Seguin ISD teachers spent last week clearing out students’ desks for today’s special curbside pick up of personal belongings. A student’s personal items may be picked up today at Ball ECC, all elementary campuses, and at Barnes Middle School. This will be the opportunity for students to also return their library books. School officials ask that you stop by your child’s respective campus at the designated times. Those times are being scheduled according to the letter of the child’s last name. Students should have received an email or text from their teacher notifying them of that schedule. Those unable to make it to their designated time are welcome to stop by from 5 to 6 p.m. On May 11, students at A.J. Briesemeister Middle School may also stop by the campus to pick up personal belongings as well as to return any library books. Photo by Deborah Rideaux.

Marion ISD salutes its graduates, announces graduation plans and granted us permission to go for forward the project and to pretty much leave it up for the month of May. So, we just thought this would be a great way for the community to see and remember our seniors," said Lindholm. Lindholm says the photos that align the highway have already gotten plenty of attention and hopes that each student feels the love. "There are 106 graduates so we have a sign kind of in the middle that says Class of 2020 and 53 seniors on each side and kind of angled so whichever way you are coming down San Antonio Street which is the main strip in Marion, you can kind of see them but yet still take pictures with them and so it's right there across from Penshorn (Meat Market) and Gg's (Corner CafĂŠ) and a lot of the main strip, if you will, of Marion. So we wanted to put it there so as many people as possible are able to see it and enjoy it and like I said, tell the kids congratulations and hopefully, keep a smile on their face because it's been tough," said Lindholm.
By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Marion) --- The Marion ISD has not only secured its graduation plans but it has also extended a special gift to its high school seniors -- a gift that stretches along the main road of its small community. Marion ISD Superintendent Kelly Lindholm says these last couple of months have no doubt been difficult for their seniors. She says that's how the idea for planting posters of each of their seniors along a city roadway came to be. Lindholm says she and Marion High School Principal Stacia Snyder thought with everything that was going on during this COVID-19 pandemic, the gesture to display each seniors photo so that everyone could see them was the least that they could do.
"We were really kind of concerned that our seniors were feeling down and thinking they had missed out on so much so we talked about well let's create a new tradition for them. What could we do to make them feel so special. Marion is such a small community and very tight and most people come out for graduation and support the seniors and support scholarships and all sorts of things for our seniors so we kind of thought about -- we have a poster machine. We have a laminator. We have people that would be willing to come out and do this so we just kind of launched the idea of getting all the senior pictures and creating the posters. I went to the city and they were gracious enough to actually call a special meeting last week so that we could have permission because they have a sign ordinance and so I needed to get permission from the city and they actually held a meeting
Lindholm says whether this becomes a tradition is still unknown. What she does know, however, is that this specific group of seniors, will always be remembered for its strength and endurance and as the class that sacrificed it all. "I can see the request coming for future years. It's been a hit today! said Lindholm. "It may be a new tradition. We'll have to see but it definitely born out of the idea of just wanting to do something special for them and realizing that this has been a difficult way to spend the last couple of months of your high school career," said Lindholm. Not only has the school district managed to show its support to its seniors but it has also been able to perhaps lessen the stress of their seniors by nailing down a schedule for graduation.
Lindholm says seniors and their families last week were notified of its plan -- a plan that has been carefully considered. "We have actually gone ahead and secured Goldie Harris gym for June 20 and then also for July 25 and our thought process being that you know we traditionally have graduation and every class gets to vote where they would like to have it and they voted for Trinity University in San Antonio but that is not a possibility right now. They are not even willing to do any bookings looking forward and so in talking to the superintendents at Seguin and Navarro in talking about graduation that Navarro for many years held graduation at Goldie Harris gym so the Seguin ISD was very gracious in working with us and actually allowed us to secure two possible dates, " Lindholm. Now should these two summer dates not work out, then the plan, according to Lindholm, will still be to recognize the hard work and dedication of this senior class even if by means of technology. "So our thought process was if we are able to gather in person June 20, we would do it then and attempt to have a more traditional in person graduation. If not, then we've secured that second date the last weekend in July to try again and then of course if by that time, we are not able to do so, then we would have to go ahead and do a virtual. We are going to put the virtual together so that we have it so if we need it with the thought process that if we get to do an in person graduation, then we will still be able to perhaps share that with the seniors as a nice keepsake," said Lindholm. Marion ISD officials say they thank everyone who helped to make the posters and who cleared the way so that they could be planted along the roadway. They also thank those who have come together to layout a graduation plan for this very deserving group of seniors.

Little League International cancels 2020 World Series and regional tournaments (Williamsport, Pa.) - Little League International has canceled its seven World Series tournaments and their respective regional qualifying tournaments for the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization made the decision after assessing the impact of the pandemic on 6,500 community-based Little League programs in 84 contriues, and based on the direction of government and public health authories, and in consultation with medical professionals and Little League International's Board of Directors.
The Seguin All-Stars represented the Southwest Region at the 2015 Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon.
Little League International President and CEO Stephen D. Keener gives a detailed explanation of the decision in a video statement from Williamsport, Pa.
The video, along with the announcement of the cancellation, is available online at https://www.littleleague.org/news /little-league-cancels-2020world-series-and-regiontournaments/. "After consultation with the Secretary of Health here in Pennsylvania, certainly our governer, and public health officials in about 10 or 12 states where we play regional qualifying tournaments and our six additional World Series, we've come to the conclusion based on the recommendations and guidance from them, that it would be virtually impossible for us to conduct regional and World Series tournaments in the summer of 2020," Keener said.

This summer marks the first time the Little League World Series has been cancelled in the event's history, dating back to 1947. The organization had planned to celebrate the 75th Little League World Series next year, but those festivities have been pushed back to 2022. In his video statement, Keener adds that considerations in this year's cancellations extend beyond U.S. borders. "What we've learned from the federal officials is that many of the travel restrictions that are in place will have signifiant impact on our ability to have teams from other countries participate in qualifying tournaments, and ultimately to come to the United States for a World Series tournament based on immigration complexities that will be in place certainly this summer," Keener said. Keener also notes the testing and mitigation protocols that would need to be in place at public events should an individual participating or attending an event be
