Families, businesses, community encouraged to salute a 2020 graduate (Seguin) -- Are you looking for a way to salute your special graduate. The KWED Seguin Daily News is now offering a special salute to graduates. General Manager Darren Dunn says these are special individualized salutes that will be sold to recognize local and area students. Dunn says they were looking for a way to help families honor students who are moving on to the next phase of life. “A lot of us are worried about whether or not we are doing enough to recognize the Class of 2020. These kids have worked very hard. They are a talented group but they have found themselves about to graduate in the middle of a global pandemic and that has brought a halt to all of the things that normally take place during this time of the year. So, that’s one of the reasons why we decided you know, what’s another way that we can allow people to make this an extra special time for these students so we are allowing you to salute the graduates of 2020. You can salute an individual graduate. You can salute an entire graduating class at one of the high schools or maybe at Texas Lutheran – anything you want to do. You can do that individually as a business, as an organization, a church maybe, a family can do that – whatever you want to do.
ceremonies to be postponed. Most schools have tentatively planned something for later this summer. Dunn says the salutes will give the community yet another opportunity to recognize these well deserving students, who have largely missed out on a big rite of passage. “The good news here is we’ve given you lots of opportunities to salute your senior. You can get your salute into the Seguin Daily News for as little as $55. It can go as high as $145 if you want a fullpage salute to them. Whatever you want to do, you decide it but it’s just another way for you to salute the Class of 2020 whether it’s over at Seguin High School or Navarro or Marion or Lifegate, even TLU. Whatever you want to do to recognize the Class of 2020, we can help you do that and all you have to do is give us a call and we’ll make sure that we get something special in the Daily News. The good news is that the senior salutes will run every day from now until June 30 in our We are going to allow you to do that through our digital Seguin digital Seguin Daily News so all you have to do is get that order Daily News. All of the salutes will be in the Daily News online in. Guadalupe County’s top law officer does not forget fallen officers, reminds community of its history By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera (Seguin) -- Not even a pandemic will stand in the way of Guadalupe County’s remembrance of its fallen officers. Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke on Friday led the way in honoring the officers who names are forever marked on a monument located on the northeast end of the Guadalupe C o u n t y Courthouse. “With the pandemic going on, we understand that but please understand we deal with this pandemic every day. We are exposed to it every day and I wrestled with it. We passed up starting last month – we passed up our telecommunicator’s week, our animal control week – we had our nurse’s week, our correction officers (week) and law enforcement (week) and these guys gave their lives -- that stone there for Guadalupe County and 18 gave their lives for the United States along with 135 for the United States, 18 of those in Texas and I wrestled with it and said we shouldn’t do it but by golly, I think it’s the right thing to do,” said Zwicke. Zwicke says Friday’s gathering which included a wreath laying at the monument is Guadalupe County’s public commitment to those who lost their lives. Zwicke says it
illustrates that their service in law enforcement will not be forgotten and that officers today “will pick up where they left off.” “The men that are listed on this memorial dedicated their lives to protect Guadalupe County and it’s only fitting that we honor them. You know when I took office 20 years ago, I was asked has Guadalupe County ever lost an officer and the only ones that I knew was Deputy Ross and Deputy Kincaid from Goliad that were from part of our narcotics task force. I knew of Joe Carrillo. I didn’t know of the others and as we went through with research and help from several citizens outside the county, we were able to identify the other three. Time moves on and history gets lost and I didn’t want this to be lost. I wanted to make sure this was done before I left and I hope and pray that we never add another name to that wall,” said Zwicke. Last week at the National Law Enforcement Memorial, 307 names were added to the wall. 135 of those officers were killed in the line of duty. Texas last year led the nation with 18 officers killed in the line of duty.

Honorees selected First Team Academic All-District® advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 8-11.
Raines also plays in the Bulldog outfield. When not pitching, she starts in center field. She is a .392 career hitter with 13 doubles, five triples, one home run, 30 RBI, 15 stolen bases, and an on-base percentage of .477.

Trump Says He's Taking Anti-Malaria Drug To Prevent Coronavirus
Navajo Nation Now Has Highest COVID-19 Infection Rate
(Washington, DC) -- President Trump claims he has been taking an anti-malaria drug for about a week-and-a-half. Trump has long-promoted the use of Hydroxychloroquine [[ hi-drox-ah-CHLORah-queen ]] as a drug that he thinks can prevent or treat the coronavirus. He told reporters, "I'm still here." Pressed about evidence that the drug is effective in preventing or treating the coronavirus, Trump said he has received a lot of positive calls about it. He also noted that he is tested regularly for the coronavirus and continues to test negative.
(Tuba City, AZ) -- The Navajo Nation now has the highest COVID-19 infection rate, surpassing New York. They have more than two-thousand cases per 100-thousand people and 140 deaths for the entire nation. Despite their strict stay-at-home order that keeps everyone housebound unless there's an emergency, cases continue to rise. Experts say a big reason for the spread of the virus within the Navajo Nation is multiple generations living under one roof. They predict the nation's coronavirus numbers to be at their peak now.
Trump Threatens To Permanently Cut Funding To WHO (Washington, DC) -- President Trump is threatening to permanently cut U.S. funding to the World Health Organization over the coronavirus response. On Twitter, Trump showed off a letter detailing what he claims were failures of the United Nations health organization to adequately respond to the respiratory illness as it spread from China to the rest of the world. He also blames the W-H-O for being too cozy with China. Trump demanded the organization make substantive reforms within a month or his freeze in U.S. funding would become permanent. He even suggested he'd pull the U.S. out of the W-H-O altogether.
Trump Cites "Tremendous Progress" On Coronavirus Front (Washington, DC) -- President Trump is citing "tremendous progress" in developing a COVID-19 vaccine. During a White House roundtable with restaurant industry leaders on Monday, Trump noted major gains on Wall Street after Moderna, a Cambridge, Massachusetts biotech company, reported promising Phase One results with an experimental vaccine. Trump has been pushing hard for governors to loosen more stayat-home restrictions.
