Tatum Harborth and Ryanne Hepp Dazzle for Navarro at Schulenburg All-Star Basketball Game

Harborth and Ryanne Hepp took part in the Schulenburg Lace’em Up Girls All-Star Basketball Game on Saturday.

Both student-athletes had stellar games representing Navarro High School. Harborth finished with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Hepp filled up her stat sheet with eight points, seven boards, two steals and one assist. The Runnin’ Lady Panther teammates lead their team to a 46-27 victory.

The game was the fourth postseason all-star contest for Harborth. She participated in the San Antonio Area Coaches Association All Star game which was held on April 23rd in San Antonio. She also took part in two South Texas Coaches Association All-Star Games. Harborth played in both volleyball and basketball South Texas coaches all-star games in Pleasanton on May 20th.

Harborth was an All-District 27-4A First Team selection for

Navarro this past season. She lead the Runnin’ Lady Panthers averaging 19.1 points and 3 steals per game. She also grabbed 5.4 rebounds and dished out 1.7 assists per contest. The senior scored her 2000th career point on January 10th against Wimberley.

Ryanne Hepp was named to the All-District Second Team for the Lady Panthers for the 2022-23 season. She averaged 7.9 points and lead Navarro in rebounds with 6.4 boards per contest. Both Hepp and Harborth were named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association Academic All-State Team.

The Panthers finished third in District 27-4A behind state semifinalist Boerne and state ranked Fredericksburg this past season. Navarro was 31-8 overall, and advanced three playoff rounds for the fourth straight year before falling to Fredericksburg. The Lady Panthers are lead by head coach Darrell Harborth who has been at helm at Navarro for 24 seasons.

Mollenhauer

Pat Mollenhauer was born to Henry and Erna Schneider Mollenhauer on July 23, 1937. in the Comal Town portion of New Braunfels, Texas. He passed from this life on May 24, 2023 in New Braunfels at the age of 85. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Eunice O’Niel, brother-in-law, Kelcy O’Niel, and son-in-law, Robert Markgraf, Jr. Surviving him, are his loving wife, Doris, daughter, Suzanne Markgraf, son, Steven Mollenhauer and wife, Lisa, daughter, Sharon Phillips and husband, Brent; grandchildren, Matthew Markgraf, Melissa Wells and husband Jon, Amanda Dodson and husband, Zachary, Kimberly Mollenhauer, Sara Conley and husband, Nick, and Thomas Phillips; great grandchildren, Liam Wells, Everett Wells, and Madeleine Wells and brother-in-law, Norman Hummel and wife, Dora.

Pat started school at Lamar Elementary and graduated from the New Braunfels High School. As a student, he went to work at the Neu Braunfelser Zeitung learning the printing trade.

He met his bride to be, Doris Hummel, on the dance floor at Echo Hall. They spent 66 years together dancing and traveling. Pat joined the Air Force and he and Doris, together with their children spent 20 years seeing different parts of the world. While in Germany, they were able to meet their German relatives. On one of their return trips to Germany, the German relatives took them to Silesia in Poland. Formerly a part of Germany, it is where their ancestors migrated from. After retirement from the Air Force, Pat became a mail carrier and made new friends with his mail patrons.

As a young boy, Pat enjoyed swimming in the Comal River where he learned how to swim before Schlitterbahn came along. He totally enjoyed fishing whether trot line fishing with his father and brother-in-law in the Guadalupe River or after the children became adults, with his son fishing in the mountain streams of Wyoming and with his son-in-law in the Gulf of Mexico.

After both retired from the work force, they took many trips to the Midwest to go dancing. Both enjoyed dancing and meeting people who had the same love of dancing. They helped start the Goodtime Polka and Waltz Club, Pat serving as the first president.

Volunteering at the Sophienburg Museum was a learning experience about the history of New Braunfels. Scanning old negatives was a task they both looked forward to.

Visitation with family will take place at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home in New Braunfels on Sunday, June 4th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

The Celebration of Life will be held Monday, June 5th, at 10:00 AM at First Protestant Church followed by a reception.

Interment will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, June 6th at 9:45 AM.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to First Protestant Church or to the Eden Hill Benevolence Fund.

Shanafelt

Larry Frank Shanafelt, age 76 of Seguin, passed away on May 26, 2023. Larry was born in Stamford, Texas on February 10, 1947, to Minnie Blanche (Rivers) and Frank Edward Shanafelt.

When Larry was in the 6th grade, the Shanafelt family moved to Wyoming. He graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper in 1965 and then graduated from North West Community College in Powell in 1968. He worked at Motorola for many years and later retired from Wal-Mart.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Allen Shanafelt.

Survivors include his sister, Janice Bowman, and husband Kenny; sister-in-law, Lynne Shanafelt; nieces and nephews, Sally Tolbert and husband Dustin, Rachel Rebolloso and husband Eddie, Caleb Shanafelt and partner Lauren, Gabe Shanafelt, Genevieve Kaiser and husband Matt, and Evie Bowman; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, many cousins, and friends.

A memorial service celebrating Larry’s life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 10:00 am at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Brice Mandaville officiating.

Private interment will be held prior to services at San Geronimo Cemetery.

Walker

Funeral Services for Reevis Walker will be held Saturday, the 10th of June, 11AM at the Greater Refuge Church of our Lord with interment in Sweet Home Cemetery. He will lie in state at Eunice & Lee Mortuary Friday, June 9th from 4 to 6 pm. Reevis died May 30th at the age of 90. He is survived by daughters, Anita Patterson, Sharon Walker, and Terry Showers; and sons, Perry Walker, Michael Walker, and Timothy Walker. Services are entrusted to the reverent care of Eunice & Lee Mortuary.

Rosalynn Carter Diagnosed With Dementia

(Atlanta, GA) -- Former First Lady Rosalynn [[ ROSE-uh-lynn ]] Carter has dementia. The Carter Center made the announcement Tuesday saying “she continues to live happily at home with her husband, enjoying spring in Plains and visits with loved ones.” Former President Jimmy Carter entered hospice care earlier this year. The decision came after he suffered a series of hospitalizations. Jimmy Carter is the longest-lived former president in U.S. history at 98-years-old while Rosalynn is 95.

Ivey Signs Transgender Athletes Limitations Bill

(Montgomery, AL) -- If you are a biological male, you will not be competing in women’s and girls’ sports in Alabama. That’s the word from Governor Kay Ivey, who signed legislation Tuesday on the issue. House Bill 261 limits transgender students from playing sports in public colleges and universities, based on their sex at birth. A bill previously signed by the governor bans biological boys from competing in K-12 girls’ sports.

Air New Zealand Weighing Passengers

(Auckland) -- Air New Zealand has started to weigh passengers before they board some flights out of Auckland International Airport. The airline is using the measurements to figure out an average so they can better balance weight on international flights and calculate fuel consumption. Neither passengers nor employees will see the weights, the numbers will be sent directly and anonymously into a computer.
