(Seguin) -- The Guadalupe County Elections Office will soon move into its new and improved home on State Highway 123 North.
The county first purchased the land and building in 2022. The building located at 3251 State Highway 123 North originally served as the former USDA offices.
The building has been under construction and renovation by
the Koehler Company and Level 5 Architecture.
Justin Gilmore, of Level 5 Architecture, provided an update during a recent meeting of the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court.
“A quick overview of the layout of the site itself --- the yellow building itself is the existing -- what we call the USDA building many moons ago. That’s the building that we are currently
remodeling -- the interior space and then putting a new skin on the exterior of the building. The red building just to the north of that is the new warehouse building which will be primarily just storage for elections equipment and then everything in the blue is all new paving that we are actually putting down for the new what we call our private and secure parking lot. That will be an entire fenced parking lot for
staff and personnel associated with this facility and then, of course, the existing parking lot off to the left there is going to remain as it is,” said Gilmore.
Much of the work right now is being concentrated on the construction of a new warehouse.
Gilmore says a punch list for all other projects is either near completion or ready to go.

(Seguin) -- A local man is facing federal drug charges after his arrest last week.
Authorities say they have apprehended a man accused of being a significant meth dealer, who was living in Seguin.
Over the past several months, officers with the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Bureau say a collaborative federal narcotics investigation revealed a suspect operating a multi-county drug trafficking organization, including operations in Guadalupe and Comal counties.
The investigation was made possible thanks to a collaboration with the DEA Office in San Antonio, the sheriff’s office, and the Seguin and New Braunfels police departments.
On Thursday, at the direction of GCSO Narcotics
Investigators, Seguin PD uniformed officers initiated a traffic stop on a truck owned and operated by the suspect identified as James Stokely.
Stokely evaded the stop and was pursued by multiple law enforcement agencies.
They say the pursuit eventually ended, and Stokely was apprehended in the 5000 block of State Highway 123 North.
Following the arrest, Investigators from GCSO and Seguin PD searched Stokely’s residence in the 1000 block of East College Street.
They say during that search, approximately 1,500 grams of methamphetamine was discovered, along with an undetermined amount of cash and a stolen firearm. Stokely faces federal charges of Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance.
(New Braunfels) -- A 12-yearold boy remains in critical condition after nearly drowning in neighboring New Braunfels.
Officials say on Friday at approximately 3:40pm, the New Braunfels Fire Department and New Braunfels Police Department were called to the 500 block of Peace Avenue at Cypress Bend Park for reports of a possible drowning.
New Braunfels Park Rangers were the first to arrive and found that a 12-year-old male from San Antonio had been in the river with family when he had gone under the surface of the water for an unknown amount of time.
Park Rangers immediately began lifesaving measures until the first responders took over those efforts when they arrived at
the scene.
The 12-year-old victim was transported by ground EMS to Resolute Hospital, where he was stabilized and then transported by helicopter to a San Antonio-area hospital in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation indicates no sign of foul play. They also say alcohol was not a factor.
Office, continued.
“The bottom middle, you will see the new warehouse building that is currently being erected if you drive by right now. They are currently working on that so that is really exciting to see that. The concrete foundation has been poured, and the middle building is currently being erected. Other than that, really, the primary work that is happening right now is all on site with all of the concrete, curb and gutters being installed – all of the paving coming in fresh after that. The site utilities have all been laid, all of the conduit has been trenched, and they are also currently working on the sanitary sewer line extension that we had to do to tap into the new sanitary mains for the city of Seguin,” said Gilmore.
Gilmore says he is thankful that the project has remained on schedule and looks forward to being able to turn over the building to staff in June.
“Actual construction started on this project Oct. 15, 2024. As of today, they are 69 percent of the way through with construction completion with an estimated May 20th construction completion.
Now after May 20th, we still have some work to do to come in and
(Seguin) -- The community is mourning the loss of a man, who is known for dedicating his life to the preservation of the arts and the Mexican American heritage in Seguin.

De La Rosa is not only known for his work with Teatro, but also for his years serving as a mentor to young men throughout the community.

what we do from a punch list with our fine tooth comb and our blue tape everywhere – we come through there and do our final inspection on that and give the contractor some time and ability after that to complete those little punch list items and then we are ready to move into this facility. Inside the existing building, the 82 percent is being shown right there. I think they are a little bit ahead of that. They are really doing trim out. All the tile work has been done in the bathrooms. Plumbing fixtures are being set so making great progress on that and then the storage facility itself. That’s the last piece that will be completed on this project with an estimated completion date of May 20th,” said Gilmore.
For years, the current elections
office has operated at its current site at 215 S. Milam Street.
Although the current elections office is located just a couple of blocks away from the Guadalupe County Courthouse, County Judge Kyle Kutscher at the time of the purchase stated that he believed it was a very responsible move. The 7,800 square foot facility that sits on three acres was purchased for $2.15 million.
County officials the demands of a growing county called for the larger space not only for employees but for voters.
The relocation of the elections office to this space is also expected to enhance voter participation with what officials say is a prime location just north of intersection of Interstate 10 and State Highway 123 Bypass.
(Marion) -- The Marion Bulldogs saw their 45-game district win streak come to an end with a 10-8 loss in nine innings to Jourdanton on Friday night at Marion High School.
The Bulldogs battled back from a 5-1 deficit to tie the game at 5 in the bottom of the fifth. Jourdanton would take leads in the 6th and 8th innings and Marion would again respond each time by evening the score, but the Bulldogs were unable to extend the game in the bottom of the ninth after the Indians scored two runs in the top of the frame following a 30-minute delay due to the lights going out at the ballpark.
Marion is 0-1 in District 273A after suffering their first district loss since the 2019 season. Bulldog
head coach Tim Tesch, who is one win away from 200 in his career at Marion High School, says the end of the streak was somewhat of a relief for his team.
“We’re just blessed with a lot of great baseball players and (the streak) is unbelievable when you think about it. I’m glad the monkey’s off our back so we don’t have to mess with it anymore. So, we’ll start a new streak and try to get back on the horse.”
Mateo Zuniga, Jack Wells, Kade Pape and Huck Schoenvogel each had two hits in the game for Marion. The Bulldogs will host the No. 9 team in Class 5A when they host the New Braunfels Unicorns today. First pitch is set for 12:30 p.m. this afternoon at Marion High School.

and before late-night games. The grandchildren shared many memories of playing spades, Uno and board games, playing with the army men, and having meals around the dining room table together. Those were some of their most cherished memories. She was always sure to have whatever her grandkids liked on hand so that everyone felt special. Whether it was their favorite games, toys or their favorite meals, everyone who was with her knew that they were the center of attention. They enjoyed playing out at the farmhouse feeding Tubby, a pony on the farm, sugar cubes and apples. While the animals were never allowed in the house, she always found a way to sneak them a snack and give them a little pat. Alongside those memories, her granddaughters speak about all of the ways she impacted them through her poise and caring heart, whether she was teaching them how to be proper ladies at the dinner table or teaching them how to embroider cup towels.

Angela Katherine Jandt, of Seguin, also known as mother, Gela, Nan, Grandma, Great Nan, and aunt passed away at the ripe old age of 102 on March 4, 2025. Angela was born on April 26, 1922, in Selma, TX to Frank and Elizabeth (Riedel) Fey. She was the ninth child, out of twelve, and the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her mother passed away when she was 10 and her father remarried 3 ½ years later to Erna (Lieck) Real. She grew up on the family farm, attended grade school in Selma, TX, was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and served for many years in Saint Ann’s Circle at St. James Catholic Church in Seguin. Her first job was at Randolph Field, TX as a live-in maid for a USAF 2nd Lt and his wife. Oh, the stories she would tell, although they cannot be repeated here. She later began working at Grandma Cookie Co, San Antonio, TX. She met the love of her life at Luxello Dance Hall near Selma, TX and they married in September 1947.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence O. Jandt, TSgt, USAF (Ret), her parents, stepmother, daughter Shirley and husband Allen Ott, brothers: Hugo, Robert, Joseph, Erhart, Oswald, Gilbert, and Raymond and sisters: Laurie, Annie, Elvira, and Lillie.

Mary Louise Still Donegan, age 87 of Seguin, passed peacefully to glory, joining her beloved husband, Benton Donegan. She left this world on March 8, 2025, the 14th anniversary of his death. Mary Louise was born on August 14, 1937, in Ft. Worth, Texas, to James Oscar Still and Mabel Florence Perry Still. She was the oldest of four girls, including Patricia Ann Still Lowe, Ina Elizabeth “Betty” Still Brown, and Carol Lee Still Powell. Her family moved to Houston in the summer of 1943 when her father entered WWII. Mary Louise attended public schools in Houston and graduated from Milby High School in 1955 and then Rice Institute, now Rice University, in Houston in 1959.
Mary Louise worked part time throughout high school and college. She participated in several clubs and on the swim team in high school.
Upon graduation from Rice, Mary Louise went to work for the Social Security Administration as a Claims Representative in Houston, was promoted to Field Representative, and transferred to San Antonio in 1961. She met her future husband, Benton Donegan, at a Social Security presentation she made for the Kiwanis Club in Seguin. She was again promoted but soon resigned to marry Benton on September 21, 1963, after which she moved to Seguin. She was a devoted wife and mother, always volunteering at the children’s schools as room mother, classroom helper, PTA member, and volunteer with various booster clubs. She was a committed volunteer at her church, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. She taught Sunday school, served on the vestry several times, including as the first female Senior Warden, and spent many hours working on the Altar Guild and in many other roles and on numerous committees. In
Alaska, England, and several bases throughout the United States. She enjoyed her visits to Hawaii and Germany in the 80’s while visiting her son and family. Germany was her favorite; she was fluent in German and had a wonderful time talking with the locals she had the pleasure of meeting. She thoroughly enjoyed life and was a great cook, but baking was always a “favorite passion” of hers. She had a keen sense of humor and was quick to joke with those around her. She was always surrounded by laughter and is now surrounded with her husband and all of those who preceded her in death.
When she was around 95, she heard on TV that some woman drank a shot of whiskey every day and that is why she had lived so long. So, she decided to try it. Mind you, this coming from a woman who never drank whiskey and never drank much alcohol in her life except an occasional beer or wine. So, her doctor gave the nursing home a prescription to have a daily shot. This became the joke of the nursing home about her and her whiskey. Mind you, it was a good thing, and she did not really like how whiskey tasted, but she always said it was good for her pain. What pain? She only talked about pain when she talked about whiskey!

the community, she was a longtime volunteer at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center and the Christian Cupboard and served on the Board of Directors for the Seguin Public Library Foundation and the Guadalupe County Republican Women.
The most treasured part of Mary Louise’s life was her family, both by birth and by marriage, and most of all, her children and grandchildren. She also found joy in her many dear friends. The last chapter of her life was very blessed by the care of many loving “angels” including Cynthia Reneau and Adrianne House.
Mary Louise Donegan is survived by her sisters, Patty Lowe, Betty Brown, and Carol Powell and husband David, along with her sisters-in-law, Patricia Donegan Custer and Geri Donegan. She was a selfless mother and grandmother, to whom her children and grandchildren are forever grateful. They are Kelly Donegan Follis and children Elizabeth Ann Follis and William James Follis; Tracy Donegan Donley, husband John Donley, and children Nathaniel Benton Aubin and wife Katelyn, and Emily Ann Aubin; and James Benton Donegan and husband Marc Tuminelli. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed and always loved by all those who were blessed to know her.

(Lubbock, TX) -- A number of newborn babies have been exposed to measles at a Texas hospital. Health officials say a woman who gave birth in a Lubbock hospital didn’t realize she was infected with the disease when she was admitted. Parents, babies, and staff members were all exposed. The number of cases in the U.S. has skyrocketed past three-hundred, as the initial outbreak in West Texas has spread to several other states, including New Mexico and Oklahoma.
(Washington, DC) -- The Food and Drug Administration is issuing its recommendations for which flu shots to use this year. Thursday’s decision came without input from a panel of independent vaccine advisers after a Februrary meeting was cancelled without explanation. The FDA did however use its own experts working with the Centers for Disease Control and the Department of Defense to review data from around the world about the type of flu viruses currently circulating. The most recent flu season, which peaked in February, was the worst in more than a decade.
(New York, NY) -- Harvard researchers are suing the Trump administration. Two Harvard medical school professors filed the lawsuit Thursday after their research was pulled from a government website because it referred to the LGBT community. They also claim the administration illegally and dangerously suppressed their information on how to improve patient diagnoses.
(Chesterfield Court House, VA) -- A new procedure may offer those with Stage Four abdominal cancer a better quality of life. It’s called Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy and involves removing visible tumors and then heating chemotherapy drugs and administering them directly into the abdominal cavity through a catheter for a few hours. Surgical oncologists at the University of Virginia are excited that they can now offer it, saying it reduces therapy time and side effects and is usually covered by medical insurance.
