COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 117 Based on a report submitted by the Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University the Ministry of Security Coordination informs that in the last 12 hours the Cotopaxi volcano maintained a moderate level of internal and external activity. Yesterday afternoon and evening the volcano was partially overcast and emissions of gas and water vapor, with low ash content, were observed. These emissions reached up 1,000 meters over the crater and headed westward. During the night and early morning hours, through a thermal camera, various emissions were observed. These emissions reached up to 500 meters over the crater and headed westward. Currently, the Cotopaxi remains overcast and no rains were registered in the sector. The seismic activity remains similar to past days. Movements of fluids (gases) and magma have been registered in the interior of the volcano. Episodes of tremors, that are externally visible, have also been registered. Recommendations Remember that ash contains chemical elements that could affect your health. We advise you consume boiled or treated water and cover it at all times.
