COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 55 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University reports that the Cotopaxi volcano continues in its state of eruption with a high level of internal activity and a low level of external activity. In the morning, a column of gas and water vapor with a low load of ash which reached 500 meters above the crater was observed. No rains or lahars were registered in the nearby zones. Actions Carried Out With the objective of promoting training efforts on preventive measures due to the volcanic activity of the Cotopaxi the Decentralized Autonomous Governments continue to carry out the educational process. For this reason, 20 employees of the International Cotopaxi Airport were trained on family emergency plans and residents of the neighborhood of San Pedro de Teneria (parish of Pastocalle) were trained by the head of the parish in safety measures. These actions, which are carried out through the evening, are also carried out in the Province of Pichincha. Here, residents of the sector of San Sebatiån, of Club Los Cerros (Selva Alegra), and officials and employees of the Internal Revenue Service (in the River Shopping Center) participated in training sessions on preventive measures against an eventual violent volcanic eruption. The Ministry of Transport and Public Works continue to work on the extension of the road from the sector of La Libertad until Pastocalle.
