COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 56 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University reported that in the last 12 hours the Cotopaxi volcano maintained a high level of internal activity and a low level of external activity, during this period there was the presence of gas and vapor emissions with a low ash load heading West and Southwest of the volcano. These emissions reached up 15000 meters above the crater. No rain or ash falls were registered over nearby zones. Actions Carried Out The Ministry of Social and Economic Inclusion gave out maps detailing the location of shelters to fathers and mothers of the Child´s Center of Latacunga (Take a look at the images) 160 constructions workers (currently working on the Latacunga Hospital) participated in a drill to evaluate the time frame it would take to evacuate. The Secretariat of Risk Management held a meeting with community leaders of 12 neighborhoods of the parish of Mulaló (canton of Latacunga) to strengthen their alert systems in case of an eventual volcanic eruption. Here too, the Secretariat provided training sessions on safety measures to residents of the following neighborhoods: Laigua Centro, Aranjuez, Nueva Vida, Cazola y Estrella de la Mañana.
