COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 58 The Cotopaxi volcano continues in its state of eruption. The level of internal activity is moderate and it is characterized by the presence of tremors, meanwhile there is a low level of external activity with the presence of emissions of gas and steam with a low ash load. These emissions reached up to 1500 meters over the crater and headed to the Southwest and Northwest of the volcano. The Geophysics Institute reported slight ash falls over Machachi y el Chaupi (Pichincha) and in El Chasqui and Lasso (Cotopaxi). Actions Carried Out This afternoon, the Political Directorship of the canton of Salcedo coordinated an evacuation drill, with the participation of 100+ people, in the neighborhoods of La Argentina Alta / Baja, La Dolorosa, Rivotorto and Nagsiche, which are located in risks zones. A training session on preventive measures was carried out in coordination with the Head of the Parish of La Victioria (canton of Pujilí) and the National Police in the community of Collantes Chucustisi ( 50 people attended this training). The Ministry of Public Health, through their section of risk management, instructed technical staff (42) on primary health care, so they can subsequently provide training sessions to the residents of Salcedo, Saquisilí and Pujilí (Cotopaxi). Personnel of the Center of Public Health of Salcedo gave out information on preventive measures against an eventual violent volcanic eruption to 30 people of the comunity of Cusubamba. Finally, the Ecuadorian Red Cross provided training on first aid to 30 brigadiers of the neighborhoods of San Francisco de El Chasqui, San Joaquín, Santa Rita, Boliche, Cuilche, Salas and Progreso (Latacunga).
