COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 107 According to the report of the Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University, in the last 12 hours, the internal activity of the Cotopaxi was moderate while its external was low. During the night and early morning hours, through a thermal camera, emissions of gas heading westward were observed. Currently, the volcano remains overcast. No lahars, rain, or ash falls have been registered. Seismic activity remains similar to past days. Movement of fluids (gases) and magma have been registered in the interior of the volcano. There is a continuous signal that indicates the exit of gases, which reach up to the crater (tremor of low amplitude). These manifestations are within the characteristics of yellow alert. Actions Carried Out Cotopaxi In the parish of Pastocalle (canton of Latacunga) 20 community brigadiers, residing in risk zones, received first aid training by the Red Cross. This activity was coordinated by the Secretariat of Risk Management and the Provincial Council of Emergency Operations. Pichincha Residents of the sector of San Antonio (parish of Rumipamba—Rumiùahui) received an informative talk about safety measures against a possible volcanic eruption.
