COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 23 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University has informed that there are currently continuous emissions of gases, which have been registered since yesterday late afternoon and evening. These emissions have reached 600 meters of height over the crater and are heading towards the Northwest side of the volcano; consequently, causing ash falls in the sectors of: Chaupi, Lasso, Mulal贸 and Pastocalle. We continue to monitor the volcano 24/7, which provides continuous up-to-date information on the current volcanic activity; therefore, it is important that the population remains alert to official statements on the current situation. Recommended Safety Measures In case of ash fall we recommend you cover your nose and mouth with a clinical mask and cover your skin and eyes appropriately. We also remind you not to use water to clean up volcanic ashes and instead you should collect and place them in plastic trash bags. Please remember that pregnant women, elderly persons, minors, and persons with respiratory problems should NOT perform these cleanup activities.
