ACLU Sues to Block Missouri From Restricting Gender-Affirming Care for Adults (Jefferson City, MO) -- The ACLU has gone to court to stop the state of Missouri from becoming the first state to restrict genderaffirming care for adults. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s executive order placing barriers to gender-affirming healthcare for minors and adults is set to go into effect Thursday. Bailey -- a Republican -- says such healthcare is experimental, though the American Medical Association and other leading medical groups say it’s proven safe and effective. The ACLU contends Bailey has no authority to regulate gender-affirming care.
Researchers Look For Link Between COVID Vax And Tinnitus (Undated) -- Researchers are trying to figure out if there’s a link between the COVID vaccine and ringing in the ears. The sensation, called tinnitus, has been reported to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by more than 16-thousand people after getting the shot. That’s according to the CDC’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System. It’s also been reported as a symptom of long COVID, possibly a result of the body’s immune system trying to fight an illness. There’s been no direct link established so far, but scientists say they are taking the reports seriously.
Study Links French Fries And Mental Health Issues
(China) -- A new study links French fries to depression and anxiety. A research team in China found that eating fried foods frequently, especially fried potatoes, is linked with a 12-percent higher risk of anxiety and seven-percent higher in depression than those who don’t eat fried foods. It’s most pronounced in younger men. But nutrition experts said the study is preliminary and it’s not clear whether fried foods cause mental health issues, or those who are anxious or depressed tend to turn towards those foods.
