with all the kids, that is something that people really need to take care and look at that situation and not let that happen. Just send one person to the store if you can possibly do that. It will make it much safer for every body and really a lot easier for the public in general if that happens," said Keil. Keil says social distancing is the major key to slowing the spread of this virus. He says many would argue the city's decision to not order a shelter in place mandate. However, he says the practices in helping curb this pandemic are all the same no matter what decision is made and should already be in place within our own personal lives.
"The shelter in place thing or I guess the lock down of these terms that they use are really just semantics. We have done so many things that are very restrictive already that really make the city virtually a shelter in place. Those are just things that people have used to describe what they are doing. They are really not official terms but if you look at what we do, you look around the city, there's really no place to go. There's nothing to do. Apart from going to these essential places, if you have a job at one of these companies or if you are at a restaurant and dealing with take-out and things like that, people have to get out and go to these work areas but at the same time, if you can get out, walk around, stay in public, soak up some sunshine or get out and do things -- as long as you are apart from somebody, I think that that is very very important to do that," said Keil. Man shot during shootout with Guadalupe County Sheriff's Deputies remains in hospital By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Guadalupe County) -- A man shot on Tuesday by a pair of Guadalupe County Sheriff's Deputies is in stable condition at an area hospital. The man was shot during an attempt to serve him a warrant Tuesday afternoon. Investigators say the deputies shot the man three times after he allegedly fired a gun at them while on property in the 3000 block of Weil Road. The suspect was transported and is being treated at San Antonio Military Medical Center. According to a statement released by the sheriff's office, the shooting appears to have stemmed from an earlier incident in which the man had run away from Guadalupe County Precinct 4 Constable Harvey Faulkner and Marion Police Department officers.
The officers were apparently responding to a call earlier that morning for a suspicious person. Reports say the caller noted two people who were in the area. Upon arrival, one of the men, who later became the victim of the shooting, fled on foot. Despite a thorough search of the area, the man was not found. The unidentified male was later spotted just before 4 p.m. on Weil Road where gunfire was exchanged with Guadalupe County sheriff's deputies. The 25-year-old suspect was reportedly struck three times. No Guadalupe County Sheriff's deputies were injured during the incident; however, officials say both deputies involved have been placed on restricted duty. The investigation has now been turned over to the Texas Rangers.
Burglary suspects apprehended following area break-in Dominick Torres, 20, and Rangel knew each other and that they were actively burglarizing the business when interrupted by Deputy Johnson.
By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Guadalupe County) -- An area couple is behind bars on charges of burglary. Guadalupe County Sheriff's Investigators say at around 3:35 a.m. Tuesday, Deputy Curtis Johnson, while on patrol in the 15000 block of State Highway 123 North, observed a subject run from behind the Texaco Convenience Store at the intersection of Ridge Drive and 123 North. When the deputy turned his vehicle around to investigate, he observed a suspicious vehicle parked on a private lane behind the business. Upon making contact with the vehicle, he found it occupied by a female identified as Felicia Rangel, 19. He also observed several burglary tools on the floorboard of the vehicle. Investigators say several deputies arrived to conduct a security check of the business. Deputies found a

broken window in the back of the business. They say all evidence pointed to an apparent burglary. While the scene was being processed by deputies, a call came in for a suspicious person walking on State Highway 123 North and Braune Road. A male was located walking along the roadway who matched the description of the subject Deputy Johnson had seen running from the business. It was determined that the male suspect, identified as
Sheriff's officials say they commend Deputy Johnson for his vigilance and hard work during this incident. They say the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to keeping our community and businesses safe from damage and theft by actively patrolling and checking neighborhoods and businesses at all hours. They say they also appreciate the assistance from the public in reporting suspicious vehicles or activity. Calls can be made 24 hours a day by contacting the sheriff's office at 830-379-1224 or by dialing 9-1-1.

Health officials are warning that cross contamination of households are at even high risk when someone who does not live in your home comes over. They say unfortunately, this could mean grandparents,
The mayor says the city is keeping a close eye on the residents and is monitoring the situation every day. He says families should take the warning serious and again, not go out unless it is important.
