(Seguin) – A local artist is not only putting a little color into our lives but is working to bring out the creative gene in all of us. With most of us quarantined inside our homes, local businesswoman and artist Lori Dimicelli has chosen to give her time by sharing some fun and simple ways of filling our days with art. Guadalupe County discusses COVID-19 questions, provides update during recent meeting 15 days to see a peak of cases so one of the things that I guess to talk about is the social distancing and they are expecting that people adhere to the guidelines that we should start to see this thing kind of start to plateau a little bit within the next two to three weeks. So, hopefully, that's the case. It's the CDC and DHS's prediction. That's not my prediction. That's just what came off of their website. Hopefully, that's the truth and about in a month, we can be back to our regular day life," said Pinder.
By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) – Guadalupe County officials continue to filter through all the questions that folks may still have in regards to COVID-19 and its testing. During this week’s Guadalupe County Commissioners Court meeting, Patrick Pinder, the emergency management coordinator, stated that health officials were keeping a close on these numbers these next couple of weeks. "Some of the models that the CDC is predicting in the U.S. in nine to 10 days, they are talking about seeing a peak in cases of deaths. In Texas, they are expecting 13 to
but isn't -- a lot of those questions that certainly I don't have (the answers) but I don't know if you have heard anything either," said Kutscher. Pinder says he is not going to speculate on what it could or couldn’t be but knows that doctors are doing their best. "I don't really have the statistics on that. I have heard from some of the physicians that I have talked to is they are testing for the flu. They are testing for COVID. Both tests are coming back negative and they really don't know what kind of medical condition Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher they have. So that's still one of the things also passed along a question that has been that is unknown. Obviously allergies, it brought up by the public. Kutscher asked could be anything,” said Pinder. Pinder whether there was information on any other types of illnesses that could also Pinder says he too has seen a lot of share some of the same symptoms as the questions from folks who have posted virus. similar comments on social media sites. The bottom line, he says, is that there is "I have received specific to the testing, they strict criteria that a patient must meet before are saying that there is less than 10 percent being scheduled for testing. of the folks who are getting tested or testing positive for COVID but they are saying "One thing that I'm seeing a lot on the social what do the other 90 percent of people media site is people are saying they are have? They have symptoms and they are to going to the doctors' offices. They are a level where a doctor feels like they need showing the symptoms but they are not to be tested yet they test negative -- is it being tested. These doctors are testing on early on and it's not identifiable -- do they certain criteria outlined by state health have something else that looks like COVID services so if you meet that criteria then you
are getting tested. If you don't' meet that criteria, they aren't testing these people. So unfortunately, some people are going to the doctor sick but they don't meet the certain criteria outlined by the department of state health services and so they are not being tested. I think that's one of the things that also are miscued in the numbers a little bit because there are more people that are probably sick but they are just not being tested and we are not getting those numbers. That's unfortunate but that's one of the things that people are seeing out there," said PInder. Pinder says the number of positive COVD19 cases continues to be released daily by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Any updates to those cases are also posted and made available by clicking the bottom of the front page of the Seguin Daily News The Seguin Daily News can be found at SeguinToday.com.
Residents encouraged to walk away an artist following COVID-19 pandemic ARTDEMOS4U, continued from page 1 "I'm telling you as designers and artists, it is like the greatest joy to be able to share and infuse some life and fun into people and I'm telling you, we are having more fun doing this than we've had in a very very long time and we even said to each other, if not a single person looks at it and it's just our family members, it is so worth doing because it is just a true joy to feel a part of being able to help and in our way, that is through creative juices of letting you all experience it,"said Dimicelli. Dimicelli says it’s only been about a week since they first uploaded their first character demo. Since then, she says she's already seeing the love.
"I've been getting all kinds of different texts and pictures being sent to me of people with their kids in front of their computer or their television screen and then them drawing and this is the card that I've made to send out. It's just really great to see people having fun and many of those people have stated that they've never picked up or even ever thought about doing anything like that and they are absolutely loving it," said Dimicelli. Those following the art lessons are reminded that any type of art supplies can be, for the most part, substituted with each demo. Again the character drawings are free and are available on YouTube at Artdemos4U.

City leaders applaud residents for keeping safe, encourage around the clock social distancing By Darren Dunn
virus. He says it's important for you to be patient and be respectful of others when you go out.
(Seguin) -- The Seguin City Council on Tuesday night got an update on the city's latest efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor Don Keil began the presentation by thanking the citizens of Seguin for being mostly compliant with the Stay Home, Stay Safe order issued last week by Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher. Mayor Keil says even before that order was issued, he noticed people were already starting to do what they could to stay home. He says there are always exceptions, but largely, residents have been complying with the requests. "I want to thank all the citizens who have done such a great job of complying with our separation guidelines and I must say that it is working. So far, only six cases have been pronounced in the city of Seguin. We are lucky. None of them were hospitalized so thankfully GRMC has not been stressed beyond its limits so that is one of the I think the real biggest concerns that we all had had was the overwhelmingly of our medical facilities but that can change but so far so good and I think that's because we have had such great practice and compliance by the people live here," said Keil. Keil not only thanked the citizens, but

he also recognized those essential workers across the city, who have to show up for shifts to provide the necessary goods and services for those who are required to stay home. "The truck drivers and all the people that are working the stores, they save people from all over the community everyday and take that risk to keep us fed and to keep us protected. So many many thanks to them and that includes the police and the fire departments and the medical staffs and all those working on the essential retail establishments -- all the truckers and their repairers and

maintenance people who have to keep everything working and keep it going and keep it safe," said Keil. City Manager Steve Parker walked the council through the timeline that includes the spike in COVID-19 cases across the state. Parker says he wants everyone to continue to comply with the stay at home and social distancing requirements. He says they have had complaints about people turning shopping trips into family outings, and also people who are not keeping a safe distance from others. He says these practices are essential to helping curb the spread of the
"Practice your social distancing. Do not get right up on people when you are waiting at the checkout lines, when you are waiting to get an item off the shelf. Those are some of the things. Be patient and considerate to others. You may not realize that you have the COVID-19 or coronavirus and you could be a carrier feeling very healthy and you could be breathing on somebody by reaching for an item. Let them get their item and then you go in and get your item after that. Keep a safe distance. It is very easily for somebody to be sitting there waiting to figure out which brand of tomato sauce they want and you know which one you want and try to reach around them. Please take your time. Be patient. Consider that person as your grandmother and you don't want to spread that disease to them. I really do beg of you because I see it all the time when I'm out in the community so be very patient," said Parker. The COVID-19 update was given as part of the council's regular meeting at Seguin City Hall. Three members of the council attended the meeting via video-conference, so that there would be adequate space for the others to spread out and keep a safe distance from one another during the meeting.

Home and Garden &Garden Home Clara Mae Marcotte is a Texas Master Gardener with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. If you have a question to be answered, call the Master Gardeners at 830-379-1972 or leave a message to be answered. The website is The Master Gardener research library is open Wednesdays from 1 to 4, at 210 East Live Oak Street in Seguin. Q: I am spending a lot of time in my garden during these trying times. What is the most important job I should be doing? A: In my yard, at least, pulling weeds is the most important because we need to keep the weeds from going to seed. If they are in the lawn, you can mow. After that lovely rain we had, weeds are easily pulled in my heavily mulched flower bed. However, I had completely ignored my milkweed bed and am spending several days getting it into shape. Another job is fertilizing your vegetable plants and keeping pests out of the vegetable garden. In early and mid-April, Doug Welsh in his Texas Garden Almanac suggests sowing a second and third planting of beans. If your fruit trees have set, thin the branches that have too many. Many houseplants can now be moved on the porch for the summer. My plumaria which I moved outside from my garage are already starting to leaf out. When your annuals, perennials, and roses have dead blossoms, remove them so the plant will continue blooming. If you had trees or shrubs that bloomed this spring, prune them if they need it. By now, all of your shrubs should have been pruned. Mine have (except for one rose that I keep forgetting about until I walk around the house and see it still unpruned).
Q: What herbs can we plant now? A: Check your stored seed to see what you have available. Basil does really well here. I planted a pot by my front door and another pot by my tomatoes. Basil is one of the easiest to grow, and likes full sun. I found a couple of packets of chives in my seed box. This is another herb for full sun or partial shade. Plus it makes a very pretty plant. My dill did not come up this year. I put in more seeds yesterday, but it may be too late. Mexican mint marigold (Tagetes lucida) is a lovely little plant (24 inches tall, 18 inches wide) with yellow flowers and leaves that taste like licorice. Another nice plant is Mexican oregano (24 tall and 36 inches wide) with pink flowers. Other easy growing herbs are the different types of mint, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, sweet bay laurel and thyme. Since everyone is doing more cooking right now, I will pass along some conversions: one tablespoon of fresh herbs equals one teaspoon of crumbled dry herbs, or one-fourth to one-half teaspoon of ground herbs. Some herbs can be frozen: basil, chives, dill and mint. In the past, I have frozen fresh washed mint in ice cubes for my iced tea.
Q: How do I get rid of grass burs and bur clover? A: You need to be very proactive in pulling up these plants. After starting years ago with a back yard full of grass burs, I now have none. But this means every day checking and pulling. I am not so good with the bur clover. In fact, it is bad this year. However, pulling the plant before too many seeds ripen makes a big difference eventually. On the plus side, bur clover is a nitrogen fixer and has been used as a forage crop in the Mediterranean.
