COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 035 Through a radio report submitted by the Monitoring Unit of the Secretariat of Risk Management the Geophysics Institute informed that the Cotopaxi Volcano maintains the same levels of internal activity as previous days. This morning the zone near the volcano has remained cloudy, however, through satellite images it was observed that yesterday evening and in the early morning a cloud of emissions headed West and Northwest side of the volcano. Notwithstanding, experts were unable to determine its reach nor its ash content. Through the cameras of the Integrated Security Service ECU 911 the National Police were able to report ash falls over the sectors of El Chaupi, Aloasi, and Machachi; ash falls were not registered over the canton of Rumiñahui. Yesterday evening the Secretariat of Risk Management in coordination with the Head of the Parish of Pastocalle, canton of Latacunga, performed a drill with the participation of 600 people in the neighborhood of El Progreso Between the 20th and 30th of August, in the parishes of Mulaló, Pastocalle, Once de Noviembre, Toacaso y La Matriz, the Ministry of Agriculture provided 259 tons of cattle food to 2,157 people—who own 11,176 animals. In addition, their experts provided veterinary care for 1,084 animals, including 315 cattle who received treatment. They also trained 2,174 people on animal care and the elaboration of silos (grain storage).
