COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 64 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University reports that the Cotopaxi volcano remains in its eruptive state with a moderate level of internal activity and a low level of external activity. During this morning, emissions of vapor and gas with a low ash content continued. At 1 p.m. an emission related to a momentary increase of tremors was registered. This emission reached 1,500 meters above the crater and headed westward. No rain falls were registered over the sector and only slight ash falls occurred, heading westward and Southwest of the volcano due to the wind. Actions Carried Out The Ministry of Security Coordination categorically rejects malicious rumors regarding any change of alert due to the volcanic activity of the Cotopaxi, thus we inform that the yellow alert continues to be in place and we clear up that the cloud of smoke you see in Quito is due to fires in the capital. From 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. the National Transit Agency and authorities of the Province of Cotopaxi participated in a meeting of the Technical Working Group # 5 of the Provincial Council of Emergency Operations. In this meeting carriers were trained on contingency plans. In the sectors of Patao de Vacas y San José de Barba (canton of Pujilí) the Team of Integral Attention to Health of the Ministry of Public Health carried out talks to 20 residents of the area on preventive measures. In addition, representatives of the Governorship detailed about contingency plans to citizens and local workers of the sector of San Rafael. Volunteers of the Ministry of Social and Economic Inclusion provided training sessions on care measures to families who take care of family members with disabilities (in Mulaó and Latacunga). During this activity the volunteers also informed families on emergency situations and disasters, as well as processes of evacuation and opportune attention. This activity was informed promptly door to door throughout the parish. In the canton of Rumiñahui in the Province of Pichincha representatives of public transports and traders from the markets of the center of Sangolqui also received talks on safety measures.
