COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 47 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University reports that the Cotopaxi Volcano remains with a high level of internal activity and a moderate level of external activity. Through Satellite Images, yesterday evening and today early morning, it was observed that emissions headed westward (El Chasqui and Lasso in Cotopaxi). Rains have not been reported in the sectors nearby the volcano. Actions Carried Out Yesterday evening evacuation drills were performed in various sectors of the canton of Latacuanga. At 8 p.m. 80 residents of the sector westward of the Rio Blanco Alto in the parish of Tanicuchi of the canton of Latacuga participated in an evacuation drill in the safe zones. 250 people from the neighborhood of Patria and San Luis of Yacunpingo of the parish of Pastocalle also performed a similar drill. These activities were organized by the Secretariat of Risk Management alongside the Governance of Cotopaxi and were taken place after training sessions on preventive measures were provided to residents of these zones. Recommendations Remember not to move the white flags placed by the Technical Secretariat of Disabilities. These flags will permit the identification of the households with one or more people with disabilities in case of an evacuation.
