COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 025 The Geophysics Institute of The Polytechnic University reports that during yesterday late afternoon and evening they were unable to observe surface activity of the volcano, however, through satellite images, continuous gas and ash emissions were detected. These emissions headed toward the Northwest side of the volcano. Until now, the atmosphere near the volcano remains clear and there is the presence of slight gas emissions near the crater. We continue to monitor the volcano 24/7, which provides continuous up-to-date information on the current volcanic activity; therefore, it is important that the population remains alert to official statements on the current situation. Recommendations In case of ash fall, you must cover your nose and mouth with a clinical mask and cover your eyes and skin appropriately. Precaution When removing the ash do not use water, instead place the ash in a plastic trash bag—separately from regular trash. We remind you that this type of cleaning should not be performed by pregnant women, older adults, minors and any person with acute respiratory illnesses. If you wish to see live images of the volcano, please visit www.volcancotopaxi.com. We also remind you that you can access information on the current situation by visiting www.seguridad.gob.ec or accessing our social networks @Seguridad_Ec and https://www.facebook.com/SeguridadEcuador
