COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 51 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University reports that the Cotopaxi volcano continues to maintain a high level of internal activity and a moderate level of external activity. In the last 12 hours there was a persistent signal of tremors. In the morning, it was possible to observe emissions of steam, gas, and volcanic dust heading West and Northwest of the volcano with a reach of 200 meters over the crater. Yesterday evening through satellite images you could appreciate an ash cloud which headed the same direction. No rain falls have been registered over nearby zones. Actions Carried Out The Secretariat of Risk Management continues to provide training sessions and perform drills in order to instill preventive measures against a possibly violent volcanic eruption. Last night, the Secretariat provided training sessions to residents of the neighborhood of Sindicato de Choferes of the parish of Ignacio Flores in Latacunga. In the same canton they also performed a drill in the housing complex Alegría in the sector of San Buenaventura. From 8 p.m., in Pichincha in the district of Los Chillos in the canton of Rumiñahui an evacuation drill was performed in Alangasí 2 and Play Chica 1 and 2. In addition in the Municipality of Rumiñahui a number of preventive talks with the community took place in order to enhance the preparation efforts for the execution of family emergency and contingency plans.
