COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 77 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University reports that during the last 12 hours the Cotopaxi Volcano maintained a moderate level of internal activity and low level of external activity. This morning an emission of vapor and gas with moderate ash content was registered. The emission reached 1500 meters above the crater and headed westward. No rain or ash falls were registered over the zones nearby. Actions Carried Out Various Institutions provided training sessions and drills to evaluate the response capacity of the citizens in case of a possible emergency during the night or early morning hours. In Cotopaxi: In Latacunga after 8 p.m. officials of the responsible entities performed an evacuation drill in the family residences of the National Air Forces (50 families participated). This drill had the objective to determined the time it would take to transfer to the High School of Vicente Le贸n, which a safe zone.
