COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 66 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University reports that in the last 12 hours the Cotopaxi volcano had a moderate level of internal activity and a low level of external activity. The seismic activity remains similar to past days. During the morning, there was emissions with moderate volumes of gas and vapor and low ash content, which reached up to 1,000 meters over the crater and headed Northwest of the volcano. In the afternoon, the atmosphere surrounding the volcano remained cloudy, however, columns of gas and vapor with a moderate load of volcanic material were observed (reaching up 1500 meters above the crater). No rain or ash falls were reported in the sector Actions Carried Out In the Provincial Capital the Governorship of Cotopaxi inaugurated a citizen fair in the Plaza El Salto. This fair had the participation of the Health Districts of the province: Pujilí, Saquisilí, Salcedo and Latacunga. Here, medical personnel taught classes on first aid and preventive measures. In addition, in the neighborhood of Barracas (parish of Mulaó) safety measure guides, risks maps, and volcanic kits (googles, scarf and masks) were distributed. In the canton of Rumiñahui, the Municipal government alongside personnel of the Secretariat of Risk Management offered preventive talks to the traders of fairs working in risk zones. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries produced 294 bales of hay, weighing 380 kilograms each, to be delivered in the coming days to small producers affected by ash fall in the canton of Mejia. In the same canton, the Ministry of Economic and Social Inclusion distributed water and scarves to prevent health issues of the children assisting the Child’s Center of “Buen Vivir”
