COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 57 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University reports that the Cotopaxi volcano presents a moderate level of internal activity and a low level of superficial activity. During late evening the volcano remained covered by clouds, however, eventually emissions heading westward were observed. At the moment, the volcano presents a gas column accompanied with a low ash load reaching less than 200 meters above the crater with a westward direction. No rain or ash falls have been registered over nearby zones. Actions Carried Out In the canton of Latacunga evacuation drills continue. Yesterday, around 7 p.m., the Secretariat of Risk Management and the Governorship of Cotopaxi carried out a drill with the participation of 300 people from the neighborhoods o Estrella Pamba, Argentina, Lasso Norte and Lasso Centro. Another drill took place in the sector of La Armenia in the Valle de Los Chillos (Province of Pichincha) with participation of the local police.
