The report of the last 12 hours submitted by the Institute of Geophysics of the Polytechnic University indicated that the volcanic activity has remained similar to that of the last past days. The atmospheric conditions near the volcano have not permitted the experts to carry out observations of surface activity, however, instrumentally evaporative emissions that could contain ash have been recorded, with no reports indicating affectation in zones nearby. Yesterday, the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion visited Latacunga to train the administrative staff of shelters on prevention measures in case of an eventual emergency and they also evaluated the following educational facilities that have been adapted as temporal shelters: The School of Abdón Calderón and The National High School in the parish of Aláquez, and the School of Cornel Germánico Rivadeneira in the parish of San Juan de Pastocalle. These shelters are part of the 96 that are located in safe zones and have been previously approved by the Secretary of Risk Management. Continuing to impart preventive measures and working in a coordinated manner with the social sector, in the community of Loreto—within the district of Mejía, the Technical Secretary for Inclusive Management of Disabilities alongside the Ecuadorian Red Cross, the Ministry of Public Health, and the Secretary of Risk Management gave out emergency/volcano preparedness kits and spoke to people with disabilities to give them recommendations on ways to reduce the risk of disasters.
