COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 71 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University reports that during the last 12 hours the Cotopaxi Volcano maintains a moderate level of internal activity and low level of external activity. At this moment the atmosphere surrounding the volcano remains clear. An emission of vapor that reached more than 1000 meters over the crater, but with a low ash content, was registered heading westward. The seismic activity continues in the same parameters as past days. The Geophysics informs that there is a possibility of an increase in the emissions of gases and ash, however, until this moment no rain or ash falls have been registered over the nearby zones. Actions Carried Out Actions to guaranteed effective communication between the risks zones and the support organisms have increased. This Saturday 19 of September it has been programmed that the Minister of Security Coordination, César Navas, will give out communication equipment (5) to the neighborhood of Rumipamba, located in Los Chillos.
