COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 116 The last report submitted by the Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University indicates that the Cotopaxi volcano continues with a moderate level of internal and external activity. Throughout the day, the volcano remained overcast; however, continuous emissions of gas and vapor—with low to moderate ash content—were observed. These emissions reached 2500 meters over the crater. Currently, the volcano is clear and an emission of gas and vapor was observed. This emission reached 1000 meters over the crater and headed westward. During early morning hours, rain falls were registered in various sectors nearby the volcano. The seismic activity remains similar to past days, which indicated the movement of magma and fluids in the interior of the volcano. The tremors have increases and are in accordance with the exit of gases through the crater. Recommendation If you have pets keep them inside your house and do not let them run round freely. Make sure water and food have not been exposed to ash and change the water frequently.
