COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 61 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University reports that the Cotopaxi volcano continues in its state of eruption, with a moderate level of internal activity and low level of external activity. The seismic events continue with a slight signal of tremors accompanied by emissions of steam and gas with a low ash load. These emissions headed westward reaching up to 200 meters above the crater. No rain has fallen over the sector and the ash in the environment is due to the falls of previous days more than the actual ash falls occurring at this moment. In this sense, we advise that the wind could stir up the ash from previous days into the air. Actions Carried Out Today a drill will be carried out in the parish of Panzaleo in the canton of Salcedo. The participants in this drill will be the people residing in risks zones of the parish center (La Delicia y Tigualo). This activity is being organized by the Governorship of Cotopaxi in coordination with the Decentralized Autonomous Government. Recommendations When cleaning up ash avoid using a broom with lateral hairs to clean up corridors and floors as this type of broom allows the particles of ash to return the air. You should also avoid using ventilators o electric dryers. The yellow alert continues to be in place and has not changed.
