Local woman honored as Guadalupe County Woman of Influence

(Seguin) -- The Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce recently recognized the top female leader in Guadalupe County.

Local businesswoman Krista Moreno was named this year's Guadalupe County Woman of Influence. Moreno was introduced by last year's winner of the award Deana Henk, of the Guadalupe Healthcare Network. Henk described all the volunteer work that Moreno does on behalf of this community, which is why she was honored with this award.

“Krista is the epitome of community service. For the past 20 years, she has dedicated countless hours to advocating for the advancement of students and teachers of the greatest Seguin ISD district. She served on the Seguin Education Foundation Board of Directors for 15 years and currently serves as the vice-president of development as well as chair of the Celebration of Excellence Committee. Krista was also the organizer of the Political Action Committees of 2019, 2022 and support of the major bonds needed for the Seguin ISD. community. Among these are the new Matador Football Stadium, A.J.B. Middle School rebuild and numerous improvements throughout the district. She is also on the board for the Communities in Schools of South-Central Texas which provides basis needs and academic assistance to students. In her spare time, she is an active member of the Four Rivers Association of Realtors and is a commissioner on the city of Seguin Planning and Zoning Commission,” said Henk.

Moreno thanked the chamber for the recognition, and said she loves this community. She says she grew up here and loved raising her family here, and that's one of the reasons why she thinks it's so important for people to get involved in the community.

“We are going to have our veteran services officers located in the facility like we had both in Seguin and Schertz right now but then the center has space for partnering agencies to offer new local services that will include professional mental health counseling, claim benefits advising, specialized counseling for combat veterans and overall guidance and direction just to empower veterans and so we do have a handful of partner agencies that are going to be located in the facility along with Guadalupe County Veteran Service Officers,” said Kutscher.

Kutscher says the look and overall design of the building was especially important to county leaders and is proud of those results.

“It’s very very exciting for all of us at the county especially commissioners court members. This is something that everybody has been invested in. Standing there, looking at the building now complete – thinking of the front of the building by working together and I have been blessed to be surrounded and supported by some of the hardest working people in the world and we have done some amazing things for Seguin ISD and our facilities. I believe teachers, staff, and administrators who show up daily to teach and care for our children deserve all our praise and support. Thank you to my family and friends who have helped ride alongside me to make Seguin a great place to live, work and play. I encourage you all to reach out and get involved and become a thread in the fabric that is Seguin. Moreno was recognized during the Texas Women of Influence Gala held Wednesday in the Coliseum. The two-day event, which celebrates and uplifts women, continued on Thursday with its annual conference. The activities included guest speakers and several breakout sessions for attendees.

The chamber also used this year’s event to recognize the Texas Woman of Influence award winner Ruth Hughes. Hughes is the former Texas Secretary of State, who has a strong history of serving the Lone Star State.

Kutscher says he’s excited to show off the building and invites the public to this Wednesday’s opening celebration at 10 a.m.

“All of us at Guadalupe County definitely want to extend an invitation to all veterans and community members in Guadalupe County and surrounding counties to attend our opening celebration. We hope everybody comes out, celebrates a very exciting project with us and ultimately providing the best and most efficient services we can to veterans,” said Kutscher.

The opening celebration will include a guest presentation by 12th Sgt. Major of the Marine Corps, Gene Overstreet. Tours and refreshments will follow.
