COTOPAXI VOLCANO PRESS RELEASE 84 The Geophysics Institute of the Polytechnic University informs that during the last 12 hours the internal activity of the Cotopaxi was moderate and had a low level of external activity. In the afternoon, emissions of gas and vapor were observed. These emissions had low ash content, reached 300 meters over the crater, and headed westward. Seismic activity continues in the interior of the volcano. Movement of fluids (gases) and magma are present. No rain falls nearby zones were registered. Activities Carried Out Cotopaxi: Joseguango Bajo receives communication equipment. In the rural parish of Joseguango Bajo, of the canton of Latacunga, the Integrated Security Service ECU911 gave out 25 communication radios. The presidents of the various communities (Churopinto , El Caspi, Colcas, San Agustín de Callo, Ticatilin ,San Ramón, Rumipamba de Villacís, Rumipamba San Isidro, Callo Mancheno, San Antonio, Limache, Rumipamba de Espinoza, San Francisco de Espinoza, San Francisco de Joseguango, Agua Clara Parcelas, Agua Clara Cutuchi, Tandaliví, Laigua de Maldonado, Laigua de Bellavista and Chillos) received this equipment. These communities are vulnerable zones in case of a violent eruption. Residents of Pujilí received constant talks This morning, in the Health Center of this canton, training sessions were provided on safety measures in case of increase volcanic activity. Here they talked about how to stock water, avoid exposure to ash, the protection children and adolescents. This center provided care to approximately 8,000 residents. With the objective to protect over 70,000 citizens, the authorities of Salcedo identified the sectors of possible affectation in case of an emergency. Food for Cattle in Pastocalle and Mulaló In the sectors of El Boliche (parish of Pastocalle) and San Bartolomé (parish of Mulaló) the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries gave out 14 tons of food provisions to 570 animals, which benefits 160 cattle farmers. Recommendations Remember to have a first aid kit with saline, alcohol, cotton, bands, band aids, sticking plaster, and medicines. In addition, have canned food, a radio, batteries, flashlights, lighter, candles. In case you have a pet do not forget to have its collar or cage.
