COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 033
The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University reported that the internal activity of the Cotopaxi volcano remains high while the external activity remains moderate. During yesterday evening and today’s early morning hours continuous emissions of vapors accompanied by ash were observed. In addition, during these hours satellite images indicated the formation of an ash cloud heading towards the West – Northwest side of the volcano. Due to the wind, ash falls were registered over the city center of Machachi and the sector of El Chaupi, in Pichincha, and in some zones of the canton of Rumiñahui. According to reports by the National Police ash falls were registered today in Tambillo, Machachi and El Chaupi. Meanwhile in Cotopaxi, ash falls have not been registered in the towns nearby the volcano. Recommendations Remember that volcanic ash particles can damages your corneas, for this reason, avoid rubbing your eyes and clean them appropriately or use a serum. If you use contact lenses, please take them out while you are in outside areas and use protective goggles similar to swimming goggles.
