COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 121 Based on the daily report of the Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University, the Ministry of Security Coordination informs that in last 12 hours the Cotopaxi volcano maintained a moderate level of internal and external activity. In the evening and early morning hours the volcano remained overcast. However, in the morning hours and through thermal cameras, emissions of gas and vapor—heading westward—were observed. Moderate rain fall was present in the flanks of the volcano, no lahars were generated. Seismic activity is similar to past days: indicating movement of magma and fluid in the interior of the volcano and the tremors are characterized by various minutes of duration. Recommendations Participate in the activities (talks, simulations, and drills) organized by the authorized institutions. Remember to know the risks maps of your community as these help you understand the threats and dangers in your community, thus allowing you to take preventive actions. Risk maps are an informative tool to identify safe zones, evacuation routes, and shelters.
